Who Hates the USA?
Biblio Bibuli replied to PocketRocket's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Looks like someone has obliged you: http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/index.p...wtopic=5360&hl= But since the only option that he gives us is "Like the USA" and not "Love the USA", I will NOT be participating in voting! -
Gee, I wish I could agree. I drink lots of expensive liquor .... http://www.pilsner-urquell.cz/cs/ ... and it's cutting into my expenses. That's why I don't drink while driving. Might spill some.

Vander Zalm speaks out against outsourcing
Biblio Bibuli replied to idealisttotheend's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I bought a great big Saguaro cactus from Bill Vander Zalm. Circa 1980. Not as big & tall as they grow in Arizona though, only about 4 feet tall. It's over 10 now. Ready to hit the ceiling. Didn't like the price when I was purchasing it ($50) so I took off the tag, then made Bill guess the price. He said about $30, but called over Lillian, just to make sure. She guessed corrrectly but he said "I already promised" and let me have it for thirty bucks. Try it sometimes, it works, especially on one of a kind items. You're welcome! -
Over George's & Vladimir's dead bodies!!

I wonder if these "nice" Muslims would be as nice if they had as many WMDs as Russia, the USA or China? You know, I think there IS a God.

Value of a Fetus. Time to overturn Roe v. Wade?
Biblio Bibuli replied to I miss Reagan's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
As my dear old dad used to tell me: "Life isn't fair. Get used to it." Hmm ... the least you could do is to marry one of them. -
Wasn't it Mark Steyn who said: "The voice of reason is seldom as strident as that of anger or intolerance." If he didn't he should have.
-
Mark Steyn wrote: "Muslim men jumping up and down and threatening death followed by commentators patiently explaining that the "vast majority" of Muslims are, of course, impeccably "moderate." So what? There were millions of "moderate" Germans in the 1930s, and a fat lot of good they did us or them." Black Dog's assignment: Write 500 times on the blackboard what Steyn said above. After that, READ what you have written, ALOUD, 500 times. Try very hard to understand what you have written & read. Try harder. Then report back here and tell us whether you still think that Steyn doesn't believe there are millions of moderate Muslims.
-
First, thanks to BB, I see Steyn never said there was such a thing as "peaceful, rational muslims". The full quote: is: I'm not sure where you concoted the rest of the quote from. Don't thank me... it was you who left out the end (I added it btw) so you could accuse Jerry of concocting things. Otherwise, whether one says "Peaceful, rational Muslims" or "Impeccably moderate Muslims" ... I see no difference. Jerry whipped you good! Why is it that lefties never admit they've been beat when they get caught with their pants down and talking out of their asses? I remember when the renaiming of Mt. Logan in honor of Jean Chretien fell through, Mark Steyn offered to rename his butt after da man. The only reason he changed his mind was because he realised that his friends would then be saying ... "Steyn is talking out of his Chretien again." Rightwingers have style! ... They have confidence! ... They have chutzpah! ........ which reminds me ... was Argus banned yet?

Ah so the implication here is that there are no "peaceful, rational Muslims" (that is, Muslims everybody at work can agree on). I'm interested though: how much digging has Steyn done? Is he trying to bring a greater diversity of voices to the op-ed page? I've a gut feeling Steyn isn't looking for thoughtful commentators coming forward to explain the true spiritual meaning of the term jihad (they are out there, and not hard to find). He's looking for voices to confirm what he's telling us (that Muslims are nutjobs that want to destroy us all). That isn't an argument: it's wishful thinking. (Strangely, he asks, "But surely it's worth asking why in 2006 the Washington Post needs a man with a name like 'Ronald Stockton' to explain Islam to us?", which raises the obvious question of what makes a man with a name like "Mark Steyn" better qualified?) But hey, if it's diversity Steyn wants, I'm sure he'd be happy to give up his cushy gig on the cocktail circuit and hand the reigns over to a Muslim, right? actually I think steyn would correct you: "there ARE peaceful, rational muslims. most of them are. just as most germans were not nazis - but alot that did the rest of the world and the jews. if peaceful rational muslims will not speak up out of fear, then the refusal to print cartoons is just another form of the aqcuiescent, peacful muslim." You've got him good, Jerry .... CONGRATS! Here it is in black & white if he doesn't believe you: http://www.suntimes.com/output/steyn/cst-edt-steyn051.html Second to last paragraph, I think.
-
That shows how much you know about Steyn. He's a rather elusive figure who, in many cases, has never even met his bosses or colleagues. A funny story is that once he was persuaded to attend some office meeting of a paper in Britain & was approached by another member of the staff with "Hey I hear we're all finally going to get to see Mark Steyn today". Not quite the boulevardier you make him out to be.

All of my today's dailies are discussing the hot topic below, so I'm reasonably certain that Greg has already seen it and is now pondering over what to do. But just on the off chance that he didn't see it yet .... I thought I'd better put it out here because it's important: http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/st...2d6d0b9&k=25275

Yet another great column by Mark Steyn .... thank you Jerry!

That would be extemely personal, like asking if it was retarded, a hermaphrodite or a stillborn. What is it about JerrySeinfeld, 'BB', and others, that compels them to try to have their names seen, even with asshole comments like this? One would think that this thread is the one place a troll would avoid, but then again, it might be a compulsion to strong to resist. A hermaphrodite? God bless Hollywood ... it's giving the proles a whole new vocabulary to work with. And yes, I'm sure Greg would be telling us he's bringing home the baby & was going to be very busy if it were stillborn. Maybe your kin do things like that ... but it's really considered in bad taste by genteel folks. Hey ... Greg sounds like a successful guy & most successful guys like competition. I figured his little bruiser was a 10 & he'd like to brag about that. He just wrote that he's up to 13 pounds already ... so it looks like I was right on that score. Go Holden!

Everyone asks "what sex is it?" and "how much does it weigh?" . Asking what it's Apgar score was shows that you really care. So, go ahead .... ask him!

What about this guy (Lance Saunders) who wants Toronto's Air Canada Centre stadium to stop selling peanuts because his son is allergic to the aroma of them. Nuts or what!? How long before Muslims take a cue from this and start demanding that pork sausages be banned in public places, I wonder.

Klein Is Violating The Canada Health Act

If I were a rich man, Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum. All day long I'd biddy biddy bum. If I were a wealthy man. I wouldn't have to depend on Medicare. Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum. If I were a biddy biddy rich, Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man. I'd build a big tall house with PET and CT scan rooms by the dozen, Right in the middle of the town. A fine tin roof with real MRI machines below. Oy, what a happy mood I'd be in. Screaming at the doctors, day and night. The most important physicians in town would come to fawn on me! They would ask me to advise them, Like a Solomon the Wise. "If you please, BB..." "Pardon me, BB..." Posing problems that would cross a surgeons' eyes! And it won't make one bit of difference if I am a hypochondriac. When you're rich, they take you seriously! If I were rich, I'd have the time that I lack To sit in a CT scan doughnut day and night. And I'd discuss medical books with the learned men, several hours every day. That would be the sweetest thing of all. If I were a rich man, Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum. All day long I'd biddy biddy bum. If I were a wealthy man. I wouldn't have to wait in line to get my hypochondria treated. Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum. If I were a biddy biddy rich, Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man. -
And if it's a girl I wouldn't call her "Jasmin". There is a contraceptive on the market by that name. Also an acne medicine by the name of "Yasmin".

Biblio Bibuli replied to tml12's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Waiting lists should be the least of your problem. You see, for an elective surgery like a knee replacement ..... WHO CARES IF I HAVE TO HOP ON ONE LEG A LITTLE LONGER ... IT WON'T KILL ME. I will live. For bypass surgery they generally check you into a hospital for a couple of days to ply you with medicines to alliviate the symptoms of your impending heart attack .... BUT AS LONG as you don't volunteer and tell them that you feel better after these treatments, they will keep you in and you'll have your operation within weeks. You will live. But because many cancers are slow moving and expensive to find & treat it is not cost-effective under socialized medicine to look for it too aggressively. By waiting until the cancer is in it's later stages, preferably until it spreads and the tumors are the size of tennis balls, governments save a bundle because you see, nothing much can be done by then. They just send you home. TO DIE! And I don't agree with that !!!! That's why I go to the U.S. once in a while and get thoroughly checked. And if EVER there is a sign of cancer, I'll just saunter back to a Canadian hospital with instructions on how I must be treated, with the word "TIMELY" underlined. By gosh ... I think that could work! -
Well if it's a boy I hope they don't name him "John". That name's got all kinds of bad connotations ... a toilet, a prostitute's customer, an unknown (John Doe). Even songs aren't complimentary .... "Big Bad John". Even John Keats complained about it in a letter to his sister-in-law: "If you should have a boy do not christen him John ... 'Tis a bad name and goes against a man. If my name was Edmund I should have been more fortunate", he wrote.

Must have been a sight to see. Sorry I missed it. My favorite highlights from the Oscars were when they discussed George Jonas and that I finally got to meet RDunn's favorite author, Larry McMurtry.

Stewart's a funny guy, I'm looking forward to that. My favorite was when Stewart mused on Spielberg's hits: "Steven Spielberg gave us Schindler's List and now Munich. I think I can speak for all Jews when I say I can't wait to see what happens to us next. Ooooh ... a Trilogy." That cracked me up. Then he went right into why Bjork wasn't there ... Cheney shot her. Ba da boom, ba da BAM.

Did I ask myself why I'm bothered so much by truths like ...... "Because cancer is a slow moving and expensive disease to treat, it is not cost-effective under socialized medicine to treat the disease too aggressively. This saves governments money but at a high human cost." Yes I did, Geoffrey. Discused it all weekend with my good friend, Carl Jung, and I think he hit the nail on the head when he said: "Aging people should know that their lives are not mounting and unfolding but that an inexorable inner process forces the contraction of life. For a young person it is almost a sin .... and certainly a danger .... to be too much occupied with himself, but for the aging person [like you, BB] it is a duty and a neccessity to give serious attention to himself." So there!
