  1. SamStranger You wrote- " but I am soooo against SSM that it's not even funny" The bastardization of the institution of marriage could be considered a crime and I don't think that's soooo funny.
  2. Since my Conservative candidate John Baird supports SSM, I will be voting for my idependent candidate who does not support this concept. I will not vote for any party that publicly promotes the bastardization of the institute of marriage.
  3. Betsy You wrote- " All these for just expressing my views " This shows the contempt and hatred towards a party that somehow might undue the work of years of poor weak corrupt leadership that as removed the ingredients necessary for a fair, just society one free of personal goals to one concentrating on a united Canada with the type of leadership that is applicable to everyone, everywhere. Let's only hope that the voters of Canada will see the light and vote Conservative while there still time left to save Canada from what many see as the road to destruction and the end to Canada as we know it.
  4. Drea Concerning log exports: http://www.timberwest.com/content/pdf/Log_..._Fact_Sheet.pdf
  5. Argus Moinority or majority whether one is better than the other, I think is not the issue at this time. In my opinion majority's doesn't always fit the bill as with the case of Jean Chretien's majority governments and what did he really accomplish? Majority dependes on the goals and idea's of a particular government with some that are publicly perceived as good and some that are bad and some don't even fit the description of national goals and actually fall into the catergory of a secretive closed door federal government with an unknown agenda. I think Mr. Harper's is actually better off with a minority government for the time being as his hands will be tied in certain areas regardless.
  6. BubberMiley You wrote- " In matters of conscience, the law of the majority has no place."- Mahatma Gandhi I believe you are living in the wrong country for someone who believes in secularism and equaltarianism. Even Mahatma Gandhi and his quotes are not entirely original and therefore hypocritical as they were based on Hindu beliefs a religion he was critical of. I really don't know what country would best suit your political aspirations, do you?
  7. arif You wrote- " Season's greetings does not demean Christianity" When combined with politcal correctness it certaintly does. Fact in matter- I went into my local "card specialty store" looking for good buys on Christmas cards for next Christmas. There were hundreds of cards but not one reading "Merry Christmas" or in fact "Happy New Year". This means arif there is in fact a war on Christianity, one that has been successful with speciality card manufacturers to exclude "Merry Christmas" or "Happy New Years." This is the FIRST year I have encountered this although I did experience problems obtaining these cards in the past but nevertheless obtained them. It should be noted Canada is a free country and these imposed restrictions (basically propagated by the Liberal government) concerning there definiton of what is morally or ethically accepted crosses the line and removes my right to access of written material that I should not be denied access to. My religion is my buisness and your religion is your buisness. If there are more Christians in Canada than non christians --to bad, as these products Cristmas cards are supplied according to demand and as far as I know all or most Christian denominations desire them. Your problem arif is with manufacturers. If you feel left out concerning matters of your own faith or whatever contact manufacturers and explain what you would like.
  8. Drea Why there is no tariff on raw logs? There is a reasonable article on this that was printed originally in the Vancouver Sun. It states log exports are already restricted from private forestland in B.C. Before private forest owners can export any logs they must first offer them for sale in B.C. at domestic prices which are substantially lower than what international customers pay. Only if there is no buyer in B.C. can a private forest landowner then sell logs outside of the country. this restriction by the feds only in B.C. and not to private forest owners in any other province. Log exports keep people working. We receive a substatial price premium when we sell logs to Japan and the U.S. If we were not able to sell logs at that premium, we wouldn't be able to log many stands at all. That would put 2,000 loggers out of work, but would impact sawmill jobs as well since the majority of our logs go to BC mills. In an average coastal stand only 30% of the logs harvested are exported, the other 70% stay in B.C. The U.S exports at least fout times as many logs to Canada as it imports to Canada. B.C. has been a net importer of logs in three of the past seven years. If we impose a tax on log exports, the U.S. may do the same to their log exports and many Canadian producers that rely on U.S. logs may be worse off. Exporting some logs for a premium means we are able to get the highest return for our resource and put the logs to to their highest value use. Many logs that go to the U.S. are small second groeth logs that B.C. sawmills are not configured to process. If the logs stayed in B.B they would be chipped for pulp. The bottom line on taxing logs is we lose jobs.
  9. Canuck E stan You wrote- " How right are the uni.ca people on their report card when it comes to unity." Not very right. Unity is a word that is totally unachievable in this country for many reasons. The ratings uni.ca gave our leaders reflects personal opinion only as there is no true gauge to judge this as political motivations can distort accomplishments towards any type of goal towards politcal unity. Quebec is the only one really in the positon to create unity . Their political expectations concerning their demands on the ROC have been unrealistic as they place a tremendous amount of unattainable self importance concerning their goals.
  10. I have heard talk show host admit they regularly cruise discussion sites for facts and idea's. I have read editorials with closely resembled articles that we have posted here. In turn I would definitely say political discussion groups have an impact on current election.
  11. I can't help but wonder if it was an accident that five of the nine Supreme Court judges are from Quebec. No, of course not Liberals would not ever want to politicize or influence decissions coming from our Supreme Court possibly favouring Quebec ideologies.
  12. arif You wrote- " Im bringing it up because it's why some conservatives scare people." What the hell does this have to do with being a Conservative? People like you scare me!
  13. Drea You wrote- " I'd like to read your link Leafless" Sure- http://www.sprol.com/?p=171 http://www.ran.org/news/newsitem.php?id=58&area=oldgrowth
  14. Sparhawk You wrote-"Demand for most wood products has shot through the roof thanks to the hurricanes and the Iraq war." Good, now that you say Canada has found a new source of wealth for lumber it will save me the time of posting links to prove you were wrong concering Canada's growing inability to compete in the lumber industry.
  15. Sparhawk You wrote- " It is a bit like claiming Chinese products are subsidized because the cost of labour is much less in China." Not really Sparhawk. Lumber harvested off of Crown land as compared to private land cost of acquiring the same product is in fact the same as being subsidized by government. Admit it, Canada is no longer competitive in certain areas of forest products because of lower demand especially for newsprint, plywood and veneer. Your Chinese philosphy is really a double edge sword as their are many foreign factories in China thus capitalizing as a private foreign owned manufacturing facility but using Chinese labour. This is not the same as a fully owned Chinese manufacturing facility but is slowly changing in that direction.
  16. I wonder if this will have any effect on Canada's immigration policies? Liberals are a bunch of MORONS.
  17. Stress is a factor in this election especially as in my case I support Conservative policies but my candidate supports SSM which in fact I don't. Therefore I will not be voting Conservative or perhaps not voting at all.
  18. There have been many movies made concerning serial killers based on actual events. In the U.S with a lot larger population than Canada, there have been many horrific murders involving and rapes murders of school children but as far as I know very few movies made concerning these events. Moralistically I draw the line concerning the production of movies exploiting the deaths of children at the hands of very deranged individuals and Karla would definitely be one of them. I would not watch this movie period.
  19. This is going to be a Conservative majority. I can small it in the air as I pass the Liberal washrooms on parliament hill.
  20. The U.I. unemployment rate is calculated from those receiving unemployment insurance benefits only. After your benefits run out you are no longer an unemployed statistic. What is the REAL level of the unemployed in Canada- No one really knows for sure or obviously cares!!!
  21. America1 You wrote- " Didn't the WTO rule in favour of the U.S." The lower single digit percentage what softwood lumber represents compared to total trade with the U.S. makes this a non-issue in my mind. No matter how you look at it Canadian softwood lumber is being subsidized. The road issue I can not see as a valid point as these roads are the cheapest roads possibly constructed. Maybe B.C. should consider building finished or partially finished wood manufactured products like pre-fab housing, roof trusses, furniture or whatever the main usage is for Canadian lumber in the U.S.
  22. YankAbroad You wrote- " It shouldn't be democratically debating removing or depriving rights from any permanent minority of law abiding citizen's." Maybe you don't understand what the real issue is in Canada concerning SSM. That issue is concerning the word "marriage" and whether it is applicable to gays concerning the traditional definiton which marriage is only applicable between a man and a woman. NO ONE ever did ban gays being married it's just that they have to abide by the rules of society like everyone else and marry a person of the opposite sex. But alternatives would have been offered concerning important concessions involving basically benefits and this was rejected at the time and the rest is history. It is still a controversial issue one in which the gays simply don't recognize they ARE NOT heterosexual when it comes to marriage.
  23. Many movies have been made concerning a long line of serial killers under many different titles but is this one any different in the way of exploiting, hollywood style, true life events of infamous people concentrating on their acts of extreme violence with little or no regard for their victims? Now that the movie Karla is out on the big screen concerning the story of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka and the horrible series of events that happened right here in Canada , would you pay to watch it or would you watch it at all, even for free?
  24. thelionus You wrote- " It seems Roman Catholics have a choice as to where there property taxes can go" It also says on the census form under the title- "Why is your support important" and that indeed it is a publicly funded Catholic school system. I think Bill-160 introduced in 1997 has something to do with the funding formula. Anyways all other statements on the census form relating to Catholic school funding is simply to acquire numbers that in turn are applied to the public funding formula. The bottom line on this one is like I said official multiculturalism could have a severe impact on denominational schools in Ontario with no one to blame initially but the federal Liberals. It is uncomprehensible to see our previous rights severley threatened by immigration and Charter rights and by a province like Quebec who seems can discriminate against English speaking and get away itself from not adehering to Charter rights but benefits greatly even though it never signed the Charter.
  25. Dumb remark of the day-- By Mr. Martin in Strathroy Ontario again insisting we are a nation of minorities. How utterly insulting. I guess to the Liberals we are a no name country with no history and that is why Liberals like to pretend we are a communist country in a democratic society, a society that can only be led by the Liberals. What crapolla!
