I generally agree with your take on this. As I said though, there are exceptions and that is why the law is the way it is. The self defence law portion of C-26 was even proposed by a conservative, (Rob Nicholson) and was passed in the house even by the conservatives. Don't solely blame PP for the political blunder. His entire campaign team really screwed him. They were the ones that took daily temperatures and polls and knew what was happening but did not make him move quickly enough.
