I did make it past the first one. I didn't mind the first episode. It was basically the story used in 'Bend it like Beckham' but with Muslims playing the Hindu parts. I liked Bend it like Beckham. I like the Ms Marvel actress. But yeah it kind of lost it ep by ep to the point I won't be there season 2 if there is one. She-Hulk is the one taking a lot of flack right now. I watch it because I've been a fan of the actress since Orphan Black but it's getting harder to stick with it every ep.

Aragon isn't. Legolas is a sidekick in LotR. He's an accessory. He does get fleshed out a bit better in the movie trilogy version of the Hobbit.

Woke can be a thing. It can't be the only thing. The first requires good writing to make it work. The second only red flags the fact that good writing won't be a concern here. Woke can't overwhelm the story and characters to the point bad writers are allowed to make the story about their agenda. Do you remember that comic they were about to bring out where the superheroes super powers were woke traits like Snowflake and Safe Space? Didn't fly. Died quick. How about the last Terminator or the all girl Ghostbusters or Birds of Prey. Wikipedia tells us Terminator: Dark Fate was one the biggest bombs of all time. The other two and those like it put truth to the maxim "Get woke. Go Broke."

I imagine you read or at least saw LotR. Do you remember the part where Frodo offered Galadriel the ring? She wants it The way she reacts tells us immediately how the ring will corrupt her. She goes dark. She fights back the urge to take the ring. She knows the ring's power will corrupt her and bring destruction to all around her. That's not a Mary Sue. A Mary Sue might behave more like all of a sudden and against any known canon be presented in a say a prequel as not an Elvin sorceress queen but this unstoppable warrior princess of her youth who climbs up mountains stabbing her sword in the rocks and is never in any real danger or offering cause for concern. A Mary Sue is bad writing. Galadriel in LotR was good writing. See the difference?

Unlike the Lord of the Rings though there are canonic black people available to the mythology. Would a Targaryen accept a black into the family though? That would take some fanwanking to accept that, I must admit. Still...I can let it slip if the rest works. I'm easier going after forgiving a black Heimdall guarding the rainbow bridge of Asgard in the Thor movies even though the original Heimdall was considered the whitest of white. I'm getting like Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. "On the one hand there's this, but on the other hand..." But then when it comes to the last daughter wanting to marry a non-jew he goes, "No. There is no other hand." That's where I am with this Ring of Power, Amazon nonsense. There is no other hand.

Although, wait... With more study they tell me the reason Rhaegar was married to Elia Martel at the time he took off with Lyanna was his father Aegon approved on the grounds there was a distant connection to the royal line. Then again Aegon was nuts. So I really don't know but I do know the marriage between Corlyss and Rhaenys is canon and there is no bloodline connection. Although before the TV series an artist painted him like this:

It's considerable more complicated than that. Try this one: https://gameofthrones.fandom.com/wiki/Lyanna_Stark

Biden the Uniter...
Infidel Dog replied to WestCanMan's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I'm sorry I just assumed if somebody didn't know who those organizations are or what they did they'd look it up before yammering on like they did know what they were talking about. Here, let me help. The Convention of States Action are a 501c (that means tax exempt organization) that want to organize a convention of states to create constitutional amendments on stuff like term limits for congress, and limiting the federal government to its constitutionally mandated authority. The Trafalgar group is a well respected polling company. So if I saw those two names on a poll graphic I would assume the one had the other do a poll for them. -
Jeremy from The Quartering gives us what critics of Rings of Power (including Elon Musk) are actually saying about it: Only a 39% fan rating at Rotten Tomatoes BTW.
-
And remember Aegon Targaryen married Lyanna Stark to have Jon Snow.
-
But Corlys isn't a Targaryen. He's married to one. Wasn't he originally conceived as some sort of sea pirate or something?

Biden the Uniter...
Infidel Dog replied to WestCanMan's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Which? You mean the Trafalgar group? They're a polling organization. I think if you really want to know how accurate they are about an American majority thinking Biden's last speech really was an actual "Hate Speech" designed to incite conflict amongst Americans" is are they any good. Wikipedia tells us: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trafalgar_Group -
Speaking as a guy who unlike most of the above actually is a Fantasy fan, the first episode of House of the Dragons surprised me. Not bad. I'm waiting a few weeks so I can watch a bunch in one clump. So far the woke thing is a non-issure with this one. There's a black guy at the council table. Feels a little strange but we knew the world watched over by the Targaryen's was multi racial from Game of Thrones. House of the Dragon has the Targaryen's in Power. I can't bring myself to waste time on Rings of Power. Too much a fan of Tolkien's Euro fantasy mythos to watch it turned into something else. That doesn't interest me. The story doesn't sound that interesting from the reviews I've read either. They've turned Galadriel into a Mary Sue. That's kind of Sacrilegious to a Tolkien fan. It's guaranteed to suck because whoever wrote it that way doesn't get what made LOTR work. At present I won't waste my time looking to piss myself off watching such crap.

Not sure who "They" is here but it doesn't bother me. Losing Walt Disney's Song of the South is not much of a Zip it dee doo dah though. Not happy that they're trying to cancel Huckleberry Finn, Gone with the Wind and To Kill a Mockingbird either.

Biden the Uniter...
Infidel Dog replied to WestCanMan's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Meanwhile back at the thread topic... "Biden the Uniter..." There's this: Biden's fascistic hateful speech has many worried. Almost 60% in one poll say it was "a dangerous escalation in rhetoric to incite conflict amongst Americans. -
You sure about that? The raid on Mar a Lago was August 8. This below is from a New York Post article: Armed Secret Service agents stand outside former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on August 8, 2022. AP Photo/Terry Renna https://nypost.com/2022/08/18/judge-to-weigh-unsealing-of-court-documents-in-trump-raid/ And I haven't found it yet but I remember hearing how the secret service didn't contest the FBI serving the subpoena.
-
First of all if that was what happened it wouldn't be a strawman. There were three questions on allegations you made. None of them concerned the term "leak' which is what you took off in a desperate attempt to divert from the topic by building an actual strawman argument about whether or not it was an actual leak. And now you seem to want to divert to a strawman argument about strawmen. Back on topic, please
-
As to a strawman... That's another one I think Progs are hoping to redefine. I'm not sure what they're hoping to have it mean though. As it is... I think you're maybe talking about my brief mention of the term "leak." I've also used the term fed. Those are rhetorical devices. More like hyperbole. A Strawman would be if you took that small mention aside and tried to make the whole discussion about the technical veracity of such a thing. You know? Like what you just did.
-
Stolen? Why did it take them so long, then. They had the subpoena for a week. Even if you have an excuse for the 18 months Trump had the documents why would they wait a week to serve the subpoena? Improperly stored? Trump has a secret service detail protecting his residence. He put a special FBI approved lock on the storage storage room at their request. Or are you suggesting Trump Mickey Moused those white paper redaction sheets over the documents and spread them across his floor? You're ridiculous.
-
Sure... Because a cop's drug bust is exactly the same thing as selected, allegedly classified documents strewn over the ex President's office floor with white paper redactions hastily Mickey Moused over bits they didn't want us to see. Give us a break. We're not all trained to ignore the obvious like some of you seem to be. The DOJ had the FBI display what they wanted to get out and they had it planned from the break-in.
