PM's climate plan costs more than 200 Billion dollars
Aristides replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes we do, by changing the composition of the atmosphere we are changing the climate. Forests are burning because of drought and higher temperatures which are exacerbated by the amount of CO2, methane and other gases we are injecting into it. People like you will ignore it until that is no longer possible and it directly affects you. You don't think the climate is changing? Just ask a farmer. -

And why are the forests burning? We are controlling the climate and not in a good way. -

Viewership is up 76% over the Tokyo games. Some of this will be because of location and timezone and some because of Covid but it's pretty obvious that most people are more interested in watching athletes perform on a world stage than working themselves into a frenzy over some perceived insult. -

Sure I am but an analogy has to be accurate, otherwise it is just making crap up. -
Why climate alarmism and carbon taxes are a scam.
Aristides replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Restricting supply keeps prices up everywhere, including the US. You are not wrong when you say taxes are the biggest reason BC prices are higher than elsewhere. The BC carbon tax went from being revenue neutral to just another wealth redistribution tax. Rebates depend on your income and only 65% of residents qualify for any rebate. If they were really serious about combating climate change, they would be using that money for infrastructure that would reduce emissions and combat the consequences of climate change, like improving flood control and and making our forests less vulnerable to fires. -

The overnight increase had nothing to do with taxes, other than GST. It was oil companies that decided to eliminate refineries in BC, not government. Half of the original Trans Mountain capacity ( about 150,000 barrels a day) goes to refineries in Washington. There will be no new refineries in BC for couple of reasons. A: The environmental movement and government will make it impossible to build them. B: Oil companies are not going to spend billions on new refineries just so they can get less money for their product. Restricting supply means higher prices and more profit for them. -

Yes it has. I don't know whether social media is making people stupid or just giving stupid people a place to advertise. -

So he is chickening out. Of course he wouldn't debate her if she doesn't become the nominee. -

Why climate alarmism and carbon taxes are a scam.
Aristides replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Long weekend coming, gas prices just jumped 15 cents a litre on the lower mainland. 1.58 on Monday evening, 1.73 this morning. That isn't taxes. We used to have four refineries on the lower mainland, the government didn't shut down three of them, the industry did. BC can now only refine 30% of what it uses, the rest has to come from Alberta and Washington. -

More likely because they ran out of food. By 2008 they had wiped out half of the provinces lodgepole pine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_pine_beetle -

Warming winters allowed the mountain pine beetle to move north during the nineties and destroy a large swaths of BC and Alberta pine forests. A lot of the dead wood was logged but much of it remains and is now contributing nice seasoned fuel for fires. Deniers seem incapable of making simple connections like this. -

As usual, you show an American (or should I say, modern) abysmal knowledge of history. The Olympics began over 700 years before the birth of Christ, so no, they weren't. The modern Olympics were originated by a Frenchman, de Coubertin. -
