I think most Canadians know very little about our defense agreements with the U.S. (between Canada and the US there are currently over 80 treaty-level defence agreements, more than 250 memoranda of understanding between the two defence departments, and approximately 145 bilateral forums in which defence matters are discussed) and this is an area that requires strong government leadership and not the uninformed opinions of unfortunately, uninformed Canadians. http://www.forces.gc.ca/site/Newsroom/view_news_e.asp?id=836 We do have a direct obligation, period, despite who is president.

Russell by-law spat sparks bilingual study
Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Local Politics in Canada
That is the way it should be, but in this case they are implementing a by-law forcing businesses to post their signs in English/French. Do you not understand this Nazi style undemocratic conflict? Ottawa has already been through this in a similar fashion, that is, bilingual policies being decided by municipal and provincial politicians, by-passing the input of the populace. Rockland, Ontario has also seen undemocratic linguistic legislation like you already pointed out. Again, do you not understand this undemocratic Nazi style conflict implemented by politicans emulating a federal style bilingual policy in a province (Ontario) that is NOT officially bilingual? You are repeating yourself. No one is questing the fact about being able to post signs in WHATEVER language you choose. The involves creating a by-law forcing a community to post signs in a certain language, in this case French. You seem to have no problem allowing a by-law to override freedom of expression. It does not matter what the community is and besides there are many English speaking residents living there in a province that has no official language policy. The point AGAIN is FORCING by way of a by-law for businesses in that community to post there signs in English/French. This is undemocratic and is removes democratic constitutional rights (freedom of expression). This is entirely tied in to jobs as I explained previously with the imposed bilingual policy in Ottawa. Russell is headed down the same path. I support jobs for the most qualified applicant and not solely based on linguistics such as imposed bilingualism by municipal and provincial politicians that have no business emulating federal style bilingualism, overriding the legitimate concerns of the majority English speaking tax payers. It is obvious you know little about the hiring practices of English speaking or bilingual English speaking Canadians in Quebec. I suppose you forget their official language is French with no bilingual policies antwhere in Quebec. Quebec is highly protective of its French workforce amd hires Quebecers for employment. Check out the statistics how many English speaking employees are in the federal or provincial civil service in Quebec. -
Nato in my mind does not have to anything,as their interest are not the same as Canada's which mirror U.S. interest. Canada is an ally of the U.S. and has a DIRECT obligation to support the U.S. Fight on Canada and be proud.

Russell by-law spat sparks bilingual study
Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Local Politics in Canada
The right to post signs in the language of your choice. Read the article, a by-law is being created to override freedom of expression to cater to the language whims of a minority, despite Ontario NOT being officially bilingual. IOW, French language legislation is being imposed in a democracy with constitutional rights. It certainly has been a problem. Again, majority English speakers of Ontario are being blatantly discriminated upon by having French signs imposed upon a community. This is in Ontario, not communist Quebec. What bearing does that have on the rights of the Ontarians with Ontario Not being officially bilingual and with the language of the majority of Ontario being de-facto English speaking? Ottawa is a prime example where city council designated (without allowing input from the residents of the city of Ottawa) Ottawa officially bilingual following in the same manner as federal bilingualism. This has induced private employers outside the confines of city of Ottawa employment to hire bilingual individuals to cater to the French fact, in a province that is NOT officially bilingual, nor it's residents never given the democratic opportunity to voice there concerns in a referendum. We have cars pouring over from Quebec filling many Ottawa jobs, federal, municipal and private, taking jobs away from the MAJORITY unilingual English, Ottawa population. This is outright discrimination against the majority English population and it seems this is the corrupt way of imposing federal style official bilingualism and is being propagated anywhere there is a small group of minority French, relating to Ontario. You have your facts wrong. Quebec is close by the border of Ontario but its residents have nothing to do with being part of Ontario's workforce legally and is another province that harbours repulsive discriminatory language legislation. Ottawa also has a very small French population, so I really don't know what you are talking about. -
Federal court throws out "Charter rights" case

Canada 'IS STILL' a Constitutional Monarchy with the Queen being 'Head of State' and everyone follows suit. It is our tradition 'ya know'. -
How much "airspace" does a landowner own?
Leafless replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Political Philosophy
I don't believe that is factual as there is no private property in Canada. I have heard there is no limit although I don't have a cite to support this. -

Your right, they should be a lot lower. Why, we pay for what we use. Mobility is a right when society includes the right to live where you want. What times? Oh, you mean more pollution from third world countries like India and China from exploiting our remaining oil reserves. Like what, freezing in the dark? -
http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/c...80-7f98894ca5a8 This proposed, to be imposed by-law, effectively removes Canadians democratic right of freedom of expression. It will allow a by-law to override constitutional rights to make (force) businesses to provide bilingual signs in a province (Ontario) that is not 'officially bilingual. It also focuses on the premier of the province himself Dalton Mc.Guinty, a bilingual Liberal, who is not standing up for the rights of the large English speaking majority to make the province 'officially English speaking' to protect the democratic rights and JOBS of the majority English speaking population. This outright language discrimination further pits the English against the French and will force the English speaking public to stay clear of any politician that wants anything to do with bilingualism and to stand up for their democratic rights and not to be walked on by discriminatory French policies.

I agree, we are being ripped off in many areas but in many other areas of manufacturing and farming it is unavoidable due to transportation cost and our unfavourable climatic conditions, which are responsible for producing higher cost all around. This in turn induces unfortunately induces a higher level of state control to even out regional disparities which in turn pounds certain aspects relating to a higher level of democracy into the ground. How much longer this country can operate and or exist with a dysfunctional political system, coupled with forced state intervention (especially social), into what should be the evolved normal freedoms associated with majority concerns is anyone,s guess.

That is only one part of the problem. IMO, the main problem is the acceptance of corrupt values by parents who instill these values into the minds of their children. The other part of this problem is the importation of races and different cultures that do not share the same values and morals as those Canadians who's values and morals are still important.

Nice to know honest people do not become suddenly desperate or develop temporary insanity and do use their registered weapons in an unlawful manner. Dream on Wilber, and while we are at it let's open the hidden statistics and find out what specific group or groups are respnsible for the majority of gun related crimes and deal harshly with those individuals.

Canada is much to small of a country to provide a reasonable choice of any given 'made in Canada' product line by fully owned Canadian companies. We depend on the U.S. to protect our sovereignty and they depend on us for a multitude of rersources to protect their national interest, including protecting their sovereignty.

Who was more effective PM: Mulroney or Chretien?

Effective How? Closed door government or better government? -
That is correct, $3.5M for celebrations and $60M for infrastructure from your own quote, unlike Quebec though: This Quebec celebration mocks Canada's birthday as a country in respect to the founding of Quebec by Champlain, as Quebec as a (country) as many nationalistic Quebecers see it this way. Anyways, funding of provincial celebrations should be a provincial responsibility and nothing to do with federal support as it can be seen from this article the divisive issues that arise from this sort of federal funding. IMO the federal government is acting irresponsibly.

If you are as naive to believe France is not a key player and a country of importance in the eyes of Quebecers, as a country of their origin, you better think again. Quebec is part of Canada and that is what is important and celebrations should focus on Canada as a federation and not drag in troublesome inconsequential ancient political history that does nothing in the name of unity but only agitates and causes conflict between English/French divisions. With France participating rekindles emotional attachment relating to Samuel Champlain which is not in Canada's interest if you know your history. Don't be foolish. Quebecers had no legal rights to their French language prior to the Quebec Act. If that is your opinion fine, but IMO without the Quebec Act Quebec could have become another Louisiana. Britain did very well want Quebec to be fully assimilated. There are other factors including slow immigration from Britain as reason for the delay in assimilating Quebecers which resulted in not enough time for this to be accomplished, relating to problems with the colonies.

http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...6881628&p=1 I don't really know what Quebec is actually celebrating when France who lost on the 'Plains of Abraham', abandoned all North American territory with the 'Treaty of Paris'. Most Quebecers should know that since that treaty was inacted, they became British with No legal entity concerning the country of France and eventually became Canadian citizens. This in effect disassociates Quebecers with any claims made by Champlain If they want to celebrate, let them celebrate the Queens birthday as it was the British Monarchy that gave them the 'Quebec Act' which allowed them certian rights including the right to use their French language. All provinces should be treated equally as far as funding goes as their would be no funding period if Canada were Not a federation.

There is NO system of racial segregation in Canada. If Whites outnumber minorities, that is simply the nature of the country. Cultural government intervention discriminates, and you know that. -
Immigration and Multiculturalism in Canada
Leafless replied to iForgot's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Nothing surpasses your intelligence as your failure to understand the simple rules of this forum proves it, relating to personal attacks or maybe you are just an imbecile and simply don't understand. Anyways Rue, the Liberals and Quebec have always been one and are totally responsible for the implementation of undemocratic, anti-Canadian policies relating to the ROC and cater specifically to French Quebec and their nationalistic and cultural demands. The Liberals operate under the guise as a national federal party but serve in the primary interest of a corrupt Quebec and their phony language cultural preservation when in fact Quebec is totally assimilated to primarily American-Canadian culture as we all are. If other Canadian national federal politic parties are satisfied being backward culturally retarded to antics of Quebec, this makes federal politics in Canada dysfunctional and unable to cater to the real needs of this country. -
Is this not a foolish question when you know very well the Conservatives are operating as a minority government and are against Kyoto and have an agenda to improve the quality of air in cities, but opposition demands are contrary and pro-Kyoto. I think in a cold country like Canada Kyoto is not a viable alternative due to our already strained domestic economic situation, high taxes and the incredible amount owing on plastic is proof Canadians are broke. I doubt most Canadians can afford any more in new taxes along with further dire ramifications to the economy as a result of implementing Kyoto.

Muslim father chokes daughter to near death
Leafless replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Maybe followers of other religions don't go around the world blowing people up and severing off heads. Because in the country you are currently living in crimes are classified just as you quoted and are dealt with according to the crime and is not associated with terrorism as with Islam, which is why Muslims get the extra special attention, due to the amphasis on barbaric acts, associated with Muslims and Islam. -
Multiculturalism, Trudeau, Quebec & Landry
Leafless replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Oh, absolutely none at all, that is if your happy with Canada being a dysfunctional totalitarian state ruled by dictators as in a 'banana republic'. What significant policy decisions could you possibly be talking about that were not forcefully federally unilaterally imposed? Sounds like your happy with the level of democracy that exist in Canada. -

Faith cannot be applied to an atheist as faith applies to a belief in religious doctrines. To believe in a faith, you do not need proof to in the existence of God.
