  1. Why the NDP should not win: 1) They call for no new army funding. 2) They call for socialist economic policy. 3) They have no interest in preserving any morality in our society. I am not saying the NDP should go find its Tony Blair as the economist said, I am simply saying we have a party of the right (Conservative), centre (Liberal), and far left (NDP). When they become more centre-left, I will consider giving them my vote.
  2. While certainly filled with anti-Liberal rambling, it is hard not to find much truth in it.
  3. Yes and no...what is true is that Toronto has benefitted from Montreal's loss...
  4. Private labs, x-ray clinics and other such institutions that exist across the country are private and services paid for by government. Think of physicians, almost all of whom are self-employed professionals operating what amounts to independent small businesses. Think of hospitals, for that matter, almost none of which are government-owned. Furthermore, any hospital that contracts out its laundry, housekeeping or cafeteria services is channelling public funds into private sector service delivery in the health care sector. Abortion clinics are private [Morganthaler] and services paid for by the federal government. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Where a hospital or clinic does not have its own X-RAY machine, it has to pay for private services. However, the NDP push is not to expand private services that can be or already are provided in the public system. We should be making our public service the best it can be. Public health-care is less expensive than paying for a profit-making venture, and therefore, we can get more, better health-care for our own money if we invest our public system rather than a parallel private one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But we already have a parallel system and have had for donkey's years - does Layton plan on closing them? Frankly, I do not believe Layton has a plan only a lot of talk. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He doesn't have to worry much about it...
  5. I think you've got the right take on this. The Liberals should quote this story non-stop for the next two months, if they want to smear Harper. It's no secret that I'm a fan of America and I've supported many of GWB's leadership decisions, but I'm a realist about how the average Canadian feels about Bush. This article plays right into the Liberals hands. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I still argue there are too many inaccuracies in it. I also get a suspicious feel about it...
  6. I do not believe the number is that low (somebody please tell the Liberals ) But seriously, I just don't
  7. Even with the poll tied 31-31 I have to stay with my prediction for NOW. With the country in the precarious minority situation it is in now, many potential NDP voters will poll with the NDP NOW. Yet, if an election were held tomorrow they would switch to Liberal. With the poll tied or with a 2-3 point Conservative lead, this will still translate into a Liberal minority. Giving the NDP 25 seats was probably a bit generous. I think the Conservatives will make in roads in Ontario, but I still see nothing in Quebec or the territories. Landslide Annie may just get knocked off. With Harper this close, she just may. The Liberals will retain their stronghold on the Maritimes and make inroads in BC. Harper would need a consistent 5-6 point lead in Part II (January) of the campaign for him to pull off a minority. Again, this is my POV... We will look forward to the debate...
  8. Normie, On trying to make some kind of stupid insinuation with this topic you're dying by the minute. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed, I think this has become a silly attempt to discredit the CPC...
  9. If an election were held tomorrow, here are my predictions: NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR: Liberal: 5 Conservative: 2 PEI: Liberal: 4 NOVA SCOTIA: Liberal: 5 NDP: 3 Conservatives: 3 NEW BRUNSWICK: Liberal: 7 NDP: 1 Conservative: 2 QUEBEC: Bloc: 58 Liberals: 17 ONTARIO: Liberal: 63 Conservatives: 33 NDP: 10 MANITOBA: Conservatives: 8 NDP:4 Liberals: 2 SASKATCHEWAN: Conservatives: 13 Liberals: 1 ALBERTA: Conservatives: 28 BC: Conservatives: 17 Liberals: 12 NDP: 7 YUKON/NW TERRITORIES/NUNAVUT: Liberal: 3 LIBERAL PARTY: 119 CONSERVATIVE PARTY: 106 BLOC: 058 NDP: 025 Those should match... REMEMBER I will change this as the election carries on...
  10. Cool, It will be interesting to see how our predictions change as the election goes along...
  11. Yes you were, I am relatively new to this forum (I joined a few months ago) but I seem to remember you as a different name...am I right??? Yup... Kanada Dry... ...I just had it changed. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought so... Welcome back!!!
  12. Good stuff...
  13. Yes you were, I am relatively new to this forum (I joined a few months ago) but I seem to remember you as a different name...am I right???
  14. Agreed August. We need, as I believe I mentioned, to get back to sharing the resources that belong to all Canadians and Americans and that includes having an enlightened, non-political debate on this issue.
  15. Probably but if so they haven't read the Canada Senate Special Committee Report on Illegal Drugs. That committee was chaired by a Conservative Senator and concluded that marijuana was not a gateway drug and that marijuana should be legalized. See: http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=5285 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I support marijuana decriminalization, although it will not be the defining issue when I officially endorse a candidate in January...
  16. http://www.sciencedaily.com/upi/?feed=TopN...tain-tories.xml Although Blair won't run again and the UK election is far off, this is an interesting result. The UK Tories have a fresh, young leader who--although no iron gentlemen--looks like he may add some flair to Britain's electoral scene and challenge Blair's successor (Gordon Brown?) Good to see the British have a more exciting Parliament than we do...
  17. If so, Harper hasn't said so. I prefer the theory that they merely oppose any move away from what's traditional. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That too but they have also got to believe the gateway drug stuff (most Conservatives do...)
  18. The NEP was about keeping your friends close and your enemy's resources closer!!!
  19. Yeah, that was a bad one. Let's not forget about the flashing X over VP Cheney a couple of weeks ago on CNN. Apparently is was just a "malfunction". Sort of like the one Janet Jackson had I guess. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I do remember that Shady... I don't remember those accidents happening under Clinton...
  20. McKenna? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Potentially or John Manley for that manner... As for joual, It is a working class francophone language...but I don't know why it would be spoken by a Western CPC MP. As for you Shoop, while I do not know what university you attend (you said class, I assume you meant university), but I am sure no one judges you based on being from Western Canada originally.
  21. Leafless, Remember when we had a disagreement a while back (I don't remember why but I remember calling you brainless...sorry ) That post pretty much reflected everything I wanted to say but couldn't get out... Thank you...that you very much...
  22. I could see Belinda or Brison trying to run for Liberal leadership...who would I like best for Liberal leader post-Martin??? I dunno. I always like Martin Cauchon though...
  23. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Art...siness/Canadian Now let's resolve this and get back to the business of providing Canadians with the best this continent's resources has to offer.
  24. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If Harper is saying something and doing something about softwood lumber, please provide the evidence. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I just looked at James Moore's website. He looks like a good candidate but, as a former Alliance guy, I don't know if he would be attractive here in the East anymore than Harper...
  25. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Belinda may go back to the CPC Seriously though she is attractive...but I am not so sure as a candidate...
