Canada is more British than the British, but that doesn't mean it wasn't also American. Upper Canada was moving towards the Declaration of Independence, and away from the Monarchy, until America invaded, and reversed that dynamic, the loyalists were losing ground among the civilian population real fast, then the Yanks burned down a good portion of Upper Canada and they changed their minds. That was the gamechanger, it wasn't that way from the beginning, as you seem to suggest.
-
None of what you said actually proves any of what I said to be wrong. United Empire Loyalists considered themselves British North American Colonists, not just British colonists, and most Upper Canadians were on the Americans side at the beginning of the war, hence the problems Brock had recruiting and hence why the Mohawks had to save the day. Most New Englanders were on the British North American side of the war too, it wasn't a one-way street. Stop with non-sequiturs, just because you wish Canada was more Canadian back in 1812, doesn't mean that it was. Only the French in Lower Canada saw themselves as Canadians at the time, Upper Canadians did not see themselves as Canadian, the Indians didn't see themselves as Canadian, those are just the facts, quit getting so offended by actual Canadian history.
-
The British North Americans never considered themselves Canadian, until after the Americans alienated them in the War of 1812, that's the point you cannot seem to grasp. British North Americans were in fact moving away from The Crown and towards America, prior to 1812, that is until America invaded. That was the gamechanger in terms of the birth of the Canadian identity outside of Lower Canada, and without that gamechanger occurring, we would be Americans today. Not surprised you don't seem to understand that though, most Canadians don't have a clue about the grand narrative of their own history, and clearly you are no exception. If it weren't for America, there would be no Canada, that's just a fact, but you refuse to give America the credit they deserve for making Canada what it is. Meanwhile Dougie and I know our history, and give America proper credit for their role in the creation of Canada, which you cannot abide for whatever reason.

Nothing you just said has anything to do with the point I just made, you are again stating random historical facts, that I already knew, while pretending to add something cogent to the conversation. That's not a rebuttal to what I just said, that's a complete non-sequitur. You can state facts, sure, but you have no grasp of the big picture, and your retort to the big picture being presented, is to state facts that have nothing to do with the big picture. Step your game up, if you are even capable of doing so, that is. The only people who considered themselves Canadian prior to 1812, were the French in Quebec, the British North Americans, considered themselves Americans who were still loyal to the Crown, but still Americans.

We took no potshots, we just know our history, unlike you apparently. You want to pretend that most Canadians saw themselves as Canadians before The War of 1812, and that is just factually incorrect. The vast majority of people living in what today is Canada, considered themselves to be Americans, and it wasn't until James Madison invaded and the Yanks started burning down the villages and towns in Upper Canada, that the population turned on America, and stopped seeing themselves as American. Events that occurred afterward, that helped to form a Canadian identity, could not have happened without the War of 1812. If the Yanks had not invaded in 1812, and acted so rapaciously in enemy territory, there would be no Canada today, and thus there certainly wouldn't be a Liberal Party of Canada either. That's not a potshot, that's just having a grasp on Canadian history that wasn't spoon fed by the CBC propaganda machine, that helps prop up The Liberal Party of Canada, even as we type.

Talk about trying to distract from ahistorical prattle by going off topic with a list of facts not even relevant to the conversation, keeps digging his grave deeper and deeper. Sad.

The Death of the Federal Liberal Party

Kick the French Out, Let the Americans In, and Let the Indians Up > Keep the French In, Keep the Americans Out, and Keep the Indians Down Eskimo Communists disagree, but they would disagree now wouldn't they? F**k Eskimo Communism and the Confederation that it rode in on. -

As long as Canada exists, so to will the Liberal Party of Canada. All roads lead to the Liberal Party of Canada, until de-confederation. -
Yeah, it's like I say, Trump doesn't have to be Usain Bolt to out run the Democrats in 2020, and the Democrats are going to nominate a speech limiting, property confiscating, gun grabbing donkey of a candidate, so I expect Trump to coast to victory. Just coast, baby! Hehe, this time Miesha Tate's cornering advice will yield dividends, unlike the last time, poor Bryan Caraway.

What is Wrong With the United State?
Yzermandius19 replied to Iznogoud's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yeah, as someone who isn't socially conservative, I don't really care, but it would be fun to watch many of the left's sacred cows get slaughtered by social conservatives. Like you say, no enemies on the right. -

I was hoping Trump would pick Amy Coney Barrett to replace Kennedy, but knew he'd go with a Kavanaugh type, and it seemed pretty obvious from the moment Kennedy announced that he was stepping down that Kavanaugh himself would be the pick. Barrett makes a lot more sense as a Clarence Thomas replacement though, Trump might actually do that. -

Oh indeed. Never Trump Cucks in Deep Blue States are quite irrelevant, especially Maryland NTC's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO1oUY6HS90 I'd actually embed the video, but the moderators seem to think that doing so is "image trolling", or something, so I guess I have to refrain from actually embedding videos in the future. Everyone else gets to post videos at will, but ol' Yzermandias is being stalked by moderators looking for me to embed a youtube video so they have a lame excuse to suspend my ability to post content on this forum, so I have to watch my back. -
NHL General Thread

Even if he gets hurt for half the year, every year, from here on out, the scoring that he does when he's healthy will be worth the price tag, especially if he's healthy when it matters, in the playoffs. Not too many players in the league that you could say that about either. -
Trump's approval ratings have very little to do with how informed or uninformed the American public is, and the same goes for the approval ratings of Trudeau, Macron, May or Merkel and how informed the general public is in those nations. Assuming that Americans are less informed because more of them approve of Trump than other nations approve of their leaders, is an assumption that will lead to faulty analysis.

What is Wrong With the United State?
Yzermandius19 replied to Iznogoud's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Money in politics is free speech, federal gun control is also unconstitutional, and the SCOTUS with a 5-4 conservative majority will protect both the first and second amendments from the Democrats trying to attack those rights, no matter what bat s**t legislation the Dems happen to pass to try and neuter them. Dougie considers that to be a good thing, and so do I. What's to clarify? -

America's gun problem or is it?
Yzermandius19 replied to paxamericana's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Everything in moderation, some people deserve to be shot and killed, for sure, the rest can go in peace. Gun violence is not inherently negative, circumstances matter, the left might be blind to that, but we certainly aren't. -

Lefties love those Pre-Crime programs though, especially in places like Chicago, and if you don't support the anti-Gun Pre-Crime programs, then you don't care about gun violence and want people to die, or so they think. At least that nonsense makes for a good laugh though.
