  1. This is what being a “Christian nation” gets you. Evangelicals cheerlead this.
  2. You’d be wrong. Someone can say something, that doesn’t make it true. You seem really sensitive about what a few people say, even though you can’t point to anyone actually saying it. Might makes right? When did that change do you think?
  3. Isn’t there an entire subsection of pornography dedicated to older ladies? “MILFs” That alone probably refutes the title of this thread. Isn’t the point of feminism that women should have individual autonomy as to what they would like to do, regardless of men’s opinions?
  4. This really makes no sense. Unless you think residential schools abusing children gets a bad rap?
  5. Who thinks we should acknowledge this “every single day”? Show an example of a land acknowledgement that states “we” don’t really belong here? Or do you think every land acknowledgement implies that? If so, there’s not much point in talking to you about the topic. Seems like conspiracy thinking. Where do you go that you see all these land acknowledgements on every holiday? Thats weird. Or are you just exaggerating? Smarter, stronger and more sophisticated? Thats what you would call settlers compared to natives? Even if they were all those things, did that make it right to take land that was already someone else’s?
  6. Why is acknowledging what happened equal shame and guilt? Why do you think acknowledging Canada was settled by Europeans, reflecting on it and embracing facts of what happened to indigenous people is an exercise in shame and guilt? You prefer it gets ignored? Or denied that it happened? I don’t think you actually know what they believe.
  7. This didn’t age well. Canada will be at 2% next year and is targeting 5% in the future. @Army Guy, Why isn’t Carney your hero?
  8. “Years of discussion” and concern about taxes. No flood warning apparatus. Now dozens of kids are dead. well, at least taxes are low in Texas, eh? https://abcnews.go.com/US/hard-hit-texas-county-flood-warning-sirens-despite/story?id=123531823
  9. Well yeah. The CBC doesn’t do that nearly as much. But mainstream media is owned by very rich right wingers. So to say that they are an example of the “left wing media” overstating climate change is weird.
  10. Give an example of an expert saying Canada is going to end up like Greece.
  11. Example? I will caveat this by saying the media often sensationalizes things all the time. Let’s hear your example of the cbc doing this.
  12. “You’re”. I’m saying Canada’s economic situation is nothing like what happened to Greece. Wasn’t it obvious?
  13. You’re right. It should only be about feelings and rhetoric. Evidence shouldn’t be needed. 😂
  14. How is the news slanted left? Any examples? Or is this going to be like the “left hates Canada” thread with nothing of any substance? @Michael Hardner is trying to find common ground with you, but neither of you can actually provide examples. I think he might be doing it just to show his “centre mainstream both sides are right” bona fides.
  15. No, it shouldn’t represent fringe views. The CBC reflects mainstream Canadians, generally. It’s should not be a shocker when there is generally a liberal bias, as that would be most Canadians.
  16. A country is not a person. Debt is very different between a nation’s finances and a person’s finances.
  17. So do I. But your answer is as vague as people saying “progressives hate Canada”. There’s never any examples. Just vague notions that it must be happening. About a third of Conservative voters in Canada believe in anthropogenic climate change. These voices are drowned out by conservatives (the majority) who are anti-science. https://angusreid.org/environment-climate-change/ You’re right. But they are far from mainstream in liberal politics, unlike conservatives.
  18. You did. I asked specifically about universal dental care and old age pensions and your response was that people should pay for those themselves. So why would I think you are in favour of universal healthcare? Here is the conversation, as your memory seems a bit short: What a dumb question. Tell ya what Tweenkie-poo...YOU pay for it. I'd rather pay for my own family.
  19. What makes you think that it doesn’t? The problem with the loudest of conservatives is that they think talking about things like climate change are a leftwing issue. They literally want the CBC to give equal time to conspiracy theories.
  20. 5 former directors of the National Weather Service sent an open letter a few months ago about the potentially disastrous impact of cuts by Trump. It sure came true fast. But at least your taxes are slightly lower, and rich people’s are significantly lower. NWS staff will have an impossible task to continue its current level of services. Some forecast offices will be so short-staffed that they may be forced to go to part-time services. Not only are there fewer forecasters, there are also fewer electronic technicians, who are responsible for maintaining the critical NEXRAD radars. Our worst nightmare is that weather forecast offices will be so understaffed that there will be needless loss of life. We know that’s a nightmare shared by those on the forecasting front lines — and by the people who depend on their efforts. https://www.theinvadingsea.com/2025/05/06/national-weather-service-directors-letter-noaa-trump-budget-forecasting-hurricanes-tornadoes/
  21. You’re not in favour of universal dental or old age pension…. Would you prefer healthcare was privatized too?
  22. Why don’t you want people to have clean teeth or a small stipend when they’re old?
  23. They’re in a country trending towards fascist tendencies. If you don’t want to take a chance, then the solution is to leave.
