New Submarines: Carney vs Poilievre
John Stone replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let us compromise and say some are inspired thru their religious beliefs - however the world must be made safe or at the lease stable enough for them to practice said beliefs. -
Canada does not have the luxury to be diverse re: a platform of this type - utter foolish in terms of support infrastructure/ training /

In GOD we trust but be prepared first, most and always. I'm good with that. -
Imagine the Trudeau / Singh coalition still at the helm now. Don't get me wrong, it's not personal - the problem was Justin thought he was his father and the party thought he could become his father. Singh is without question the poster boy of what not to project when your in opposition - those two stuck together like shite to a wool blanket. On the other hand the Conservatives must bear some of the blame for those (2) sad sacks - look at what they were running against?? I wish Trudeau well but he should never have been leader - he's more of a manager, eh? A teacher?

Most are ignorant of the fact that a German catholic political party allowed the Nazi to gain absolute power (Enabling Act). Hitler's promise to the Catholics was that it they would support him, he'd eat the Catholics last. Any religion cannot be tolerated (control notwithstanding - see Russia) under a autocracy regime. -

............ subs would support Article 5, eh? Arctic surveillance is a side bar. .......... -
at the risk of sounding xenophobic .............Trudeau the JUNIOR welcomed 490K residents in 2024 and had designs for 500K in 2025? Taking into account that Canada's health infrastructure is strained (??) was this a smart move? Probably not. Doubtful if anyone recalls the so-called 'Spanish Flu - circa 1918) but it was transmitted by returning WWI vets. Same situation here? In any case, believe it or not, as bad as it is, there's worse than measles in the World - far worse. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government aims to welcome 465,000 permanent residents next year, 485,000 in 2024 and 500,000 in 2025, according to Immigration Minister Sean Fraser. The numbers for 2023 and 2024, announced Tuesday in Toronto, were raised from earlier estimates of 447,055 and 485,000, respectively.

.......... arguably a pyrrhic victory for the Liberals ......... all orchestrated by the opposition. It would have been far better for the Liberals to be defeated, non-confidence - call an election? Why? Because they (Liberals) would have been rewarded with a majority government. Def the oppositions (most esp. the Separatists) biggest fear. Why? Because they would have immediately become irrelevant. Canada needs a majority gov. and not a situation where the tail wags the dog.

re: They're not nuclear missile subs nor is there an intention to be used in an attack roll. Let's compromise and call them a p/o our NATO deterrence? Of course they're designed to attack......... hunter / killer. -

re: Admiral 2025 says there's no need at all for a Cdn sub to remain submerged for an extended length of time Gotta be the dumbest thing I've read in a long time. No need? For god sakes 'Admiral' that is how they remain undetectable. If the Soviets ever surge their fleet of nucs I can guarantee you they'll head for the arctic ...... 3rd strike, eh? Okay lets call it deterrence. -
Why Are We Doing This U.S. Vs. Canada Thing?

re: EURO type economic zone? The U.S. has a debt in the tens of trillions $$? Brexit had a lot to do with GB not willing to be responsible for economic cripples.- 223 replies

............ well, Americans did drop the A bomb .......... twice. Anyone that has spent any amount of time living and working in the U.S. would definitely argue that the two cultures are drastically different. History? The 13 colonies rejected what groomed Canada for 200 years? The United States is a super power and believe me when I say that carries a LOT of swag with their thoughts - their swag isn't 'we're punching above our weight' rhetoric, their swag is real.

The French population greatly outnumbered the English until well into the 19th century - great migration (from Europe). Likely what was going on in the U.S. (Manifest Destiny) at the time influenced the British reasoning that a country with 'a' population was better for defense than a country with 'no' population.

So-called Palestinians with Israeli citizenship have the right to vote - emphasis 'those with Israeli citizenship'. Population and it's effect on democracy and by extension political power is like the sword of Damocles hanging over Israel - imagine if Israel annexed the West Bank / Gaza? It would be forced to deny suffrage to a huge portion of the annexed population - akin to the situation South Africa lived thru with apartheid. Baring a 3rd World war (geo-realignment) there is no solution - the struggle is not about the Palestinian 'cause' it's about raw power and those that use the Palestinian cause as a wedge issue to promote political power.

Arguably the American fear of of a Canadian military response isn't too great, eh? Canada cannot and never could defend our sovereignty - you see we had the ocean(s) to deter any aggression. Who would have thought that our greatest ally, indeed the West's greatest defender of democracy would become Canada's Brutus? They say hindsight is 20/20? OMG, NATO was such a bargain for the World's 2nd largest country and a population of a mere 40 mil. Trump intends on taking the U.S. out of NATO - gawd help us all. Hopefully Canada's strategic importance will factor in future U.S. administrations calculus to defend the CONTINENT.
