  1. Okay, folks, I might as well admit this. In a local school board race, I supported a Democrat over a Republican. (Yeah, I know. Some already are thinking of taking away my Rush Limbaugh badge.) Follow these points. 1. Maybe it's the substitute teacher in me, but NO WAY should anyone be elected to the school board who has never had to stand before the class, either as a teacher or a sub. Until that day, you do not know what you're talking about. I've been standing before public school classes since 1999 and I know. 2. The Republican candidate was a realtor who had never taught a class in his life. He was espousing some conservative views and frankly I would have supported him for the state legislature. 3. The Democrat candidate was a retired middle school principal who had won local awards for his work in this area. His middle school shattered reading records for years at a time. The only reason he ran for the job was because.... 4 The Republican candidate wanted to (a) get rid of all public schools and make them private, and (b) get rid of all the tall fences around the schools, claiming it made them look like prisons. I had subbed at the middle school this principal ran. It was a Cadillac of a school, even though the building was very old and it was in a rather rough neighborhood. This principal was of the mind set that kids are clay and that they can be made to learn whether they come from trailer parks or million dollar mansions. It's just a matter of expectation and not letting them get away with sliding back. They were expected to act right in class, do the work, and mostly behave themselves. Oh, and for those who may be thinking that public schools should all be made private schools. (and no less than Joe Clark-the celebrated principal who saved Eastside High in New Jersey and had a movie made about his life-actually suggested such a thing, going to all private schools) look at an average public school. Go stand in the lunch room, either during breakfast or lunch. Look at all those kids. Look at the number of employees in that building. Look at the number of classrooms, the durable equipment for the science labs, music labs, libraries, gyms, etc. Add all of that up and imagine requiring a regular parent to fork over a check every month for tuition, a parent who would be expected all the same perks as the public school. And remember, the Horace Mann model for public schools predates the Civil War. I'm not sure that means I've gone down the liberal path here, since conservatives generally are more intelligent, more open minded and more receptive to out of the box solutions to problems. You decide. I've seen this industry since 1999. And yeah, I got some stories for y'all.
  2. With all the entertainment alternatives, it's amazing that Hollywood is able to put out movies that sell ANY tickets at all. The homosexual farce "Bros" was a box office bomb. And if Hollywood continues to spend billions on political screeds, it is going to wind up insolvent and broke, regardless of how much George Soros money subsidizes it.
  3. That is not why Governor DeSantis took away Disney's special privileges. Disney was not teaching kids to hate anything. And the original Disney was in Anaheim. Walt decided to build another park because he made a mistake in putting the main gate of Disneyland RIGHT ON THE PROPERTY LINE. That led to at least four miles of tacky tourist traps building on that road and making the road to Disney a ghetto. In Central Florida, (where they secretly bought a little over 39 square miles of land), you have to drive for a few miles on a secluded tree lined nature road to get to any main gates. Problem was Disney had threatened to bring legal action against the Parental Rights In Education Act. Imagine in your blue state, if there is a major corporation threatening to sue your state government for giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens and allowing welfare bums to skate without ever looking for a job. Let's say that corporation owned its own property and was exempt from your state's laws. Your governor would likely take away that corporation's special privileges. You would have a problem with that?
  4. Actually, at the time the Reedy Creek District had those special privileges, Disney property enforced its own laws. Speed limits, times of night club closure, sales of alcohol, ALL were separate and independent of the laws of Florida.
  5. Here are the main points of the bill: Those are the highlights. They are reasonable. They insert parental control into the mix. What is your problem with parental control?
  6. Boys and girls, the purpose of public education in Florida is to create educated students who either can function in life or go on to college and forge out lucrative careers. Public education is NOT designed to make homosexuals, trannies and lesbians feel better about their situations. There isn't time in class for that. The kids barely have time to focus on Math, Science, Reading, Writing, History, Geography, Civics, the Arts, etc. There are some liberal teachers here who are having mild tantrums about this. I get to watch them in the teacher's lounge during lunch. Not all of them, but some. And I always take a couple of shut-the-fck-up pills before walking in there, so I can listen to what they have to say. (They don't want or need to know the views of a substitute teacher.) Truthfully, MOST of our teachers are concerned about doing the job, and less about the politics. In fact, they don't talk about anything else but the job. I've never seen any occupation where the worker is never off the job, NEVER talks about anything else. Tell me again exactly WHAT in this bill does harm. Spell it out, intelligently. Florida schools continue to lead the country, mostly because our teachers are doing the job and our state supports a robust public education system that involves the parents. It's as simple as that.
  7. Read the bill. Don't just take the word of MSNBC, CNN, or other fake news rags. Read the bill. While New Jersey's students are led to neglect important instruction in favor of classes in anal sex and drag queen shows, Florida students are ahead of the pack in academic studies, where it matters. The Florida legislature created the bill and Governor DeSantis (the most intelligent governor in the United States) signed it into law. Republican Democracy in action. Read the bill. https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1557
  8. The argument against this bill is being launched by those who haven't read the bill. The word "gay" doesn't appear in the bill. Read the bill. Don't depend on The View or MSNBC. Decide for yourself. https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1557
  9. We'd do just fine if no other corporations ever located to Florida ever again. We'd do fine if people would stop moving down here from oppressive blue states. Sadly, they're coming in like cockroaches to an uncovered birthday cake. And we're running out of room . The present management of Florida has low corporate taxes, ZERO state income taxes, the best economy in the country, the best schools in the country and delightful weather year round. Land and house values are relatively low, compared to third world shee ite holes like California. Florida has a more attractive business climate than any blue state in America. Yeah, businesses. Think long and hard about it. And don't let Florida's RIGHT TO WORK status factor into your decision, since we all know how much you LOVE oppressive unions and state enforced closed shops. Frankly, I'd like to see a few sections of the Everglades sold off to an oil refinery company. That would send state revenues into the stratosphere.
  10. I'm really gonna try not to make this too long. I used to live in Central Florida, not too far from the Reedy Creek District. I know it's hard for those of you not here to be able to grasp this, but Disney's little deal with Florida, (made back in the mid Sixties) basically claimed Disney property could set up its own government, separate from the state of Florida. They had their own police force. (I was stopped for speeding on Disney property, and those character-like cops scared the crap out of me.) They decide their own times for liquor sales. And Disney World was able to circumvent ALL Civil Rights Law fair hiring practices, pretty much discriminating against any race they chose because their version of hiring was called "casting." I knew a lot of people who worked there and it was real. The drug use on that property was off the charts. If you're wondering how those wonderful Disney smiles came into being, you need not wonder. I met several folks who dealt drugs to those employees. What was probably not reported in the left wing fake news media was the fact that Disney was threatening legal action against the legally elected Governor and Legislature, who had passed the Parental Rights In Education Act. https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1557 You can say that a government has no rights to interfere with a private business (to a point, I know, liberals) but Governor DeSantis decided that if this private corporation was going to threaten legal action against the state of Florida, then it would lose its special privileges not afforded any other corporation in Florida. Did this action hurt Florida tourism? (I moved out of that crowded hell hole in 2003 so this comes from friends still stuck there.) Are there fewer tourists in town? Are the roads less crowded? DON'T make me laugh.
  11. As far as age of consent in Central American countries... 15 years 16 years 18 years https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Age_of_Consent_-_Central_America.svg The age of consent in Mexico is 17. https://www.ageofconsent.net/world/mexico When in doubt, always go to the source.
  12. Another liberal friend of mine responded the same way when I suggested most people watch Fox. He got very angry. He then went to insult most people living in the state of Pennsylvania, mostly because they were rural folk who voted for Republicans. He ranted and raved about true "journalists" not being given a voice at all. (Of course, he then alluded to NPR and PBS as his news sources.) I tend to look at this more from a marketing point of view. Yes, left wingers do not like the idea of having to sell the news, since they believe the news is far too important and should be REQUIRED viewing by everyone. And yet, the big three (ABC, CBS, NBC) began getting competition in the marketplace of ideas. Most people gravitate to FoxNews. A lot of it is the sheer professionalism of the presentations, the graphics, the quality of the on air personalities. A lot of it is because Fox gives equal time to both sides of the aisle, thus attracting that small sector of liberals who actually have an open mind, (and it is very small.) What really galls my liberal friend is the fact that most of America AGREES with the mainstream conservative side of Fox, even as the liberals there represent the most intelligent and articulate liberals in the country. (Obviously, the liberals at CNN and MSNBC are pretty much over the top biased idiots, with few ideas and a lot of insults.) A lot of folks think of Fox as a conservative news station. If that is the case, (and I maintain Fox gives equal time to both sides) then it suggests that most of America is mainstream conservative, and that goes without the identity politics. Food for thought.
  13. The rape of a child is not a fake concern. It is a crime. The rapist should be charged as an adult and be labeled a sex offender for life. Certainly, the girl doesn't get back her innocence. The fact that a school board would treat the father of a rape victim in such a way is reprehensible. This isn't really as much a matter of a culture war as it is elected officials being guilty of aiding and abetting a rape. They ALL should be locked up for that.
  14. I agree with you on that one. I will say that Governor Jeb Bush began the educational reform that took Florida schools up from the bottom 48 and put us close to the top. It is Governor DeSantis who is looking out for the interests of the parents. A couple of items: I read that bill DeSantis signed into law. Yes, CNN and other left wing opinion rags call it the "Don't Say Gay" bill, but the word "gay" is nowhere to be found in the text. Some conservatives might call this the "anti-grooming" bill, but the word "grooming" is nowhere to be found either. Mostly, the bill is what the name suggests: Parental Choice. https://flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2021/Chapter1014/All I always say when in doubt, go to the source.
  15. By the way, folks. I work in two Florida counties as a substitute teacher, and have been on this job since 1999. I've seen things you might want to know about, (subject matter, discipline issues, etc). And for a mainstream Rush Limbaugh/Donald Trump conservative, I have original views on the subject of public schools in general. Teachers here are not quite as left wing extreme as you might believe. (Well, most of them are left wingers, but most of them keep that crap out of the classroom, mostly because there just isn't enough time.) Yeah, I got some stories for ya. And so far, I haven't seen any situations in ANY of the schools that involve drag queen shows, nor have I noticed any lesson plans calling for instruction on anal sex, (which New Jersey schools apparently are required to cover, no buts about it. And no, I'm not making this up, about New Jersey.) Personally, I believe the Florida public schools are the best in the country. Let's chat. You might be surprised.
  16. For now, they just need to open American bank accounts to deposit all the welfare dollars that Democrats will be paying them. Then then need to register in at least ten different voting precincts so they can help elect more Democrats.
  17. Government spending (either Discretionary or Transfer payments) is not socialism. Yes, the welfare state is a vehicle of the left and it's easy to assume the left is all about socialism. Most leftists claim they support socialism without knowing what it actually is. Read the Communist Manifesto. Pretty much lays out the structure. Socialism is the abolition of all private property. It is the government owning all means of production. If you want to know the problem I have with it, you should look at history. The most murderous regimes (Stalin, HItler, Castro, Pol Pot, Mao, etc) were socialist. Today, socialism accounts for basically the ghetto regions of the world. Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, etc. Ghettos. Socialism is a form of government and philosophy that has failed the test of time.
  18. The people who swim the river and come here are not migrants nor are they immigrants. They are foreign nationals who have violated our borders and have broken our laws. Since most of them have paid drug cartels to get here from Central America, they are also guilty of aiding and abetting drug dealers. Immigrants are those who got in line and waited their turn. They learned to speak our language, came with marketable skills and took the oath of loyalty. I'm proud to call legal immigrants Americans. Those who are here illegally are criminals. They should be sent back.
