  1. Frankie, something tells me Elton doesn't like the Christians who believe in a relationship with God either. BTW, God told the Jews to build their temple and He ordained the religion that the Jews had before Christ.
  2. Rue you are out to lunch.
  3. Man Drea, you sure have a chip on your shoulder. BTW, a generation is generally 40 years. In stating things have swung to the center the last 2 generations, you don't mean since the 1920's, do you? Your idea of all the way to the right may be off a little. Nazi Germany was far right. Us Western nations have so far been able to avoid such wild extremes, although with the harvesting of fetuses for stem cell experiments, I think we are at a tipping point, morally speaking.
  4. No, I'm just thinking in philosophical terms I suppose. Imagine no pornography...
  5. So what is your solution to the problem? Go after Playboy? I wonder, is it possible to discuss this without knee jerk responses? My question is why has porn become so acceptible and wide spread. Some mass murderers say it affected their views on violence towards women. If we had no porn and no Ted Bundys, I'd call it a fair trade off. It just seems porn can't stay within legal bounds. Within the last year in Edmonton, a internet child porn ring was busted. It seems they would take requests and then abuse the child live in the requested way.
  6. Maybe China's many human rights violations has something to do with it. Or perhaps their industry which pirates anything it can get its hands on. How about their military complex, and all of the missile technology they've stolen. Nah, let's blame Harper...
  7. I would say many people feel this way. However, 'banning religion' will never work. Just as 'banning homosexuality' wouldn't work. I'd rather see an all out debate about 'Which is the one true god?" (Or scripture...and the evidence for or against the existence of god, and 'truthfulness' of all religious texts, to be put to a worldwide trial) And many people also feel religion is very benefical and gives them the strength to be forgiving. As a christian, I feel the gay lifestyle is wrong. However, I am not a 'hateful' lemming nor do I hate gays, which is the pet stereotype usually trotted out on this topic. For Elton to lash out at religions, it only shows his prejudices.
  8. Is there a level of porn saturation in society that would be bad? Right now our culture still thinks there is, with movie ratings and age restrictions in strip clubs. I know these days the fad is to not judge anybody or what a person does in their own room is none of anybody's business. Of course millions of those who are sexually abused and molested would beg to differ. BTW, it's not easy to gve up smoking at all. To answer the question, porn is much more popular because it's stronger than erotica. Just like people trend to stronger drugs for the effect. Someone who regularly views porn, try this experiment. Stay away from porn completely if you can for three weeks.(The time 'they' say it takes to form a new habit) Tell us if you were able to completely stay away. This would only be for someone who regularly views it.
  9. Old people like me remember young girls dying of clotheshanger abortions in warehouses. Old people remember young girls who said no and meant it, young men who wouldn't use date rape drugs, and a time when kiddie porn did not exist.
  10. You never mentioned Iraq, which is what most pundits are saying is at the root of angst with Bush. Most of the other points you mentioned I remain unconvinced about. In the Foley incident, maybe I missed something, but they got rid of him awfully fast, didn't they? Fiscally speaking, I agree with you generally, although referencing children and grand kids seems a little over the top. Democrats have loved to claim Republicans were stealing from seniors as well, which is ridiculous. More rabid Dem commentary with the claim that Republicans wanted a nation that tortures. Come on, what you refer to is very complicated and the offending phrase is only more fearmongering. Family values includes a family's right to decide when to pull the plug, not have the state decide for you. Terry's case was sad, but this is a rare case when the family couldn't put her out of her misery. So the state starved her to death. Before you talk about keeping religion out of politics, maybe you should read up on your founding fathers who prayed frequently when leading the nation. Most of them were Christians. Also, God is on your money, in your pledge of alligence, and in your constitution. You're in the wrong nation if you don't like it. I suppose you didn't mind whenever Clinton was seen swinging a bible outside a church, usually when he was in trouble! I agree that the Republicans lost this election but it's actually no big deal. Historically, the ruling party loses big at the 6 year election. Clinton lost congress even earlier than that. What Bush has done, to have both houses for 6 years, is quite rare.
  11. IMO Fox isn't a diamond in the rough, that was maybe their first year. Now that they regularly beat the other networks they are top of the heap. The true center in politics can only be remembered by old people. Before abortion was even a twinkle in Morgantaler's eye. We've strayed so far to the left in Canada we are pretty close to socialism. Fox is closer to the middle than any other network I can think of. I just love it when these lefties grouse about Fox, they are just proving Fox's success.
  12. Aren't those just Dem talking points? None the less, voter disenchantment with the Republicans won the day.
  13. I think there is supposed to be a difference, but I don't think they are worlds apart.
  14. well, in that case I hope he shares all of his strategies, because he had little to do with it. The Dem victory was because of voter disenchantment with the Republicans. Unless he had something to do with all the scandal leaks, but I hope we don't resort to that kind of thing up here.
  15. And when this happens, will the Main Stream Media notice? No, they will suddenly notice how the glass is half full in regards to everything. Oh well, at least it will be a different tune.
  16. Typical Layton, trying to make something out of nothing. It was the US ELECTION Jackie, and someting you swhould be well aware of since you take every opportunity to distance Canada from them the rest of the time.
  17. When you bastardize a symbol that is used to honor our dead, and use it for a movement that belittles the sacrifices the soldiers made, it is a slap in the face. One such person's thoughts were in the letters section of the National Post today. She said the white poppy meant to her seeing a little dutch boy standing by the side of the road as the allies marched in to free them. To her it would mean having the boy hold up a sign saying,' Thank you so much for liberating us, but could you have done it without all the fighting?" The mindset that believes Hitler could have been beaten without fighting him is a mindset that dooms us to repeat history.
  18. David Frum wrote a book on his time in the White House, and in speaking of Rumsfeld, said his mind truly sparkled. I found this to be true whenever Rumsfeld was at a press conference. The press would try to ask embarrassing quetions or trick him but he always mopped up the floor with them.
  19. I was thinking of the impact of seeing Saddam swinging before the election. What are your thoughts on the Foley scandal? Did it happen too early to help the Dems? Personally, I think it aided them greatly and had there been no other scandals they could have won on that alone. Lowering gas and oil prices, a still healthy economy and North Korea all helped the Republicans. And this last weekend of Haggard and Saddam is sure to effect things even more.
  20. How long did ole Saddy have to wait for the verdict? If it had been given any time in the last month, there could have been claims of beneficial timing. Three days befoe the election does help the Republicans some, but it would have been much more helpful a couple of weeks ago when there would have been time for it to really sink in. And see the guy hanged. In other timing questions, the gay hooker who blew the whistle on Haggard says straight up he did it now to affect the election. There seems to be plenty of these 'timing' events this election.
  21. Of course they are! Nothing like 2 months of mudslinging and scandals to get the blues.
  22. These are all facts. The criminal government was was put in place of Haitis popular elected government by JTF and the US marines. JTF guarded the airport while the marines went in and captured Aristide. This information has been given in a multitude of ways. Aristide himself explains it on an interview on Democracy Now. There was also a History channel documentary on it. This is always done to third world countries because the oligarchy that has you brainwashed want control of Haiti to prevent a popular government from taking control. People are not going to make running shoes and T shirts for us at slave labour rates unless they are forced to. Ex CIA people have been comming out about the truth about Afganistan since the 70's. If you look at the UN statistics or can remember the news before sept 11 (mainstream TV news) you will recall that the Taliban was burning the opium crops. Sept 11 happened giving us an excuse to go in and restore the opium trade. It also made people forget about Sept 10 2001 - Rumsfeld announced (On TV) that 2.3 trillion dollars just somehow dissapeared and cannot be traced. Sept 11th let you forget about that. Thats over 8 K of debt for every living American. Before sept 11 the opium trade was at 400 billion per year. The Taliban went in, burned the crops and cut that down by 90 % in a matter of months. We went in right after Sept 11 and a few months later the crops were back in full production, now at 600 billion per year, of which the Afgan farmers get about 1- 3 % of their value. This is also backed up by UN stats. Even Noam Chomsky writes about the CIA drug trade and them bringing drugs in on air force jets. Do you really think we would have so much drugs if governments didn't want them here? History shows that concentrations of power such as what we have now work against people. We have a concentration of financial powers now that rivals Germany in the 30's. Mao, Stalin, Hitler & others IN THIS CENTURY have all had mass extermination camps. Hitler Mao & Stalin were all run by the same international bankers that currently own both the democrats and republicans. We also have currently about 800 concentration camps equiped with asphixiation gas chambers. Germans didn't believe it in the 30's any more than you believe it now. You have to wonder when the media is owned by about 10 corporations and the Pentagon spends billions per year managing your belief system (mainstream news again). If your beliefs exactly coincide with what they want you to believe, perhaps its because you don't want your tax dollars wasted. Maybe its just cowardice - the truth is hard to face sometimes. All these other people have been fooled - but not you ! You are too smart to be fooled like this ! - you watch TV ! - much smarter than the 6 million Jews that died in ww2. Hold up dude! you REALLY need to get a grip. It sounds like your whole life revolves around these pet conspiracy theories you follow religiously. Why do you constantly look in the shadows for signs of other theories? In general, can anybody remember, "A Beautiful Mind", a movie with Russel Crowe? In the movie, the character became consumed with his theories of government plots, and I wonder if the popularity of conspiracy theories could be a statement on the collective mental health of at least some of those heavily involved, and simplemindedness of some others. I don't mean to say that eveyone who follows these things is off his rocker, but I do wonder how many's rockers are getting rather squeaky.
  23. BD, this seems to be a breaking story, maybe you haven't heard. Here's my source. Other headlines I have seen include, "Democrats Lead Narrowing" and a story in the Washington Post referencing movement in the Republicans direction. Perhaps your link hasn't been updated yet.
  24. Yeah, the only poll that counts is on election day. But this won't be the Dems' attitude... The republicans just might hold onto both houses, and this is causing a meltdown among liberals. Expect Lou Dobbs to contribute a special effort to their cause.
  25. Don't look now, but the Republicans are finishing strongly. The double whammy of Saddam's verdict and yet another Kerry boner have narrowed the Dem's lead with 2 days to go. The Drudge Report has them at 47% and 43%. The Dems Pelosi has already signaled her troops with worrys of an 'honest' count. If the Dems do worse than the Main Stream Media is still shrieking about, look for claims of another stolen election. Personally I'm glad they will use this claim for a third time. It will become plain to more and more people how hollow this claim is sounding.
