States could change it by just awarding EC votes proportionally according to the state's popular vote. Say in a case like Montana, one candidate got between 50 and 60% of the popular vote, they would get 3 EC votes and the other candidate would get 1 vote, instead of winner take all. Doesn't get rid of the EC but definitely more democratic.

More and more, Republicans are relying on it to win elections because they keep losing the popular vote. The US only recognizes one person, one vote in the House. Both the Senate and President do not. Whether you like the system or not, all voters are not equal. We have a similar kind of disparity in Canada regarding number of seats per population in different regions but at least all votes count toward electing someone. If something like an electoral college is so good for the presidency, why not for state governors as well to even the field between rural and urban voters within a state?

The Electoral College grew out of the 3/5's compromise in which 3/5's of the enslaved black population would be counted toward allocating representatives, electors and calculating federal taxes. The compromise ensured southern states would ratify the constitution and gave Virginia, home of 200,000 slaves a quarter of the total electoral votes required to elect a president at that time. Sounds like a system a modern democratic country that brags about freedom would want to keep. 😆

I'm afraid you are right but so far they are a rather small but vocal minority in Canada. The internet was supposed to enlighten people but has done the opposite. When I look at my facebook feed and see how much garbage is posted about things in which I have personal expertise, it makes me wonder how much garbage is posted on subjects I don't know a lot about. You have to fact check everything.

Most of the CO2 and heat being generated is being absorbed by the oceans which are at record high temperatures. Heat is energy and more energy in the oceans means more powerful storms. Accelerating glacial melt is raising sea levels combined with storm surges from more powerful storms means more flooding. It's not complicated.

Are you admitting climate change is a thing? I think that using bullshit to put peoples lives in danger for political advantage is about as low as you can go. Either MTG and her fellow conspiracy pedlars are supreme low life's or dumber than dog shit. https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/hurricane-helene-misinformation-1.7346969

Only in Amurica would owning a handgun be considered a requirement to run for office.🙄 -

You don’t spend unless you have the revenues to cover it. You can’t isolate the two, they go hand in hand. The more revenues you need to service debt, the less you have to spend on things you need. The US federal government now needs over a trillion in revenues a year, just to pay interest on its debt.

If you lose trust in your institutions, laws and elections, the only alternative is dictatorship which is where all those attacking those institutions are headed, whether they know it or not. This is a crisis for all western democracy. We used to be in the business of trying to spread democracy but now we are struggling to defend it and its future is far from secure.
