  1. The Navy just released the most recent pictures of the new ships that we are considering: New Ships
  2. When in University I attend lots of protests. Found it a great way to meet passionate, dedicated and good looking co-eds.
  3. A military macho guy, collecting weapons and washed out of the military for sexual harassment. Would be a much bigger story if he shouted "Allahu Akbar" at some pointy in his attack.
  4. Without the increasing number of people with the ability to take video, we would not have any "controversy". One dead guy would be reported as pointing a gun at police and the other for reaching for a weapon that was later found in the car. The lack of police cameras in both these cases is suspicious.
  5. 25 years in the classroom followed by years in administration and supervision for a total of about 40 years in the business. For teachers, for a number of years, a hiring team of department heads plus one vice principal would do the interviews and recommend to the principal who would (in theory) make the final decision. For hiring department heads, usually principal, one vice principal and the rest department heads. For administration positions (Principals, vice principals) a hiring team of supervisors and trustees. Lately, I understand a union representative has to take part in all interviews (sometimes voting, sometimes just observing) depending on the board. Thank you for the question. Currently, I assume that I work for the federal government since it sends me a cheque every month
  6. From what I have seen on this board, there are at least 20 posters who consider themselves political geniuses who know more than those in our government. Well here is your chance. Just fill out a form and YOU may be chosen to sit in our Senate: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/wherry-senate-application-1.3669318 You may wonder of you qualify. Find out at: https://www.canada.ca/en/campaign/independent-advisory-board-for-senate-appointments.html You can even apply on-line and if you qualify and convince the hiring team that you are as smart as you think you are then you have a very good job. Go for it: https://senate-appointments.canada.ca/slctnPrcs.asp?lang=eng&SelectionProcessId={16B60EAB-75B2-4831-90AE-4138E9D100AB} What criteria would you like to see for appointment to our Senate?
  7. The Leafs are not fit enough to go the full season. They should take a tip from the rookie camp for the Waterloo Walrus's: Walrus Training Camp
  8. Did a lot of hiring - thank you. By definition, someone is "qualified" when they have the minimal requirements to apply for a job. For example - if a job requires a University degree in Computer Science then you need an accredited University degree to be even considered. If you do not have one then you are not qualified. If you have a University degree in Computer Science, and one in Sociology and one in Physical Education then you are qualified to apply. My experience had been that those who applied, whose credentials were verified and they were found to not have the qualifications, never got past the office manager to get to the hiring team. Perhaps we disagree in semantics but I have had this discussion in the past. You may advertise the "qualifications" required for the position and might add - "Additional background in ........... will be considered an asset". This often appears when the basics of the requirements are included in the qualifications but specifics of that particular position have nothing to do with the qualifications. (i.e An office manager for a veterinarian, a receptionist in an seniors home)
  9. In 2008, state and local law enforcement agencies employed more than 1.1 million persons on a full-time basis, including about 765,000 sworn personnel (defined as those with general arrest powers). Agencies also employed approximately 100,000 part-time employees, including 44,000 sworn officers. There are about 37 million Black or African Americans in the USA. “NEARLY 1 IN 5 AMERICANS SUFFERS FROM MENTAL ILLNESS EACH YEAR” http://www.newsweek.com/nearly-1-5-americans-suffer-mental-illness-each-year-230608 Therefore about 20% or 200,000 persons in law enforcement in USA suffer from mental illness. Therefore about 20% or 7 million Black or African Americans suffer from mental illness. There are about 300 million guns in the USA. So 1 white police officer shoots and kills 1 black man and everybody goes crazy. I'm surprised that it does not happen far more often.
  10. Throw $billions at our military and you will have a large, proud and strong military force looking for a war. I prefer a proud, small and weak one looking to avoid conflicts.
  11. This is a good example why any discussion of issues gets bogged down by the previous conflicts between posters on this board. Everything becomes your guy vs my guy. The question is should the Prime Minister of Canada attend the Sun Valley Conference? Of course he should. He is a chairman of our board and represents Canada wherever he goes. The criteria should be "Can what our PM is doing do good for Canada?". In this case the answer is "Yes".
  12. I think the base of disagreement here is what we mean by qualified. If it means "certified" then it is the minimal standard under an individual will be considered for a job. Once a person is considered "qualified" for the position then they go into a special pool from which any one can be chosen by the employer for the job. Now secondary considerations come into play. These secondary considerations will depend on the leanings or prejudices or those making the selection. For example, some will hire young over old because they are looking for someone who will stay for a long time, others will choose old over young because they prefer someone with maturity in decision making for that job. Some will hire male over female because of the disruptions to the organization with maternity leave others will choose female over male because they feel prefer females to deal with their customers. There are many examples - I am not condoning the practice but the hiring process is not blind, deaf and dumb but it satisfies the personal agenda of the hiring person (team). The bigger the pool, the more selective is the process. A truly objective method would be giving each member in the qualified pool a number and use some random method of choosing the winner. If it is a large pool then there will be many candidates with many different attributes available. Once the successful candidate(s) is chosen, then the casual observer will evaluate the criteria of selection based on their own personal agenda - woman, religion, political leanings etc. Therefore the criteria for praising or criticizing the selection is based on the personal leanings of the observer. There is no such things as "more qualified" or "less qualified" - there is "qualified" or "not qualified". There is no such things as "more pregnant" or "less pregnant" - there is "pregnant" or "not pregnant". I assume that these people were all qualified to preform judicial duties and were chosen from a large pool of candidates. Therefore any assumed criteria for their selection will vary and be based on the biases of the observer.
  13. I would like to but every time I react to a particularly irritating and unpleasant poster, he runs to the mods and my post disappears and I get another warning point. I am now the proud owner of 14 warning points - each earned in the defense of good taste and calling a duck a duck. I have never reported any poster to the mods for any crap directed at me and have no intention to do so. I believe those who insult others must have the courage to accept criticism in return rather than running to the mods like a petulant child in a recess period. But some posters have courage and others have yet to mature. I was ready to thank the mods for my 14 points until I found out that these warning points are not like bit coins to be traded and used for financial gain. A real bummer! I have no doubt that this easily identified, irritating poster will read this post run to the mods once more. In anticipation I am assessing that childish poster 1 Big Guy Bozo point. Also - Because the mods have assessed Big Guy a warning point for calling a duck a duck I am suspending MLW from my desktop for 2 days. Sorry, there are no appeals, and the suspension will be enforced until Friday June 8, 9:21 a.m.
  14. Anyone in the past who has underestimated what Kenney the politician can do has been mistaken. I personally am not too crazy about his politics but he does have a background of successful initiatives. He is trying to parachute into the "Progressive Conservative" party as an experienced "Harper Conservative" promising to take the "Wildrose Conservatives" and create a right wing cohesive unit which will take Alberta back to the right. Lots luck.
  15. I leave my machine on all the time. This morning, when I turned on the screen I waited, and waited and waited. Finally, found out that my technosmart grandson was on the machine this morning and had downloaded the following full screen: Screen Saver
  16. So it is official, Jason Kenny has decided to go into Alberta provincial politics: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/jason-kenney-alberta-pc-wildrose-leadership-calgary-announcement-1.3666596 Is he going to be another Harper or another Prentice?
  17. The Israeli government continues to put the squeeze on Palestinian children: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/06/gaza-schools-remain-ruins-years-war-160614065635894.html They appear content to keep Palestinian children from getting an education. Hey Canada, did we not send troops into Afghanistan so that little girls could go to school? Why are we silent when the Israelis ignore Palestinian children?
  18. Well, we just got a British OOPS!! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/07/06/chilcot-report-2003-iraq-war-was-unnecessary-and-invasion-was-no/ Will we see something similar from Bush? I think not.
  19. It may be a parody of parity or just a lack of proof reading before submitting.
  20. Whites beating blacks continues: Beating Just not fair!
  21. Little by little the American female is catching up to the American male: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/06/12/look-at-how-much-weight-weve-gained-since-the-1960s/ Some goals are not worth reaching.
  22. It ain't over till its over: https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2016/07/05/black-lives-matter-toronto-flooded-with-hate-mail-after-pride-protest.html and http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/black-lives-pride-1.3665955 If you gonna pitch then you gotta catch.
  23. It would be interesting to know how much the Postal Worker Union has in its war chest - because they will need every penny! I remember in 1965 when the union had some teeth. Our economy was based on the assumption that the postal service could be counted on to process communications. I remember the inconveniences that a postal strike created for me personally. I felt captive by the actions of that union. The postal unions went militant and were controlled by the Quebec wing. Subsequent flexing of union muscles was the greatest initiative for digital communications in Canada. It also led to an explosion in the number of private businesses prepared to deliver parcels. Now I see the union prepared to strike on two major issues (according to them) - pensions and equity. The pension issue is not for the existing workers but FOR FUTURE EMPLOYEES! Union stewards are asking people to stop working, taking a financial hit for somebody who will be hired in the future. This is ideology and certainly not rational representation of the existing members. If I was a member of that union I know where I would tell them to stick that request. This latest job question is only bringing to the forefront the growing irrelevance of Canada Post. WHAT TO DO WITH CANADA POST? Let the union lead it into oblivion!
  24. Message from Southern Ontario to the rest of Canada - SEND RAIN!

    1. Boges

      Boges

      Yeah, things are getting parched.

  25. After about 600 posts it appears to me that the idea of going to the public about what the future of the Canadian armed forces should be is a good idea.
