https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/smt-gst.nsf/eng/sf09920.html The decision to introduce foreign investment restrictions for telecommunications was made in 1987, in the context of the Canada–U.S. Free Trade negotiations. you were saying?
-
So you think more foreign investors are the answer?

Whatever you say Dougie. So why exactly are Canadians paying such high prices for cell service? The answer will likely annoy and frustrate you. In 2017, the National Post reported that carriers price their plans high simply because they can. Here are some key takeaways about the state of the telecommunications industry in Canada: There is not enough competition in Canada for carriers to lower their prices Bell, Rogers and Telus networks cover over 97% of Canadians. New carriers would have to build a nationwide network of cell towers to compete Provinces that do have a strong fourth carrier (i.e. Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec) all enjoy lower rates; even from the national carriers Freedom Mobile is the 4th largest carrier, but has only been able to roll out limited coverage to parts of Ontario, BC and Alberta Deep-pocketed foreign investors are prohibited by Canadian laws Canadian telecom companies are among the most profitable in the world, so there's little incentive to change pricing competitiveness Canadians are still subject to data overage charges while US plans typically include unlimited data Try researching before you talk, makes you sound like a typical ignorant foreigner.

Well personally I'm with freedom mobile so I pay less than most, but rogers and bell are way too expensive. Compared to what people pay in the u.s. its highway robbery. Not the biggest debate issue of my concern for the election, but it is a good thing to see. Next have them do car insurance.
-
To lower the cost, the Liberals say they would open up the market to more competition and work with cell companies to offer plans that more closely mirror global prices. They would also implement an unlimited family plan. More rules could kick in after two years if the prices don't decrease enough. They should do something about that and car insurance imo.

America under President Trump
Cannucklehead replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Neal claimed that Congress “has a duty to conduct oversight of departments and officials,” and in this case, that duty involves evaluating the IRS policy to audit all presidents’ tax returns. The letter cites a 1924 law that gives the House Ways and Means Committee the power to request tax returns from the Treasury Department for review in closed session. -

Well theres many problems with that. Why shouldn't congress be allowed to review what the president has been paying or not paying in taxes? What if the IRS did not notice something, or if they were bribed? What about international taxes? I'm sure the IRS has no jurisdiction on those, and trump is an international businessman. -

So you'd rather one person decides what's right and what's not instead of Congress. Welcome to dictatorship. -

1812 was because of the Napoleon wars. Brits were conscripting america sailors so america got upset and tried to take Canada. After the Brits were done with the french they invaded america and burned Washington. That is why the presidential mansion is now called the White House. After that they combined upper and lower canada, essentially forming one colony instead of two. The rest is history.

Canada is a constitutional monarchy where the Queens powers are delegated to the elected pm and cabinet, etc.
