Which MP Would You Most Like To See Lose Their Sea
tml12 replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wouldn't mind if my MP loses... Not only does she not live here but half the people who live in my apartment don't even know her...plus she is an invisible Cabinet Minister. Everyone knows Dion, Pettigrew, and Lapierre but no one knows her!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is one of the other reasons I may vote Conservative...my Conservative challenger was (and is until 31 Dec.) my member of City Hall and she lives very close to me. She also cares about the riding and will put more of a face on it!!! -

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because I sincerely believe that CPC can do better than Harper or MacKay by choosing one of their other current MPs. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Like... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> James Moore. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OK I'll do a little research...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course but many Canadians seem to believe that closer ties to the U.S. means they'll take over. Seriously, when are we going to wake up and realize we have nothing to lose by being a LITTLE bit cordial???

Lessee.... the prodigal son returns home to repent after his dubious ventures out into the wider world, and the father celebrates his return by killing the fatted calf for a feast. The loyal son becomes jealous: he stayed home and worked while his brother was away pursuing folly, so why no feast in *his* honor? He mockingly calls his brother "this, thy son." "This, thy brother," the father reminds him. The story is about forgiveness, and also leads us to ask which one is *really* the prodigal son: the one who has come home to repent his errors, or the one who is envious of the welcome given his brother? The loyal son, in truth, seems quite distant from his father's generous and forgiving spirit: perhaps he is actually the one who has strayed? Nonetheless, I'm not exactly sure what this actually has to do with the Progressive Conservative/ Canadian Alliance merger. -k <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know Kimmy...I just don't like her. She seems arrogant and quite appalingly boring. My friends in her riding in Edmonton despise her. They say her losing would be fantastic. They also say a lot of Conservatives in her riding vote for her because they think the Liberals are going to win anyway and they want Alberta represented in government. I think (see my National Representation post) that if the CPC could get her riding the Liberals would NOT be able to play the national unity card so easily anymore if they get knocked out of Alberta. -
I think that is a very accurate and telling post.

Merry belated Christmas Mr. President

MY COMMENTS: 1) The Washington Times is a VERY right-wing paper. I was in DC on business (and I think that Shoop said he lived in DC at one time) a few weeks back and when I started reading the editorials (oh man...) 2) No way a Martin majority government is centre-left. It would be socially moderate and economically right for sure. And U.S. relations? Same as with Harper. 3) I think that a Harper government would not be all that "scary." I think Harper understands, like Blair and Bush, that the system of government in Canada needs to be changed to bring in free enterprise. 4) If I vote for Harper, it will be because we need to stop the spread of protectionism and socialism and corruption present in Canada today and give way to a leader who will be moral, sensible, and strong. -
This is a dumb idea - Canada does not ship enough oil to affect the world price so it would just hurt Canadian oil producers. Canada could affect the natural gas prices but it would be dumb to simply impose a tax. A better approach would impose export quotas that caused the price to rise. The higher prices would offset the losses incurred by suppliers. The fact that imposing export quotas would violate the FTA is good because it would serve to remind Americans that they do benefit from NAFTA - the WTO would not prevent Canada from manipulating the market like that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are they serious? And yeah you are right Sparhawk... On juice and other things yes, but the NDP has got to know they are going to lose this battle...

Canada a bigger terrorist threat than Mexico...

Innocent people are killed by drunk drivers all of the time. I don't have the stats but it would not surprise me if the number of innocent people killed by drunk drivers exeeds the number killed by terrorist attacks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am not saying you guys are wrong, all I am saying is I think we should worry much more about al-Qaeda entering our borders than cigarettes and whiskey...even guns moreson -

Not a chance. We've nothing to offer. As well, most Canadians would oppose such a course of action. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Again, agreed. -

LEAFLESS WROTE--"If your not sure about the health or lifestyles of your partner -don't have sex-period." AGREED AGREED AGREED. And if you screw around and you KNOW you have HIV you should go to jail for LIFE.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> CPC will also have time because of a new Liberal leadership race, plus the Bloc will side with any provincial rights motions.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yup it is, it is more red tory than Alliance, like its been said, the CPC is liberal lite now. I've read these misconception before and nobody actually reads the darned thing. Too bad these people who spread untruths around should read the proposed policy documents and what was passed and what was turned down. I used to read all kinds of strange accusations and myths on the old 50plus forums, most if it rarely was based on fact and current issues. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't think people agree with this because they think Harper is going Liberal lite to get elected. I am not sure what I believe that government can't go on like this for much longer... -
Aid Group blames U.S. U.K. for Abductions
tml12 replied to scribblet's topic in The Rest of the World
Well, let's face it; these people aren't there because they're geniuses. Hands up all who really give a damn about them. I see Martin making stern pronouncements on this issue, faithfully quoted by the idiots in media. "You can rest assured that we are doing everything in our power to bring these men home." Uh, like what? Well, nothing, actually. There isn't a damn thing we can do. We have no embassy in Iraq and no contacts there. Of course, you can't go on TV and say that. Not good optics, y'know. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Totally agreed. -
What in the world does 'socially intolerant' mean to you? Because I don't think you mean anti-social, which is actually what it means. The CPC may be to the right of the other parties but notice how they poll above all the parties save one by 4 points( which is within the margin of error) Oh, so now you think that a policy needs to only be supported by a majority of Canadians to be right? Perhaps we should take another look at gay marriage. You are all over the map. You're like a socialistic green conservative! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Libertarian might be the best definition

I sooooo beg to differ on that. How many people are killed in DUI related car accidents in North America each single year? How many people have cancer from smoking? Al-Queda has nothing on those two. We are not responsible for secureing the border. The US is. IF they want to keep the assholes out, then let THEM take care of it. Yes that lady was shrugged right off. But no one seems to listen to common sense down there. But that is me. The Canadian Anti-American. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You must foster classy debate. Alcohol and tobacco are deadly...but not as much as al-Qaeda. They kill innocent people...you know what you are getting into if you drink in excess and smoke. -
<{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's true. At least they are realizing they just can't get rid of it.
