  1. Kind of, but now the rest of the story... The ban didn't actually have any effect on what had happened up to that point. The sale of AR 15 style rifles actually increased. Manufacturers found work arounds. There's an argument that mass shootings increased after the ban died. The theory is it was the increased magazine size that is blamed for the increase in deadliness in attacks. However, I hear it is also easy for the type of people who would break a law to find work arounds for magazine size. https://www.wsj.com/articles/americas-failed-attempt-to-ban-assault-weapons-11617285945 And even if you could control that, effectiveness of such a ban would depend on your definition of "mass shootings." Broadly defined, "assault rifles" are used in less than 3% of mass shootings. Also how are you going to grab America's existing 20 million AR-15 style rifles? So if that's all you've got to save America from mass shootings, try again. What's your specific solution that could actually work? You don't actually have one, do you? You've got some talking points handed down from the Biden regime and their secretarial pool in the MSM, and a posture of bogus, morally superior insights that under closer scrutiny are all pretty much useless.
  2. Dave Reuben discovered some interesting facts from Pew research: * "In 2020 54% of all gun related deaths were Suicides. 43% were murders." That one originated from the CDC. * The Gun Violence Archive definition for mass shootings says they involve shootings of 4 or more people regardless of whether any of them died. Those who did die from such incidents only numbered 513 in 2020. * "Regardless of the definition being used mass shooting incidents in the U.S. only account for a small fraction of all gun murders that occur nationwide each year." * "In 2020 handguns were involved in 59% of U.S. gun murders. Rifles (and that would include what gun grabbers want to call assault weapons) were only involved in 3% of firearms murders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnBcabfxzRU
  3. Could be. I doubt they'll stop mass shootings though. Go ahead though. Convince us. Show us what you're talking about.
  4. What's unique? Do you mean most guns per capita. That sounds about right. Which should tell you it would be pretty much impossible to grab all the guns using existing law. But are you trying to say mass shootings in America are unique or even greater in number than other countries. I don't think that's true. You may think it's true if you're quoting fake news, quoting Obama quoting researcher Adam Lankford but when you've seen all the information it's hard to take that guy seriously. Try these two: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2018/09/05/does-us-lead-world-mass-shootings/ https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/aug/29/john-lott-jr-adam-lankford-botched-study-claiming-/ Lankford won't release his data but John Lott does and it shows America isn't even close to leading the world in mass shootings per capita. You're more likely to hear about the American mass shootings on western media though. Doesn't mean you wouldn't want to do something about what mass shootings there are though. Which reminds me, what exactly are you three wanting to do about mass shootings? Specifically. Is it a secret or something. You can't grab all the guns without going totalitarian. Is that what you want?
  5. You don't think they're trying to do that? Let's say they could though. Is that it? The end of mass shootings and gun crime in America? Do I understand you correctly? Are you saying you want to grab all illegal and legal guns in America. You do know there are more guns in America that there are Americans, don't you? Many, many more.
  6. Notice how they skitter when you ask them to be specific about what they actually want? That always makes me smile.
  7. Which guns? Chicago guns, you mean? I think you may be watching too much CNN. https://www.guns.com/news/2017/01/04/blitzer-claims-many-of-chicagos-guns-come-from-indiana So maybe you won't be able to save America or not even just Chicago by grabbing all the Indiana guns. What exactly are you guys proposing anyway?
  8. Meanwhile Big Pharma's lobbyist are putting out multiple millions to lobby government. I wonder which is responsible for more American deaths. As one small example, would Fentanyl be an "assault drug?"
  9. I see. So you don't want to grab the illegal guns then? Or are you just admitting it isn't possible? Is it just the legal ones you want grabbed? If grabbing all the guns isn't what you want, what do you want? Specifically...
  10. Fentanyl isn't illegal.
  11. You have a better chance of controlling the flow of Fentanyl from China than you do of grabbing all the guns in America.
  12. Over on our right wing side of the information highway were allowed to know the largest recent rise in legal gun ownership is among minorities and women. Those aren't hunters. They're people who want to protect themselves.
  13. So I hear the police just shot a guy with a gun outside a school in the gun-free utopia of Toronto. https://www.cp24.com/news/male-shot-by-police-near-scarborough-elementary-school-1.5919813 Surely that can't be. Haven't we been told all morning this kind of thing only happens in America? Danforth shooting anybody...
  14. So many? Or are you presenting what you believe is an exception to prove the rule? And I think you may be over-selling the guns you believe were on the street during Saddam's reign:
  15. You're no more Libertarian than those progs on the Conservative leadership thread pretending to be concerned an actual Conservative might gain control of the party are Conservatives. Cruz was not talking about "cops everywhere." A libertarian would have understood the distinction between protecting the public and "cops everywhere."
  16. Of course, you can. Start here: How China flooded the U.S. with lethal fentanyl, fueling the opioid crisis But fentanyl is not the only drug or even the major drug associated with mass shootings. I mention it only for the harm it's been doing to youth.
  17. No. You're incorrect. Depression, anxiety, self-harm, violence can all be connected when you're looking for root causes.
  18. Seriously? You've never heard of the Conservative and most Libertarian belief that the first and some believe only purpose of government controls is protection of the the public.
  19. If that really bothered you, you'd be pushing for fentanyl controls before you worried about anything else.
  20. You haven't been watching the news lately then. Or maybe you have but aren't able to discern the facts out of the way the 5 0'clock liars here present them. Yes depression, suicide and even violence has been increasing in Canada. I haven't been paying much attention to Europe but they might see a decrease in violence as the pandemic slowed immigration. Also if you had clicked the links instead of offering your expertise on what you want to believe the evidence is for increased drug use you'd know there is good reason to wonder why all recent mass shootings have been by perps who have been drug users or recently got off drugs.
  21. Not for hunting, or at least not just for hunting. I'm a Canadian who's lived in the country. You don't just want a gun to hunt with. There's the self-protection element when you're an hour or more away from police. If I was an American it wouldn't just be isolation that would inspire that reaction. Then there's the idea gun ownership slows the Government's urge to totalitarian authoritarianism. In America, yeah, I could see that as a concern. Here too, but Trudeau-style authoritarians are controlled by an ever-present American line as to what they'll tolerate.
  22. Well, there is another possibly determining factor here. Drugs: Could SSRI Antidepressants Be One of the Causes Behind These Mass Shootings? Tucker Carlson: Following Texas school shooting and Buffalo tragedy, leaders should ask this question And another possible influencer in the recent flux of incidents may be social isolation out of the pandemic.
  23. That's a more complicated question than you suggest. First of all, define your terms. What's an "assault rifle." Do you mean a rifle with an appearance that frightens you? Or do you mean, "a selective fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine." Why are you talking exclusively about "an 18 year old buying an assault rifle online?" You seem to be inferring that's what the Texas shooter did. He didn't. https://nypost.com/2022/05/25/how-texas-shooter-salvador-ramos-bought-guns-hatched-sinister-plans/ Then you put the restriction on it that there must be no restrictions. Lose all the emotionally charged language and try again if you want an honest, rationally determined answer. As it is I don't get the impression that's what you were looking for and hysterical hype doesn't interest me.
  24. " plenty of evidence he was mentally ill" So we agree on that. But you still think the problem was the gun, right? Fine. Tell me exactly how you're going to fix the problem by simply dealing with the guns. What specifically do you want to do? And remember the problem doesn't just exist in Texas. Go ahead. Give us the solution. How exactly are you going to save America?
  25. But basically you seem to be telling us now, the problem isn't that there aren't existing laws but they aren't enforced properly. Believe it or not you could maybe talk me into that. Just can what sounds like the hysterical gun grabbing crap.
