  1. Sure tell the Americans to STFU, but there is a difference when the militia goes after the offending party and when they go after anyone who happens to be a citizen. I believe in freedom of speech, but to me freedom of speech has consequences like what is currently happening which means that you have to be ready for the consequences when you open your mouth or commit to action. In this case this freak is using his freedom of speech knowing very well that people will die, people who have nothing to do with the offending action except for a shared nationality and sometimes not even that. To me if he wants to be free to do as he pleases he should put himself in danger rather then shoot off his mouth and do stupid actions knowing that they will draw a violent reaction while hiding in the US and letting others die for his opinions. I wonder if this will still be your position if I do something of this sort and your children died, having nothing in common with me but say a citizenship. And lets say I did this as a publicity stunt, in order to keep in the news and get some financial benefit out of the deal. Whenever I say something or do something I stand behind it. If my words or actions are offensive to someone I will take responsibility for them and will take whatever consequences come from said actions or words. What I find disgusting is when somebody speaks or acts in a certain manner and lets someone else suffer for their actions or words. If you want to express yourself by burning the Koran, by all means do so but do so in the ME where you and only you will suffer rather than doing it from the safety of the US others will suffer for your actions. No one is saying that people should not express themselves, I am saying he should do so while in the ME so that he could be killed for his words and actions rather than getting innocent people to die so he could "prove a point". What demands? Right now the problem arises from this freak and his group of merry men creating and promoting a video which is their right but then letting others die for their rights. I was reading somewhere that the guy who produced the video is in hiding... so its good enough to make a video and let people who have nothing to do with his video die, but when it comes to his worthless life suddenly its time to hide... My issue is not to prevent them from speaking their mind, my issue is that when they speak their mind they knowingly endanger other people while hiding in the US in order to protect themselves. Freedom comes with a price, in this case the price is the lives of people who have nothing to do with this issue except that they might share a citizenship with him. As you so kindly said, Freedom is not free; freedom does come with a price. In this case this guy and his friends are only willing to accept the price of freedom only because someone else is paying for it with their life.
  2. If the Americans in your scenario were known to have a history of violence then I would say the Canadians would share a portion of the blame. In this case the Pastor and his supporters commit the action in the hope of getting a response, in no way are the people doing the killing innocent but neither is the person who intentionally stirring the pot just to get a response. The fact is this idiot is instigating the situation for his own personal gain. He feels that he has the right to say and do anything to express his views, even if it will mean someone else will have to die. He is playing god with somebody else's life knowing full well that his actions would cause a violent reaction which would cause death to Americans in particular or failing to find Americans the death of any Westerners.
  3. Whatever happens, and whatever the US does they will always be the bad guy 100%. If Iran gets a weapon and decides to nuke Israel they will be blamed for not stopping or preventing it. If the US decides to prevent Iran from getting such a weapon they will be the warmonger who goes after the peaceful and innocent nation of Iran.
  4. They killed the ambassador I think sending marines is more than warranted in this situation. I would say pulling out their people altogether might be a better idea but either way they are right.
  5. If we take the money that the federal government must spend on the provinces as you kindly pointed out and we subtract it from the money that Quebec's tax payers invest in the federal government it should be about even THEN you add the equalization payments which mean that ALL spending ON and IN Quebec exceeds the money taken in the form of taxes and other sources of income for the federal government from the Province of Quebec. Exactly, lower tuition, 7 dollars a day daycare... Once again, the fault lies in Quebec when a sizeable chunk of Quebecers decide that they will complain about how unfairly they are treated and how they are being screwed by the rest of us. My problem lies in the fact that no matter what the ROC does, or how much money we invest in Quebec they will always complain about being screwed by the rest of us...or at least a portion of the Provincial population. What provinces have seats in international organizations? And what are the so obvious reasons to require Quebec to have embassies overseas and direct control over immigration? They have no more reason to have control over immigration and their own embassies then Ontario or Alberta yet they do. Nope, I have seen enough on the subject to know that this is the position of the separatists, they were trying to get more votes in 1995 by promising that even if Quebec separates Quebecers will still get to keep their Canadian citizenship, keep the Canadian currency, automatically join the same organizations that Canada belongs to... and the best one was people in industries protected by the Federal government being prop separatists which leads me to believe that they did not think things through since the assumption would be that Canada would protect Quebec's industries even if Quebec is independent. Yeah but tell that to the western provinces... Separatist cry and whine about being screwed over by the ROC, not getting their fair share. So it went from they don't use it for education to it doesn't matter what they use it for? And then when all other accounts are settled we have the equalization payments, which means that they get a nice chunk of change to play with, they get more than BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Equalization payments make roughly 10% of their budget which means that Canadians from the "have" provinces are supporting Quebec which is a "have not" province but at the same time has better services than the "have" provinces. See sovereignty at least to me does not mean superiority because they will quickly see the difference between living as part of a stable prosperous nation and as an independent third world nation. I am all for Quebec getting independence, it will once and for all solve the problem when they realize the grass most definitely is not greener on the other side. For me the issue is the attitude of the separatists who see their language and culture as far superior than the rest of us, the belief that they should be equal to the ROC and should have an equal voice even though they are 8million compared to 26million from the ROC. No, it does not. But then again my issue is not separatist wanting independence, I am all for Quebec getting their independence. My issue is them wanting independence as part of Canada and and their attitude that their language and culture are far superior than the culture and language of the ROC. So is it your opinion that equalization payments come out of the pocket of Quebecers 100%? GDP per capita, they are 4th from the bottom. And dropping since 2010. Is the reason for the "have not" provinces to provide better services than the "have" provinces at the expense of the "have" provinces? If you read in to their $7/day daycare you would understand that without the ROC they would not have managed to provide that service and it is fiscally irresponsible for the ROC to even think about it unless the US wants to sponsor the ROC like the ROC sponsored Quebec. Read up on the program and tell me if it is a responsible decision and if it pays of in 200 years. It is assistance when they are the company with less experience and a higher cost... any normal business would have chosen the company with more experience and lower cost but when Quebec cries out the Federal government has the screw the ROC to oblige. Yeah but the one that is better is not necessarily the one they choose. It will not count as assistance if they choose the best offer, it counts as assistance if they overlook the best offer in favour of making Quebec happy. It most certainly does, Quebec says it is not getting its fair share of contracts and the Federal government trips over themselves to give them contracts. You keep saying that the Equalizations payments did not pay for the post-secondary education or the other services, then you promptly back away from your own comments. I want you to explain to me since I want to see how you understand the equalization payments. Federal government contracts, a few years ago the CF purchased new transport planes, and Quebec was complaining that they didn't get a portion of the maintenance contract even though they did not provide the best offer. They want more federal contracts, they want more independence yet I haven't heard a separatist offer to stop taking the equalization payments. And does that make the lives of the people of Ontario so much better? Significant difference between getting money for better services and an ill-thoughout plan to improve the flow of goods and services. Good for him, that sure as help helps kids all over ontario pay for their tuition. Pretty hard to give them to Manitoba don't you think? Yeah, they did get it even though they were in a competition with a company that offered a lower price and had more experience in industry. They received that contract 100% based on regional politics.
  6. You don't think that Israel has thought of that already?I suspect they have retaliation plans ready.
  7. And we should send him to Libya in order explain himself, no need to for innocent people to die for his 15min of fame.
  8. This is BS, when all is added up the funds they send to the Federal government is about I believe 11-13 billion less than what they receive. You keep saying they receive far less than they give the government but that is bullsh*t. Yes equalization payments do go toward the services, without the equalization payment Quebec's budget will be much smaller budget = less services...smaller budget != more services. Immigration, embassies in other countries, and a seat in some international organization...need I go on? 1) Look above, and 2) I'm pretty sure that most separatists are fighting for independence within Canada so that they can have the best of both worlds. Sure they do, equalization payments, constantly favoring Quebec companies for contracts and many crown corporations have their HQ in Montreal to please Quebecers. Listen, I don’t care if it is unfair, my issue is with them consistently whining and crying about how hard done they are by the ROC while they get better services BECAUSE of the ROC. Ok, what do they use equalization payments for? Explain it to me if they don’t use it as part of the budget what do they sue the payments for? Do they burn the money? Irrelevant, they get money they get more than their fair share and still complain about not getting more. But they are complaining that they are not operating by a different standard...the complaints I'm hearing is that they are "just" another province and deserve to be a nation even though they have not shown capable of standing on their own 2 feet over the last 50 years so I can’t see where they get that attitude of superiority. Where did they get the money from? And one of the lowest income per capita in Canada so I doubt it comes from there. So you are saying that should the Federal government remove equalization payments tomorrow, they will be able to maintain their programs in the long run? Without help from the ROC... the ROC paid for their services, who is going to pay for the same level of services for the ROC? Quebec? Equalization payments=money they get from the federal government. Assistance=Every time they cry, the Federal government gives them a new contract. No, giving them special treatment and preference when it comes to federal contracts counts as assistance. CF-18 maintenance contract anyone? Explain it to me if you are so well educated on the subject...all I am reading here is you repeating that the equalization payments don’t pay for services which is 100% bullshit. Again, you seem to ignore that most people criticize Quebec not for the equalization payments, but because they always have their hand out to beg/demand more while complaining how they are getting screwed. Once again my issue is with Quebec complaining about not getting ENOUGH and always getting SCREWED by the ROC rather than the payments themselves.
  9. Yeah but as of this moment, not only does the US have the stingiest military in the world but their navy is more powerful then all of their enemies combined. As well the Mongol Empire never had the ability to blow up the entire world.
  10. It might be some sort of strategy for al Qaeda but for the Taliban it most likely it is not so. In Afghanistan the Taliban are well aware that give enough casualties to the western powers and they would soon enough pick up and leave. There is a financial aspect to it, but considering that now every dead NATO soldier has a face and is not just a number in the news paper as well as seeing more unclose and personal coverage of the war people are becoming more averse to casualties. I don't think the US will reach their financial breaking point before they reach their casualty limit.
  11. Quebec is getting subsidized by the rest of Canada in the form of Equalization payments which alleviate many of their financial problems and allow them to offer services to the people of Quebec that are not really fiscally an option in the rest of Canada. Instead of getting equalization payments to boost them to the level of the "have" provinces which until recently included Ontario, they receive equalization payments which boosts them to well above the standard enjoyed by any other province in affordable day care and post-secondary school. As a province they have much more independence and freedom compared to any other province, but many in Quebec still see themselves as being oppressed by English Canada. For example the financial assistance from the federal government in the form of equalization payments made it possible for Quebec to introduce $7/day day care which would have been unlikely without equalization payments and is unlikely in the rest of Canada. Because I think that at this moment, Alberta might be getting some political assistance in order to further develop their economy, but there is the difference, Alberta is getting assistance from the federal government politically and economically to become more productive while Quebec gets financial assistance to improve their services while complaining about the big bad Anglophones. Right now, Politically I would say Alberta.
  12. For all intents and purposes the war ended in 1760, between 1760 and 1763 the war was concentrated outside of the continent of North America. Until well in to the war of independence the 13 Colonies were still hoping for the British to agree and give them representation in London as well as their other demands. Independence came about as a result of stupid British decisions that forced the hand of the colonies, the anger at the British started in 1760 first with the treatment of the French , then in 1763 when the proclamation was made by King George so it was by no means a happy relationship but up until the first shot was fired they were unhappy but loyal as they wanted to remain as part of the British Empire.
  13. From what I have read, it did not go down hill that fast. It seems that it went sour over the next 15 years as the 13 Colonies were not interested in independence until sometime after the war had started. Although in 1765 the situation was far from good, they were still loyal to the crown.
  14. I don't really care about the transfer, what pisses me off is that Quebec gets a much better deal then pretty much any other province and still has the nerve to whine and complain about being screwed over. The entitled bunch of children who rioted for so long because of a mild tuition hike cried about the "abuse" that english Canada heaps on them all the while they enjoy graduating with almost non-existent loans. My one year of university with books would cover 4 years in Quebec including books, yet they are screwed over. I send my kids to day care, I am getting robbed, yet in Quebec they pay 7 dollars a day. They either shut up and live in peace, or lose the benefits they are getting and end up having to live like the rest of us.
  15. Except the lack of money to do so. It helps if the have not provinces get financial support from the federal government at the expense of the people who live in the "have" provinces. So what? If the government is in a hole as it is what can they do to lower tuition? I am well acquainted with this point as I am still paying off student loans. Yes, and students pay except in the "have" provinces pay between 2 to 5 times the tuition that a student in a so called "have not" province pays.
  16. But maintaining unnecessarily large garrison which had to be maintained at the expense of the 13 colonies also helped quicken the downward spiral of relations.
  17. I agree with you on this point. Honestly the US and the west have done some pretty stupid things which have actual made the world much more dangerous even if those actions were deemed necessary at the time and I would say that the Taliban and Saddam were not the worst of it. Was a mistake because now, to prove that a nation is dangerous we would need pretty much a smoking gun to intervene. To me that is the biggest blunder of them all, knowingly making false accusations hoping that you get lucky and find something along the way to support your initial reasons for going to war. To me this war put us all at a greater degree of danger. The "people" you are talking about have made sure that they do not fit in to the categories of the geneva convention, they do not fit in as a legal combatant nor do they fit in as a civilian so if they want to fall under a certain category they should work to do so or the international community should redefine the categories and create a suitable category for people who use human shields, murder young girls for seeking education, use IED's which go off indiscriminately and injury anyone within their danger radius both civilians and military. None of those organizations are in any way impartial, they all have their own agenda which means that everything said and done is to further their own goals. Amnesty and HR Watch both do some good work, but many times they work without distinction between criminals and innocent people and sometimes overdo it just a tad. This "people" who are being held by US authorities for the most part earned their stay in US detention camps by committing war crimes yet those organizations would like to force inadequate organization and institutions to deal with this so called "people" which may lead many of them to be set free. I am interested to see your source from the USSC out of curiosity I would like to read it, as for the European courts and government institutions I have little faith in those organizations as in my opinion they are taking potshots at the US seeing as likely 1) they have no access to documents or the information that matters which is in US custody thus rendering their opinion near useless and 2) they have no authority over the US or any agency therein nor is there any international body that has authority to persecute or even place demands on the US. As for the red cross, their position I would love to read about as I have not had the time to read up on anything from them. The enemy knowingly places themselves in a category that for all intents and purposes was and is not covered by the Geneva convention. In my opinion the way to winning this war would be to respect the law(those"people" fall outside the law) and protect all important human life, by important human life I mean the people in Afghanistan and Iraq who want to live in peace and without the fear that sending your daughter to school would mean that she is killed or maimed by this "people". Our job is to protect the people who need protecting rather than let the war criminals free so that they could terrorize innocent people which for the most part happen to be Afghan and Iraqi and once in a while a western power. I believe that elements within the US military have squandered certain advantages and for the most part they have been dealt with, but by no means is the US at level with the terrorists or even close to it. The US has to do some pretty awful things for a pretty long time to even come close to be seen as an equal and I don't see that happening in my lifetime. Yeah, take the terrorists and execute them for whatever warcrimes they have committed and the rest throw in jail. Not really part of this argument, this are two separate points but to a degree I agree with you. Not good, but for the most part I think it is a political failure rather than a military or moral one. There is a long list for both and I think that is a thread in and of its own. This ties in with the previous question and I would have to say that there was a lot of waste over the last decade or so due once again to improper political decisions. They are thinking that they do not need to militarily defeat the forces of the west, they just need to outlast the political will to stay in Afghanistan or help Iraq. Reassess our strategy and learn from our mistakes in order to avoid a defeat in this war. I agree 100% with you on this one.
  18. Going to university in Quebec you still do not get the same tuition rate as a Quebec students... And transfer payments do help with tuition, as they are used to pay for other services thus the Province can allocate the free cash that they have due to the transfer payments in to education.
  19. Living in Canada?I didn't know Canada existed in 1760... what history books are you basing your bullshit off of? They had the 13 colonies which by the way were British colonies until 15 years later, if they had wanted to the British could have shipped of the French two the four corners of the Empire... French militia? Try again kiddo, if it was not for the French Regulars Quebec would have been in English hands 10 times over the previous 60 years, the French militia like the militia of the colonies in the south was meant to support the Regulars rather than to conduct a war on its own as was proven. You are bring to blow your own horn when it comes to this as the British were already in Montreal and Quebec city in 1763 when peace was signed and if they chose to they could have removed the French Settlers with little problem as they controlled the organized forces, and the colonies to the south which were with much larger populations were itching to do away with Quebec and its French population. Quebec exists due to the mercy that Britain showed them in 1760-1763 and as much as you want to deny it that is the truth.
  20. So you want the government to pay for you to have sex?
  21. For the vote itself I don't think it even matters, 50%+1 is not a sustainable majority, for that matter 60% would not be a sustainable majority. What I mean by this is that if the vote had gone the other way, the numbers would have gone down once people start realizing what they would be loosing and thus the swing vote would have gone the other way. From the date of a yes vote I believe there was one year for full independence and that means that would be the negotiation period and once the terms of separation come to light most likely only the Hard Core separatists will support continuing with independence.
  22. So this is where Catholic institutions draw the line? I would have thought it would be when they caught their priests with little kids would have been the line in the sand.
  23. I wonder how long they would last against the Cadets...
  24. Thats because it is a simple concept.
  25. I don't know, there are a number of such comments from a number of different speeches to different audiences. You are trying to justify that it was one time only, to me one time only is one time to much when it deals with wiping out a nation you can justify it any way you want at the end of the day it was not one comment it is a policy seeing as the Iranian Leadership keeps repeating it. And he is the person who speaks for the Leadership of Iran, do you honestly believe that any politician in his position would have freedom to say anything outside of the party line? Wether or not he has power is irrelevant, he is the president of Iran and he speaks based on the leadership policy. Yes, there are numerous newspaper articles, documentaries, and videos that show his love for Israel. Hitler never wanted war...or at least that is what he said for most of the 1930's until he was ready for war. Really? They have? I mean its not like they were killing their own citizens who wanted a change in government, or support organizations that have an aim to destroy Israel. And yet the west has not used that massive nuclear arsenal for war aside from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and there are no indications of using said weapons unless provoked.
