"There's one more terrifying fact about old people: I'm going to be one soon." - P. J. O'Rourke The first time he said that was when he was fortysomething (1991). I wonder how many times he said it since, and whether he's still saying it. I bet you he does.

All of the article is good .... I like the end part the best. """ To "maintain" their craving for alcohol they needed a 140-ml glass of wine every hour from seven in the morning until 10 o'clock at night. But this isn't party time on the public purse; it's a palliative to help them through to an inevitably early grave. I cannot imagine the dreadful misery of being trapped in such a nightmare. And, if we have an ounce of sympathy, we might consider today's proposal as both sensible and humane. """

Looks like my favorite columnist from The Province wants to play too. He's all for it. Look: http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/edi...5b-ad5f94aff30d What he obviously doesn't realise is that there are thousands of us waiting in the wings to get in on this program. Vancouver city council plans are to start it off with only red wine, but once they offer beer, ANY BEER, I'm in! What's your poison?

Who Hates the USA?
Biblio Bibuli replied to PocketRocket's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Not if you value the time spent with your kids. Although you may not be able to stay at home with them while they are young, you will more than make up for it when they are fully grown adults and still living with you. -

If you ask me, you WERE kind of lukewarm to Tucker Carlson's friendly comedy schtiks in that thread, Pocket Rocket, and that alone got me a bit outraged too, becaause I always think of you as someone with a terrific sense of humor. -
Please, let's not exaggerate.

Who Hates the USA?
Biblio Bibuli replied to PocketRocket's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Could the big issue be that we cannot KEEP UP WITH THE JONESES as we used to? And that we are getting poorer and poorer compared to the Americans with each passing year? First it was all that extra money in their pockets that we were jealous ... but we excused it by saying that they have to pay American prices. Now everything in America is cheaper to buy than in Canada. I'M MAD AS HELL !!!! Not at the Americans, of course. At our government. -
You think women will vote for Stronach because she is a woman? What planet have you been living on for the past zillion years? Among the 0.1% of the Canadian population that might potentially join the federal Liberal Party, yes.If you need more evidence than my opinion, I suggest you do some searches on this forum, on the Internet or take a look at some polls. I know I know ... it's always said about women (never about men) that women will get the women's vote. What's puzzling is that, if this is true, how come men are always the leaders in Canada and the U.S.? Women outnumber men in both these countries, yet we have never had an elected lady Prime Minister, nor have the Americans ever had a lady President. GO CONDI & Hillary GO! (Which reminds me, do American men yell that should one of these gorgeous ladies win it will be the women's vote that did it?)

HEY HEY HEY .... if our soldiers don't like their tootsies touching anything but buttersoft Italian Gucci leather, LET them spend their own money. Or maybe it would be fair to reimburse them for those "real man boots" that they so shun .... to be applied towards those Italian buttersofties. HEY, I've noticed how overweight most of our soldiers are. Should we maybe provide them with the Jenny Craig diet? TSK TSK TSK ... what spoiled brats Canadian soldiers are. BTW - Is it really true that out of the 2200 of our soldiers that are in Afghanistan, only less than 500 are actually trained for combat, the rest (1700) being just support staff, good for nothing but to RAH RAH RAH the real guys on? What a shame!

Quote ONE pot head that's quotable and I'll quote you TEN alcoholics! Starting in biblical times. And if you think marijuana didn't grow freely in biblical times you are sadly mistaken. RED WINE IS JESUS!!!

Thanks for the info ... it was very informative. And you're very correct in your assessment. My riding is Liberal one ... Vancouver Center .... & I'm sure the old guard in the party have the delegates all sewn up. Oh well it could be interesting just to go to one of those delegate elections & who knows ... they could be all Ignatieff supporters by then. At least I'd get a vote for my $10 if that were the case.

Most expensive place to live in Calgary
Biblio Bibuli replied to spitnshine's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
My guess is (and I'm willing bet on it) that in Vancouver's Point Grey area lays the most expensive piece of residential property in all of Canada. Where in Point Gray, you ask? Cameron Street, of course! -
Sadly, I get the impression that you are one of the few people that could have their mind changed... I bet you that if Elton John and David Furnish read BD's posts they too would choose to get married in Canada instead of getting civil-unionized in England.

Where? This is all I could find: I'll take your word for it. So, it seems now the race is on to sign up new members. Any word about how members will vote on delegates? And how delegates to the convention will be apportioned by riding? I'm very interested in this topic & would appreciate any info that any of you can give. For the first time in my life I'm planning to join a political party ... the Liberals ... just because I am very impressed with Michael Ignatieff. I would even really like to be a delegate for him ... how does one throw one's hat into the ring for this designation?

Taking your ball and going home - that's an attitude that'll change opinions. Hi Greg! If he happens to be serious, that would be a great huge blow to MLW, imo. He IS, if not the best, definitely in the top five or ten of the master debators here, imho. If I were in your shoes I'd go after him. Pay him if you have to.

With Stephen Harper representing Canada?? GO IGNATIEFF GO !!!

Who Hates the USA?
Biblio Bibuli replied to PocketRocket's topic in Canada / United States Relations
But at least we can console ourselves in the fact that these people no longer represent the government of Canada. Harper's first photo-op was a not by co-incidence in Afghanistan. I think we can hope now that "God will bless Canada". -

No name pundit? What are you talking about ??? Tucker Carlson is hilarious! He's bang on with his observations on Canada ... my personal favorite being "Canadians are sort of like made in Taiwan Americans". Now that's funny!!
