The Trump Recession
gatomontes99 replied to Matthew's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
According to the GDP report, the shrink was due to two major changes: prepurchasing imports to bypass tariffs and lower government spending. The lower government spending will stick around, but the imports count against GDP and are a temporary influx. Importers bought more than normal to save money on tariffs. Therefore, they will buy less and that will positively effect the economy. Also, exports and investments were stronger than expected which shows the private sector economy is strengthening and not weakening. Oh...and jobs have been growing. As the left was absolutely adimit about before, a recession must have a loss of jobs. -
Actually, a DNC insider is the one that released that information: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2025/02/10/former_dnc_official_lindy_li_.html Lindy Li is a former regional chair and fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee who worked on Joe Biden's 2020 presidential campaign but has since raised funds for President Trump's inaugural committee. ... So who was running the Biden White House? "Steve Ricchetti, Anita Dunn. Mike Donilon. Ron Klain. Jeff Zients. Bob Bauer, Biden's personal lawyer," former DNC fundraiser Lindy Li said. "I’m going to get in so much trouble for saying all this -- please give me credit for it -- but these are the people who ran our country for the last four years." Border Czar' Tom Homan: Biden Was The First President Who Ever "Unsecured The Border On Purpose. This money went to Hamas: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-56665199 https://newamericangovernment.org/biden-officials-ignored-state-dept-warning-that-funding-palestinians-would-lead-to-hamas-attacks/ “A March 2021 internal State Department document that was obtained by the Washington Free Beacon earlier this year and verified by Fox News Digital shows officials privately communicating their concerns that a Biden administration plan to unfreeze over $360 million in U.S. funds for the Palestinian Authority could risk benefiting terror groups, a trade-off the officials argued was necessary for national security,” the report said. “We assess there is a high risk Hamas could potentially derive indirect, unintentional benefit from U.S. assistance to Gaza. There is less but still some risk U.S. assistance would benefit other designated groups,” the State Department wrote in the document. “Notwithstanding this risk, State believes it is in our national security interest to provide assistance in the West Bank and Gaza to support the foreign policy objectives.” Scott Smith was found guilty of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in August after he was filmed being dragged by police from the Loudoun County School Board meeting on June 22. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail, all suspended, contingent on a year of good behavior, Loudoun Now reported at the time. They arrested and prosecuted a dad because he dared challenge the school board for covering up that his daughter was sexually assaulted as a result of their policies. Thats just one example. ... I have to stop here. Maybe i can pick this up later.

He's not. It's his negotiating tactic. 1. Make an outrageous, shocking first offer 2. Get the other side to compromise 3. Take what you can. Sometimes his outrageous first claim is an honest offer. But this clearly wasn't. Sending everyone else out to back the claim was just negotiations. The first problem he has is that neither the left or the right would go along with it. The left won't do it because Trump and the right won't do it because yall keep voting for JT clones. He can't do it alone. You guys really can't be so stupid that if Trump challenged you to a race that you'd shoot yourself in the foot just to stop the race? Because that's what you did here.

So let's look at what was actually said: https://www.bea.gov/news/2025/gross-domestic-product-1st-quarter-2025-advance-estimate "The decrease in real GDP in the first quarter primarily reflected an increase in imports, which are a subtraction in the calculation of GDP, and a decrease in government spending. These movements were partly offset by increases in investment, consumer spending, and exports. For more information, refer to the "Technical Notes" below." So two things happened that negatively impacted the GDP. The increase in important (to save money on any tariffs that might have come) counted against the GDP. The upside t ok that is we will sell those items and they will be part of the GDP later. The other was a big decrease in government spending. That's a positive thing that doesn't really reflect the consumer and manufacturer activity. What offset the government decrease and the increased imports was investments, consumer spending and exports. Those things all went up. That's great news. Now, if we imported a ton of crap to get ahead of tariffs and it buggered up the GDP for one quarter, so be it. But, those imports were likely purchased early. That means they likely won't be purchased later in the year. So this spike in imports will go away. Also, tariffs will prevent people from buying imports that negatively effect the GDP. So that will be better. Just stay calm. The news makes this look bad. It isn't. The data is fine. The data is actually really good. Just because the GDP took a hit doesn't mean jobs are going away. Those are up by over 300k. It doesn't mean businesses are struggling. In fact, they are boosting orders to save money. Everything is fine.

First, tariffs have not hit the economy yet. for imports, tariffs won't be on the shelves (as it were) until late August or September. Second, the "growth" we had under Biden was primarily government spending and then medical sector. We did not grow significantly in any other area for the last two years. Consequently, all the job growth was either government jobs or health care related.

Younarr the one that told us that Trump is like Hitler because Hitler wasn't like Hitler. No one believes you. You guys have all these ridiculous, emotional out burst and then support things like rapists and murderers from other countries before the American people. So we don't care what your opinion is because you clearly aren't serious.

Oh a lefty wrote an opinion piece in the WSJ and that makes Trump wrong. Lol. You people will fall for anything. -
Actually, the Council of Presidents was a claim by a former staffer. I have no idea if she's been on Fox News. Yes it is because Asylum must be claimed the first time you cross a border and the vast majority of asylum seekers did not come from Mexico. They were invited by Joe, though. And a very small number were deported. They counted the turn backs, just like Obama did. Uh, no. They targeted a dad, whose daughter was sexually assaulted by a guy claiming to be female while they were in a girls bathroom. He wasn't violent. None of them were violent. Some protested sexually graphic materials in the library. Well that is a bald face lie. Do you not remember Biden saying that he will take any means necessary to keep tlTrump out of office? Then he added, as an after thought, "constitutionally." Then the WH sent the #3 from the DOJ to be an entry level prosecutor in NY and met multiple times with the DA from GA and her boy toy. They also, illegally, set up a special council with unlimited scope, raided his home without a specific location to look for the documents (warrants have to be very specific), planted top secret folders to make the documents seem important and good gawd so much more. But yeah, Trump (who declined to go after Hillary) is the problem. You guys aand your projection. And we've shown you on so many occasions that you aren't using the term cognitive dissonance properly. Just stop already. I'm embarrassed for you.

India is rumored to have signed a trade deal. -
Lmao...I never said sleepy Joe was in charge. The council of Presidents was. They were radical. They opened the border. They funded Hamas. They allowed terrorists onto their staff. They persecuted parents that attended school board meetings. They opened up the Banana Republic style lawfare on Trump and his staff. I could go on. The point is, that was not normalcy. That was the greatest threat to our republic since the south separated. Really? So I hated the other so much that I supported the guy that made the "other" more prosperous? You do know Trump lifted more black and Hispanic citizens out of poverty than any president ever? He is the one that signed prison reform to counter Joe Biden's law that unfairly targeted black men. Get a clue @Hodad. You are everything you claim I am.

Awww, are you having big feelings? Do you need someone to validate them sweety? Too bad. Trump has nearly flipped the wrong/right direction polling in just 100 days. That tells you everything you need to know. You cherry picked one piece of data on an incomplete policy that the left has spent thousands of hours trying to denigrate. So what if they were able to convince a few dolts that tariffs aren't working before they are even in place? The reality is, the country is turning around and that is how Americans see it.
