Fall of the house of Ralph
Biblio Bibuli replied to Black Dog's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
It ought to be of big interest to ALL of Canada, because ALL of Canada will be positively affected if the man who stands head above shoulders over ALL Canadian politicians, Preston Manning, wins. WAKE UP CANADA! -
Fall of the house of Ralph

He won't run unless he's sure that he will win. I'm damn sure about that. That's why I'm going to lay money down on him as soon as he enters, because I know that if he gets cold feet they'll have to scratch him and I'll get all my money back. A 'can't lose situation', one might say. -

Well he doesn't necessarily have to run as a Tory does he? He's pretty adept at starting new parties. Stay tuned. As for Dinning ... you may not think he's a front runner. But alas it appears that Poor Jim does. All I know is that 45% of Ralph's party members are traitors and that if Preston Manning does enter the race he will beat them all, handily. And that that is exactly what Ralph wants. -
Fall of the house of Ralph

The decision to pack it in early was made for him by the front-runner... Jim Dinning... in order to snag his job. Today, the NP's Don Martin is innocently asking ... why is Ralph dragging out his reign to the end of the year? Innocently my foot! Don knows what Ralph's up to, he knows that Ralph is doing that in order to give his favorite replacement, Preston, a little extra time so that when the time comes, Jim will wish he had never entered. Don is generally generous with his handicapping skills, but like any professional tout, he too will not share a tip on a "sure thing" until he's made his wager. I've got news for him! I already DID screw up his odds by betting a bundle on Presto! -

As Caesar had his Brutus, Ralph had his Jim. When the betting windows open, I wouldn't touch Jim with a ten foot pole. -
I just had breakfast with my friend Ezra this morning, and we both agree that Preston Manning could be the next premier if he wants it. The ONLY question we both, Ezra & I, are still mulling over is: Will he take over the Tories - or crush them with a new party? After breakfast with Levant I had lunch with Don Martin. He went on about how: "The bad blood from having Klein's guts spilled all over the convention floor will hemorrhage further as the party hacks itself apart into various leadership camps. What Paul Martin found out when he inherited a divided mess from his Chretien takedown will be rediscovered by the next leader of the Alberta Progressive Conservatives. They'll find out Humpty Dumpty really is a toughie to put together again." That got me thinking that Preston Manning should "crush them with a new party." Don't you think?

Still, though, I'm going with my original gut instinct on this. MY gut instinct on this is that he said it just to encourage the other would-be kidnappers. And I don't need to rely on my gut instinct to know that he has succeeded. What an ugly thing to do.

I made my bet (6000) on the Bush vs. Kerry election at the Czech site "Tipsport.cz", through my old school friend who still lives there. I nearly doubled my money. I WAS going to put a similiar amount on Martin vs. Harper (CPC majority) but luckily tipsport.cz didn't offer it. I WISH there was "real" dependable betting on little things like Canadian politics as I'd be a rich man by now. You know what I think? I think that if betting on elections was promoted & widespread & allowed, all of the pollsters would be completely out of business in no time.

How do you think I feel? After losing a bundle on the federal election (I hear you lost a pretty penny too) this is a great opportunity for us to make all of our money back, and then some. But you see, we must bet him now, because once Don Martin declares him a shoe-in (sometime early next week is my bet) the odds on Presto will drop like a rock. So better run now, Geoffrey, and pawn that lugeing/skeleton equipment of yours, or something.

I don't think it's just those without a sense of humor that are staying away from here, Jerry. My guess is that ever since that English sot said: http://www.bartleby.com/66/80/12380.html many boys & girls feel that they are too educated for that stuff. I LOVE this site! Your "Brainy Quote" site is an admirable work, and I'm studying it intently. (just in case anybody wonders where I am)

Seriously?? ... My platform would be to put money in the Canadian people's pockets until we were back on even par (or nearly even) with the Americans again. The way we used to be. Then I would change the anthem from "O Canada ..." to " HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN ..." From what I hear that is precisely what Michael Ignatieff wants to do. GO IGNATIEFF GO !!!

There are lots and lots of funny quotations to be found on the site you kindly provided, and I'm sure every MLW poster is enjoying it. And should you ever decide to start a "Beautiful Quotes" competition, posters here would be beating each other off with sticks trying to enter their favorite. Here's mine (for now): http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/h...ncke129266.html

Michael Ignatieff's "vision speech" to the U of O students on Thursday should convert many a nonbeliever. GO MICHAEL GO !!!

I don't see anything "equal" about this: "Feminism is the result of a few ignorant and literal-minded women letting the cat out of the bag about which is the superior sex." - P.J. O'Rourke

Two comments. 1/ "going to the most backwards part of the world and declaring that their religion is the root of their problems". Well it is. Why do you think it is the most backward part of the world? There's money there in the Arab part & a long history of culture & learning in the Pakistan/ Bangladesh area from their Indian roots, but still they remain mired in the 13th century. What OTHER explanation do you have for that? Basmati rice? 2/ You condemn Steyn for "supposing" that Islam is supposed to be different from other religions? Well yes ... about a billion Muslims think it is "different" from other religions ... so I guess he got that right. Why are we supposed to assume that because it's a "religion" it's a good thing? Where is that written? If a guy guns down 17 people in a mall because he heard God tell him to ... is that ok? I mean it's obviously the guy's "religion". Ok ... so I had three comments.

I don't mind though for I'm a "clever" man. http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/r...dkip137110.html

Here is one of the ones that I can 100% vouch for: "A man may be a fool and not know it, but not if he is married." H. L. Mencken
-
How about this one?: "A bore is simply a nonentity who resents his humble lot in life, and seeks satisfaction for his wounded ego by forcing himself on his betters." - H. L. Mencken I'm not trying to point fingers or anything .... honest.
