CORRECTION - I said Guccis, the editorial below says Prada. I STILL think it's Guccis! http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/ed...f5-0d448954309e Here's an excerpt: "A lot of adjectives have been used to describe Pope Benedict XVI, but here's a new one: Fabulous. In contrast to his media savvy, but dowdy, predecessor, the new Pontiff is cutting quite the figure in the Vatican and around the world. Benedict has been seen sporting Bushenell Serengeti sunglasses and stylish red shoes that look conspicuously like Prada. So impressive is Benedict's fashion sense that many companies are now hankering for a piece of the Pontiff, so to speak. Indeed, having your products associated with His Holiness is considered far better than hiring an A-list Hollywood celebrity to do your shilling for you. Which makes Benedict something like the Oprah of the fashion set. Among companies that have sought, and received, the Pope's blessing, so to speak, are the Italian shoe company Geox SpA, whose founder is a friend of papal spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Walls, Apple Computers, which provided Benedict with an engraved iPod, and DaimlerChrysler, which builds the popemobile. Companies have to be careful, of course, that they're not viewed as using His Holiness to improve their bottom line, as using heavenly means to sell their earthly goods. But while maintaining a certain level of discretion, many companies are now donating their products to the Pope and praying, so to speak, that he'll deign to use them in public. All of which means we need a new term to describe the Benedict's impact on the fashion world. Call it Pope couture. >>>SNIP<<<

Sure you should! If the cost is a thousand bucks and only one in a hundred will turn out positive, that's too much money. But if on average one in 5 will turn out positive ... even the Canadian Medicare people will give you a prompt date with a CT scanner. My point is .... if they are willing to spend $5000 to catch one culprit .... why wouldn't they offer me my measilly $ 700 back? ( I bargained them down.)

Ignatieff for Liberal Leader!
Biblio Bibuli replied to geoffrey's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That's EXACTLY what Andrew Coyne said yesterday: "Sam Phillips, the Sun Records owner and discoverer of Elvis, famously said "if I could find a white boy who could sing like a Negro I could make a million dollars." Mr. Ignatieff has a bit of the same quality. He can say some quite bluntly conservative thing, yet sound like a liberal the whole time. The words may be on the right, but the music is left. In politics, that's gold." http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/columni...03-6f410e7a371c -
We all know how stingy our Medicare can be in prescribing expensive diagnostic tests, compared to the U.S. HMOs. Is it true that when an American health insurer denies your request for an MRI, PET or CT scan and you go ahead and pay for these tests out of your own pocket, if the test turns out positive they'll reimburse you pronto, with an attached letter of apology? Why isn't our Medicare doing that?

No but masturbation is not "having sex". I think the correct theological term for it is "diddling around". And yes you can get AIDS on the pill. As a matter of fact I think if the Catholic Church had it their way, AIDS would be mandatory for pill users.

I like Luke. One of my favorites is: Luke 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea. I bet you that Benedict XVI is keeping that one in his back pocket.

If you read his treatise on love ... you'd remember what "what's his faces" name is. There's only one Pope every couple of decades, surely you can commit the name to memory. Benedict XVI to you, or as we popiacs call him ... Benny. It's not really up to the Pope to get everyone in Africa to act more sexually responsible. Lots of NGO's are trying & it just isn't working. The same continent that thinks that sleeping with a virgin (maybe even a baby) will protect you from the slimming disease isn't really going to care what some guy in red Guccis & a little beanie says, is it? But let's throw the big one on the table for discussion ... you should only have sex for reasons of procreation ... or god'll get you. He's getting them, no?

Being a movie buff you of course remember the scene in "Crocodile Dundee" where some toughs approach Hogan, brandishing a knife. Hogan, in response, says "Is that a knife?" He then shows them his huge blade, remarking, "Now that's a knife." The hoods flee. Well ... I'm still waiting for Benedict XVI to do the same thing. Muslims are continuously pushing the Koran in peoples' faces to gain sympathy .... and ONE day, one day soon I expect Benny to respond to them in a similar way, like saying "Is that the book?" He then shows them his huge Bible, remarking, "Now that's the Book!" What a nice ending to today's terrorism that will be. I LIKE good endings.

Is Globe & Mail Going Way Of Do-Do Bird?
Biblio Bibuli replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
BINGO! By the time those Grim Reapers see anything you're three quarters dead. A Cat Scan is the ONLY way to go! -
Ever since Joe Ratzinger got the top post I KNEW there were going to be changes, big, HUGE changes. I was getting a little worried, but reading this article in the Globe: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Pag...orce_login=true where it says: "So how to assess Benedict's first year in charge? One hears ubiquitously that the tradition in Germany is for a new pastor of a church to do nothing in his first year other than walk the same path as his predecessor ... observe, analyze, but make no changes. It is said that this is what Joseph Ratzinger did in his first year as archbishop of Munich, and what he did in his first year as prefect of the CDE." I worry no more. Now that we know WHY Joe Ratzinger was holding back ... my faith in him is fully restored. He is our best hope to stop all the fighting between peoples, and, although it may not be pretty, he's gonna do it ... by hook or by crook.

Suicide bombers are not going to wipe out the state of Israel. That's the difference. Only one party to this conflict has the capacity to completely wipe out the other. And it ain't Hamas or the P.N.A. The Bible's "turn the other cheek" recommendation was never meant for the superpowers. So, we should declare open season on those who are declaring open season on us. And offer rewards and bonuses, as they do. That would stop Hamas et al in no time.

Mulroney Honoured As Canada's Greenest PM
Biblio Bibuli replied to Teddy Ballgame's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hi Teddy! This morning browsing through your posts, I found this little unpleasantry in your MacIsaac thread: "Teddy, you'll be taking a one month vacation for the foul mouth insults you used earlier in this thread." I am so sorry to hear that! Obviously the jury at MLW is composed of 12 angry men. Greg then goes on to say: "Also, this whole thread isn't worthy of discussion and will be deleted shortly." I beg to differ! http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Pag...orce_login=true A month is not that long, Teddy. And believe you me when I tell you that I'll be counting the days, hours, and minutes awaiting your return. In the meantime I suggest that you take this oportunity take a littlr R&R. Here's a good tune to relax to: http://genoakeawe.com/frameset.performances.htm Au revoir! -
I remember you telling us once that the reason you don't drink and drive is because you drink expensive liquor [Crown Royal ... (same as TB, btw)] and worry you might spill some.

I saw an article in the paper this week on Mulroney's first big outing since "the illness". In this article ... he told us that he was "quoting himself". At the time I thought ... what in hell is happening? Does he think he is Voltaire and should be "quoting" hinself? Just say what you have to say Brian ... and you don't have to remind us that you said it before ... we obviously didn't care then & probably won't now. It wasn't quotable if you have to quote yourself. Now here we go again. You are "quoting yourself". When did modesty stop being a virtue? We're all Yogi Berra now, or what? Bartlett's take note!!!

WANNA BET!!! http://www.edmontonsun.com/News/Canada/200...18/1539100.html Just so you know what has happened to me if I'm AWOL for an extended period. If you go to Teddy's post from which I have quoted him, you will find that that paragraph doesn't show there. Now it is my word against his as to whether he actually said that .... and frankly my dears, I'm very surprised that I'm still here today, talking to you. I was SURE I'd be banned by now for saying that he has said something that he didn't. That's how he operates! God will punnish him for that!!! BTW - Is there even a one soul here that's willing to testify on my behalf? Didn't think so. -

Mulroney Honoured As Canada's Greenest PM
Biblio Bibuli replied to Teddy Ballgame's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The newspapers says he beat out Pierre Trudeau by a small margin. So it was the former Liberal environment minister's Sheila Copps' vote that propelled Mulroney to victory, you say? Hmm ... I didn't know this. You know, she should shake hands with Joe Clark, for he too voted for the opposition out of sheer bitterness. -

Close call. Serves him right for jumping the queue! I hope he's all right now though. -
I can see how wearing a flying squirrel hat or mittens could give you a psychological advantage while lugeing/skeletoning or going down mountains. Wouldn't help you an iota in yesterday's Boston Marathon though. How did you do? PS - I always use those strap on Chinese umbrellas when I'm running. It gives me a lift.

World Oil Prices Going Through the Roof
Biblio Bibuli replied to sharkman's topic in The Rest of the World
Considering that in the 60's only whimps had any less than a 350 cubic inch engine with a 4 barrel carburetor in their vehicles, and that the whimps who settled for big six cillinder engines instead were still using up twice as much gasoline per mile as today's hot rodders .... I say gasoline is dirt cheap today. -

You mean you don't have a subscription to Macleans? I picked it up at the dentist last December & was blown away. There were Mark Steyn ... Barbara Ameil, Paul Wells ... all the old gang pulled together by the new editor ... the guy that Izzie canned from the National Post. It was a great feeling ... like finding the bar where all your friends have moved to when you go back home to visit & discover the old haunt was razed. I took out a subscription immediately & wait with bated breath every wednesday for my mailman. -

Biblio Bibuli replied to sharkman's topic in The Rest of the World
Oil Prices are going through the roof? Gasoline costs only 10 times as much as it did 37 years ago. New cars, food, real estate, housing rental ... just about everything is higher than that today. So what's the big deal? -

And what birthday did the best Pope we ever had, Benedict XVI, celebrate today? Preston could be his son for crying out loud! TSK TSK TSK TSK, TSK TSK TSK TSK !!! -
As of now, only when you share an apartment with a member of the opposite sex can you be denied the perks that come with your low pension. They just declare you "common-law" whether you want it or not, and if the roomie you share the apartment with has a good pension, your perks will be taken away. And if you both are the poor of the earth with very low pensions that must be suppplemented, supplelments will be lowered. That ALSO isn't fair.
