You might also be English speaking that but does NOT apply to the definiton of 'francophone'. If you can speak English and French fluently, that makes you a bilingual French Canadian or simply a blingual person. I am not playing games with semantics and if anyone is, you are. You just refuse to understand and use words accordingly that apply to their meanings or definitions.
-
Not really. They are just trying to justify in a minuscule way, all they have raped from Ottawa and given to Quebec.
-
A real smart guy, you are! Now I know why federal leadership doesn't matter in Canada. Some Canadians just never noticed, nor care.
-
It is not only the portrait gallery, it is ALL of the combined federal entities that have been moved to other provinces, especially Quebec. Do you not find this disturbing? Ottawa federal status as National Capital of Canada is being diluted by arrogant PM's that have no respect for Ottawa as Canada's National Capital. I am not aware of any other Canadian city that is given the same rights as Ottawa to represent a national central location for the federal government and its federal entities.
-
I agree Higg. That is the whole idea Ottawa being the Capital of Canada and home to the Federal Government of Canada. Of course Mr. Harper is not the only PM in favour of decentralization, as Jean Chretien started this process with the bulk of federal entities that were to moved, mostly all moved to Quebec. Of course this is destroying the whole concept of central government by pandering to regional interest and also dilutes federal national authority as seen through the eyes of many Canadians. I feel it is totally wrong to uproot and distribute the assets of central government like candy, from its rightful place the nations capital, to whoever the PM of the day feel is deserving of these federal assets. To do this IMO is a form of traitorism especially when these federal assets go to a province with totally different political ideologies that fly in the face of federalism. This is destroying Ottawa as Capital of Canada also as a municipality and government town who has find new sources of income to compensate for the loss of so many federal public service jobs.

http://www.canada.com/topics/news/story.ht...cb0&k=81676 And to think Mr. Harper (selling out Canada's national capital Ottawa) is actually contributing to the delegation of power by central government to local or regional administration in what can be seen as nothing more than a cheap ploy to buy votes. Where is the federal national leadership Canada so desperately requires?

Third world countries and European countries are emotional misfits, that is what the problem is.

You are describing yourself wrongly. A francophone is someone who speaks French....period. Go have the federal government or Quebec change all the dictionary definitions in the world. You are a bilingual speaking Frenchman, a francophone only speaks French. Local government linguistic definitions relating to census data or federal employment means nothing when you are talking dictionary definitions that are accepted world wide as being linguistically correct. Wrong again. You are a Frenchman in Quebec and a francophone outside of Quebec or if you are capable of speaking the English language outside of Quebec, you are a bilingual Frenchman. The New Lexicon Websters Dictionary definition of a Francophone is " one who habitually speaks French while residing in an area where a different language is spoken. In your case if your mother tongue is French means you are French speaking...right.

We will use Dancer's definition of anglophone: That has got nothing to do with the word anglophone. A French speaking person in Quebec (primarily a French speaking province) would not be called a francophone but a Frenchman or Frenchwoman or simply French or French speaking person, who if they wish can learn English to their hearts content. But a Frenchman in a primarily English speaking province would be called a francophone. An English speaking person in in a primarily French speaking Quebec would be called an anglophone. An English speaking person in a primarily English speaking province would be called an Englishman or Englishwoman or simply English or English speaking, who if they wish can learn French to their hearts content. If you speak both languages English and French, you would be simply bilingual or a bilingual speaking person.
-
So, an Anglophone is someone whose native language is English...END OF STORY...there is no further definition relating to a bilingual Anglophone or anything else. That part is all in your head to justify that it is permissible to label an Anglophone a bilingual Anglophone. That person now becomes a bilingual person or simply bilingual, nothing more , nothing less. Stop trying to glorify the status of an Anglophone or Francophone by adding 'bilingual' to it, which is wrong by your own definition.
-
Perhaps you can try to explain yourself a little better rather than using cheap shot comments. Besides, I am not the one that goes around strangling people with piano wire. How do you like it? I am only here on a political level and not on a personal level, unlike Dancer who continually incorporates personal attacks to try to win political arguments and appease his believers of political correctness.
-
Knowledge of the other language is not what is important, it is speaking the other language. This in turn nullifies your Anglophone status. This is the whole part about being an Anglophone and that is you are uni-lingual English and cannot speak the other language. If you could you would be called what I said previously 'a bilingual person'. http://lsadc.org/info/ling-faqs-biling.cfm

Where does this prove what I said is wrong? BTW-INSULTS Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it). People who have a history of antagonistic behaviour will be treated more harshly than those who do not. Insults levelled at third-parties (companies, political parties, nationalities) are also forbidden in the forums.
-
It is not a question of being to far advanced for me, it is simply you are using incorrect linguistic terminology. A bilingual Anglophone nullifies the definition of an Anglophone and that is what we are talking about an Anglophone. The linguistic terminology you are groping for, rather than use your incorrect terminology a (bilingual Anglophone) is simply a person who is bilingual, a bilingual person. Mulroney is a bilingual person or a person that is bilingual.

What sort of patriotic feelings does the maple leaf flag induce outside of the fact , yes, maple trees do grow in Canada and virtually leaves the importance of the nation and its provinces unattended. The maple leaf flag lacks character and IMO is more representative of a cartoon drawing of a maple leaf rather than providing the character and historical importance of the nation.

Quebec anglo students denounce discrimination
Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The federal government is the power that extends the use of the 'notwithstanding clause' no one else. The excuse Quebec has been giving since initiating the use of the 'notwithstanding clause' is that their (French) language is in peril. What does this mean in real terms I do not know, as all statistics show French in Quebec is alive and well. It is disturbing to note that the federal government allows Quebec continual renewal of the 'notwithstanding clause' to oppress and discriminate against non-French Canadians. It is obvious federalism is not working in Canada for this type abuse and discrimination to continue and that the system is dysfunctional and caused by Canada's INABILITY, NOT to allow at the same time, two clashing political ideologies to dominate Canada's political fabric, thus nullifying Charter rights that are suppose to be applicable to all Canadians. -
I think it as it a proper flag from a country that gave us this great land 'Canada'. The Ensign did represent the provinces: http://www.canadianheritage.gc.ca/progs/cp...sc-cs/df5_e.cfm It is easy to see the feds did not have the fortitude to implement the Red Ensign as Canada's national flag under pressure from Quebec who did not like or want anything British, thus the pressure for a new design to appease Quebec but really didn't help any.

What we are talking about bambino is the fact Quebec who did not sign the 'Charter of Rights and Freedoms' and that Quebec on December 21, 1989 the Premier of the Province of Quebec employed the "notwithstanding clause" to override freedom of expression (section 2b), and freedom of equality (section 15) and have been renewing this 'notwithstanding clause' every five years (with NO federal intervention) to enforce its oppressive language legislation in Bill-101 also known as 'Quebec's French Charter'. Mulroney was no Anglophone, in the strict sense, but a bilingual Quebecer from Baie Comeau who failed to impress his Quebec Lieutenant Lucien Bouchard with the Failure of passing the Meech Lake Accord. Bouchard BUSTED Mulroney in the following election: http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_zolf/20031020.html Hey, Bouchard showed Mulroney, hey, you can't play around with Quebecers.

Quebec benefiting from federal transfer payments is not only Leafless's only contention, but only a single one. Can you read, as there are many more. Dramatic words from someone who has contributed nothing to this thread but is one to agree (for whatever reason) Dancers twisted diatribe. As a matter of fact I view Dancer as the one unclothed and battered, who stands up for an arrogant, violent people unworthy of any type of respect and who leech of off the federal government and the tax payers of Canada to support to support their UNFOUNDED QUEBEC STYLE NATIONALISM robbing Canadians of their rightful place in Canada as the only legal entity as masters of their own country. Tolerance is nothing but moral relativism that has no standards. One who believes in tolerance is one that has little or no intelligence to separate FACT from FICTION.

What is so great about an RMC clone? Where is the originality? Where is it shown it represents Canada's provinces? It doesn't because that would only further offend Quebec that it is nothing more than a mere province in Canada. You can call the Maple Leaf flag whatever you wish. I call it an insult to Canada and in no way does it indicate a united Canada or our historical ties to the British empire and is just another failed excuse to appease Quebec. As a matter of EITHER the Union Jack or the Red Ensign suits me fine as it would millions of other Canadians who used either one or the other of these two fine flags, onward from 1902-1965.

http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...9ae&k=92680 This further proof that the federal government continues to ignore the rights of other non- French Canadians in Quebec. It should be clear to the federal government at this time that Quebec has no desire to abide by Charter laws as it still refuses to sign the Constitution of Canada, which indicates Quebec is making a 'fool of Canadian laws' by abusing the 'notwithstanding clause' and the federal government lacks the incentive to amend the Constitution and to lay down the law and put Quebec in its place.
