CPP/OAP vs US Social Security
BeaverFever replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
It’s not my personal notion, it’s how the OAS program is widely seen and described by most people who are not right wing ideologues so there’s nothing “absurd” about it. Also nobody makes contributions directly to OAS so you can’t really measure or compare peoples’ “contributions” to that program specifically without considering what other federally funded services their taxes might have funded or consumed over their lifetime. At any rate even rich people benefit from the fact that there is not widespread poverty and desperation. Young people don’t directly benefit from programs for seniors, seniors don’t directly benefit from programs for youth, childless adults don’t directly benefit from programs for children, services industry doesn’t directly benefit from investments in aerospace research and so on. But that doesn’t make it all communism. All of these things happening together benefiting different sectors of society and the economy is what makes the big picture work. -
Geraldo Rivera Endorses Kamala Harris Over 'Sore Loser' Trump "However you justify voting for Trump, adopting his big lie about the stolen election makes you a liar," the veteran newsman said in a social media post Monday. …President Trump embarked on an increasingly menacing campaign to discredit the 2020 election. With a motley supporting cast of increasingly fringe characters, he careened from one bizarre theory to the next, offering no meaningful proof, that he had been robbed by the Democrats. “None exists. If you are a Republican, Donald Trump has made a liar of you. He has coaxed and intimidated tens of millions into pretending he was reelected in 2020, and that the election was stolen. ” … https://www.huffpost.com/entry/geraldo-rivera-endorses-kamala-harris_n_670d501fe4b0c5b8c0aed74f

CPP/OAP vs US Social Security

I presume your whining is about the fact that some people pay more taxes than others therefore you believe that they should receive more of every single public service and benefit imaginable. Not everything is life is or can be measured that way down to the smallest bean. The benefit is widely described as equitable. Stop trying to politicize everything. -
Another of your BS answers. Hilarious that you now suggest elected leaders don’t provide opinions on topics they know to be false while you support the most blustering opinionated leader the democratic world has ever seen. Im sure if the the audience had suggested socialism was good or the carbon tax is beneficial she would have immediately challenged it. Also hilarious you call someone a BIGOT for suggesting that DEMONSTRABLY FALSE CONSPIRACY claims should be challenged. Just shows you don’t know how to use the word bigot. Again YOU support the most ideologically INTOLERANT party whose members actually openly state that tolerance of diverse beliefs is a liberal FAULT. Secondly you yourself ate know to verbally insult and attack anyone who challenges your opinions on this forum. ACTUAL BIGOTS are people like you who put forth all sorts of racist claims about indigenous people, black people immigrants etc. Chemtrails is an easily disproven hoax and there is nothing bigoted about saying so. Leaders who deliberately choose to humour their nutjobs with these conspiracies for self-serving purposes are doing a disservice to society and democracy, and/or they are conspiracy nutjobs themselves.

LOL So now in your defective mind “woke” people have gone from being big government socialists who want government to regulate everything to being lawless anarchists? It’s hilarious how you dumbasses can’t even get your story straight Literally every post is an entirely new interpretation of reality, you can’t even be consistent in your ideology you randomly make shit up Anyway “sovereign citizens” is another right wing crackpot conspiracy movement, none of them are associated with left or wokeness or anything else.

Fake news, losers. Turn out the guy is a right wing trump supporter and self- described “journalist” podcaster who wasn’t trying to assassinate Trump. He was just trying to get close to his messiah probably hoping he was going to get an interview or something and like so many right wing nuts he carries a gun. He’s already out on bail and publicly confirming his love for Trump

CPP/OAP vs US Social Security
BeaverFever replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Canadian CPP and OAS combined currently provide a maximum benefit of approx $26,388 CAD and average of $17,412 CAD, whereas Us Social Security provides a max of $43,524 USD and average of $21,600 USD. So one doesn’t need to do any currency conversion to see that the American system provides a higher benefit although the averages are closer. There are also significant differences in how they operate with Canada having very low “net debt” while US has very high net debt as a result. Also the OAS portion is equitable because everyone gets the same entitlement regardless of income or work history. CPP is funded by employee and employer contributions which are invested in global markets making the CPP Investment Board one of the world’s largest amd most sophisticated investors and major player on Wall Street and global markets. For those earning at or below the specified annual maximum pensionable earnings ($68,500 in 2024) CPP was historically designed to replace up to 25% of a person’s average pre-retirement income (average of best 38 years commencing at age 18) Most people’s average is below the maximum (for example one would have had to earn the equivalent of $68,500 every single year between age 27 and 65 without interruption) and earnings above the maximum are excluded from consideration so even if you have very high earnings later on you can’t make up for low earning years and improve your earnings A few years ago Trudeau significantly improved CPP by increasing the replacement rate from 25% to 33% and phasing in an increase of maximum pensionable earnings OAS on the other hand is not funded and is simply paid for from the annual budget. Entitlement is based on years of residence in Canada rather than earnings or contributions with a minimum of 40 years of residence required for the full benefit There are also additional supplements to OAS for low income seniors and surviving spouses of pensioners US social security is based on contributions from employees and employers with a benefit formula based on average earnings, similar in concept to CPP. However unlike CPP social security obligations are largely unfunded with pensions in a given year paid for by contributions in the same year. It is also highly politicized, like everything else in the US. The plans’s minimal assets are held in a Trust fund which only invests in specially issued US federal bonds. Therefore unlike CPP, Social Security is not a player in global markets. CPP used to operate in a similar manner until major reforms in the 1990s -
Im not going to re-litigate all these old arguments but you exaggerate Trump’s success well as Obama and Biden’s shortcomings. Furthermore what successes did occur under Trump where despite not because of him with most of his senior staff from that first administration now confirming his unfitness for office and refusing to endorse him for another term, most outright opposing him. As for the NZ ship you’re just making shit up about what the captain decided or approved and you have no idea about the sea state or whether the ships operations were reasonable or not.

My god you are dumb. By definition the majority of a population ate rank and file and the minority are leaders Next your idi0tic bigoted argument seems to be that not even ONE “minority” should ever be allowed to be in any leadership position which once again proves what a detestable scumbag you are. No you just once again proved your absolute stupidity on a whole range of subjects from math to military knowledge. The majority of the military is enlisted personnel. Senior Officers aren’t made up of enlisted personnel who got promoted, nearly all join the military as officers after completing university and the ones promoted to the senior leadership often have even higher education and university women attend university at rates slightly higher than men. It is a fact that across many NATO countries there are higher proportion of women in the officer corps than enlisted, with women making up around 15% to 20% of all officers. And again your asinine logic here is that even ONE female officer over-representation because you believe straight white males should have 100% of the leadership positions. For the record dumbass in the New Zealand navy women are 20% of the enlisted ranks 25% of the commissioned ranks. Why would the fact that she’s a lesbian woman lessen the chance that she would be qualified? NZ only has 15-20 personnel at the rank of captain in their entire Navy. The entire senior officer corps all the way up to rear admiral is only 50-70 people. Which means regardless of whether someone is a woman or a lesbian or a straight white male with a freckle on his left ear has pretty good chance of a ships command. Nope and you haven’t produced one single fact about her to prove it. You’re doing that thing that uneducated and unintelligent people like you do “I don’t need facts or evidence, I just know”. Intelligent people don’t operate that way. You have no idea what happened if the ship got hit by a meteor from outter space would it be her fault? There’s no evidence that anyone on the ship did anything wrong much less the captain Remember your argument here is that if a qualified straight white male had been aboard them this would not have happened so you can’t just say “well she is the captain so she’s automatically to blame”.

What I said accurately descried the situation. You brought up tornadoes for no reason so I repeated myself without having adding any additional clarification. Sorry but you lose again

So a Trump-style rambling with juvenile baseless insults, off-topic digressions and falsehoods about the Trump acolytes convicted of lying about their Russian dealings and laundering Russian money Then you offer some verbal diarrhea about naval maneuvers which again have nothing to do with the fact that the ship lost power causing it to drift into a reef. The captain did not drive the ship into a reef, did not order the crew to drive the ship into a reef and Captains are not on the bridge 100% of the time when the ship is underway. The captain also does not micromanage all navigation or steering decisions either, which are usually handled by the bridge watch team, led by the Officer Of The Deck during routine activity. The only unqualified dope running for office is Trump, who is emotionally unstable and low intelligence, but get special treatment and opportunities because he was born rich. Affirmative Action for rich people is the oldest “DEI” program in history and Trump’s been a beneficiary of it his entire life

LMAO a high school dropout obsessed with merit that’s rich! Secondly it doesn’t necessarily follow that if 95% of the rank and file belong to a demographic then 95% of the elite will also belong to the same demographic Thirdly you fail to understand your stupid argument claims that if 95% of the qualified personnel are straight males, the other 5% aren’t qualified. You still haven’t been able to produce a shred of evidence that she had anything do with the crash or that her qualifications were insufficient. As usual you have opinions on topics you know nothing about which never seems to bother you MAGAs in the slightest

My statement was perfectly clear.

No the topic at the time was about the number of HURRICANES being higher than historical and he said the historical numbers is probably under counted. Nice try though.

Republican Science: Lara and Eric Trump-backed “prophet” claims God told her the hurricanes were “man-made” and “they” will also “set off” an earthquake “Prophet” Julie Green told followers that the Lord told her that the recent hurricanes were “all man-made” and that the weather events were deliberately created or manipulated as a form of “election interference.” She added that “they” will “set off” an earthquake at some point. Green isn’t a random grifter: She’s connected to Trump’s inner circle and has been heavily endorsed by Eric Trump. The former president’s son told Green that she’s “so incredible,” stated that he’s saved one of her messages, called her a “warrior,” and thanked her for their “friendship.” Green has also spoken with Republican National Committee co-Chair Lara Trump, who told Green that she was “so honored” to be on her podcast. She also said: “On behalf of our whole family, thank you for all of the prayers, thank you for believing in my father-in-law, and for fighting alongside of us.” During a recent podcast appearance, Green — as she does — pushed far-right conspiracy theories while telling people what “the Lord had talked about” regarding the country, including that the Lord supposedly said that the recent hurricanes were “deliberate,” “man-made,” and “another form of election interference”: … https://www.mediamatters.org/hurricanes/lara-and-eric-trump-backed-prophet-claims-god-told-her-hurricanes-were-man-made-and-they

As Deluge one id0tically suggested, Florida probably got hit with hurricanes all the time that nobody noticed before the latest weather radars were invented

You the captain doesn’t actually drive the ship right? I remember you mentioning that after you failed out of high school you briefly joined the navy (must have been a DUH hire) but surely before you also failed out of there you learned that part, right? The ship drifted into the reef after it lost power, maybe the ship’s mechanic was a male DUH hire like you were and didn’t properly maintain the engine?

What Im saying is that the new movement on the right and Right-wing media, including some outlets that mainstream conservatives enjoy, is to falsely suggest that any and all mishaps involving all women or minorities are the result of errors on their part and that furthermore to suggest that the error occurred because they were grossly unqualified for their job and only reinforced it because of DEI. 1) where is the evidence that she is “DEI” 2) She didn’t act alone she was just the ringleader of a group
-
The new (old) conservative mantra is that anyone who is not a straight white male is inherently unqualified for any job therefore if they are even remotely connected to anything bad happening and DEI is to blame Meanwhile straight white males can go around causing disasters left and right: Titanic, Hindenberg, Exxon Valdez, and so on…..and it’s “these things could happen to anyone”

DOJ charges former 2016 Trump campaign adviser over his work for sanctioned Russian TV By — Eric Tucker, Associated Press By — David Klepper, Associated Press Sep 5, 2024 7:40 PM EDT WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department has charged a Russian-born U.S. citizen and former adviser to Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign with working for a sanctioned Russian state television network and laundering the proceeds. Indictments announced Thursday allege that Dimitri Simes and his wife received over $1 million dollars and a personal car and driver in exchange for work they did for Russia's Channel One since June 2022. The network was sanctioned by the U.S. in 2022 over Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Simes, 76, and his wife, Anastasia Simes, have a home in Virginia and are believed to be in Russia. … https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/politics/doj-charges-former-2016-trump-campaign-adviser-over-his-work-for-sanctioned-russian-tv

*sigh* Yet again you’re showing that you have no idea what you’re talking about, making up claims with no evidence. Do you not know the difference between budgeting and spelling? The government -including the President- can only SPEND money that Congress has allocated in the BUDGET. The President doesn’t have secret sources of money. Not when congress is full of Republicans who refuse to reconvene because they want to exploit the hurricane for political advantage. Johnson slams door on Congress returning for disaster aid Congressional leaders say new disaster spending legislation can wait until the lame duck. Hurricane Milton’s rampage is not swaying House Republican leaders who oppose returning to Washington to approve billions of dollars for disaster assistance. President Joe Biden on Thursday said lawmakers should return to Capitol Hill “immediately” from their preelection recess, echoing pleas from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers from the afflicted states. But despite questions about the solvency of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster fund, House Speaker Mike Johnson and top appropriators insist the agency can manage just fine — for now — with the $20.3 billion that Congress freed up for it late last month. That money is for the fiscal year that ends next Sept. 30. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/10/10/biden-johnson-congress-fema-disaster-aid-00183327 Furthermore Trump and republicans keep repeating very specific lies that are demonstrably false like Biden isn’t returning calls from governors in affected states or that FEMA is only offering $750 in compensation, or that the Disaster Relief budget approved by congress has been reallocated to illegal immigrants.
