You are the one who does not understand the Second Amendment and its history. Militias were an important part of America's victory in the Revolutionary War. And they WERE a bunch of Bubbas with guns. The whole point was they were not regular army and they were the first in history to engage in guerilla warfare (fighting from behind cover, rather than in straight lines like the Continental Army and the Redcoats.) They came in and turned the tide. They were important because they were independent and HAD THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS, which is precisely WHY the Second Amendment was written. The major difference: The American Bill of Rights is 10 Amendments. The Canadian Charter Of Rights is 38 sections. One has to understand the history surrounding when the Second Amendment was ratified. In the days of the Revolutionary War, the Continental Army (led by General Washington) was no match for the redcoats led by Cornwallis. The common folk of the countryside were recruited to fight in small pockets here and there.
