Whoa there fella - it supports the fact that immigration policy changed after 1960 - or do you somehow disagree with history. Did subsequent policies become more lenient towards non-white immigration? I think the answer is clearly yes - unless again, you disagree. It's neither good nor bad, just a fact - unless again, you disagree. In case you missed it, Taxme did not say Canada was trying to make whites a minority - only that non-Europeans were being outnumbered with recent immigration. My own beliefs are that with a sound public education system curriculum - including accurate history - second generation Canadians - regardless of their parents' origins - will be as Canadian as anyone. That's the goal - ensuring we all understand what is is to be Canadian - whether we're born here or "come from away".
-
Taxme was completely accurate - but obviously you don't believe that could ever be true. Perhaps a little history is in order. Here's the link you requested - when viewed through today's moral lens, it might be viewed as racist - but times were different on many levels. The state of our country as it was building it's own foundation, the fact that we were a commonwealth country with close ties to England and the practices of our Commonwealth brothers and sisters - and also the state of other countries in the world. Layer that on two world wars and a depression and you get a better understanding of "protective" immigration policies. https://pier21.ca/research/immigration-history/canadian-immigration-acts-and-legislation

Doug Ford - leader of Ontario PCs
Centerpiece replied to ?Impact's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Too funny (in a sad way). There really is NO moral "high" ground in politics today - only a question of how low a party or leader can sink. Witnessing the Liberals fiscally disastrous last 10 years and their frantic efforts to buy the upcoming election on the back of yet more debt is a testament to the depths that these Liberal rascals can stoop to. Add that to the overt lies that catapulted the fresh, new "transparent" Trudeau government to power and Doug Ford is looking like a breath of fresh air. By the way - there's been a lot of speculation and second-hand information that Ford was somehow involved in dealing hash 30 years ago - but the fact is, he was never even charged with anything, let alone being accused of being a criminal. -

Perhaps you'll remember that when out-of-context snippets of Conservative speeches inevitably get reported and repeated ad nauseum.......... -
Trudeau's handlers are now keeping him away from the media. The worst thing that can happen to a narcissist is to have the veneer of superiority flayed from their body.....and that is what has happened. To NOT be adored, to NOT be idolized - to be thought of as a clown can devastate the psyche. Seriously, he may be headed for some sort of mental break.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Mike Harris came to power with two landslide majorities on the heels of David Peterson and Bob Rae's disastrous terms that spiraled Ontario into a deficit/debt crisis that arguably was even worse than today. Much the same medicine - certainly the same fiscal mindset - will be needed to get Ontario back on track. Harris ultimately failed because after getting the books in order, he could not bring himself to move towards Compassionate Conservatism - maintaining fiscal responsibility in order to provide efficient services and look after the most vulnerable . So his legacy was a mixed bag of important accomplishments and residual pain. Lets hope that Doug Ford can learn from history. You're beating the wrong drum. Like with Trump - but not LIKE Trump - a growing sector of the public is sick and tired of the politically correct drivel that comes out of the mouths of people like Wynne and Trudeau. Ford has the common-man skill of keeping things simple - and repeating 3 or 4 things that connect with people. When pressed on where he would find "efficiencies" - he said he'd find 4 cents on the dollar. People can relate to that - it's simple - and they can imagine doing that with their own budgets. The more the Liberals gang up with personal attacks - the more his simple approach will ring true. The high-brow crowd will never understand - but just watch it unfold. -
Very clever. No matter how good or bad your morals might be, they can always get worse.

Bill Blair says storefronts and the Black Market will be almost eliminated if the legal solution offers a good price point, accessibility, and variety. Will governments be able to constrain themselves on taxing the product so that the price-point is at least competitive? We'll see. As for variety - that is the scary part. The Black Market will offer increasing levels of THC - or combine pot with other dubious ingredients. How will the government respond to these unhealthy, if not dangerous offerings? And finally, the justice system and sentencing.....currently, we have laughably weak consequences for selling an ILLEGAL substance. How can this same justice system enact TOUGHER penalties for selling a LEGAL substance? This shameless pandering for votes was a main plank of Sunny Ways. As with deficits, we'll be paying the Piper for years to come - fiscally and morally.

Justin Trudeau, another Kardashian

I thought it was some sort of joke but it's real. Since the PMO had nothing to do with it, is there any conclusion other than Trudeau himself thought it would be a good idea? Certainly feeds the narcissistic narrative. Reading the article, even The Star has outdone itself in shilling for the Liberals. https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2018/03/16/our-prime-minister-as-a-pinup-model-justin-trudeau-calendar-rewards-his-fans-every-month-of-the-year.html -

If we followed your definition - we'd all be robots - programmed to act exactly the same way under any condition. My friend, you have a lot to learn about human nature. Take the age old battle against poverty. Fact (information) - some people are poor. How do you help them? There are many people with many different opinions about why they are poor - and what to do about it. Perhaps you've heard the word "love". It can make you feel crazy - and sometimes do crazy things. Same girl, same guy that everyone else sees but it's different for them - they are in love - illogical love. Same information - different ideas. Human nature - emotion - creativity - survival. A final point - most people on this board have learned to get their information from multiple sources - and come to our own conclusion on how accurate stories are. In other words - don't immediately believe everything you read - or hear. Don't be a robot. -
Here's an interesting video from the Bill Maher show - Chrystia Freeland tying herself in knots trying to reconcile "diversity is our strength" with the reality of Muslim extremist elements.

That will be interesting. There is a federal election next year. There is a good chance that Jason Kenney will be Premier of Alberta and Ford will be Premier of Ontario. They will both strongly oppose Carbon Taxes - along with Saskatchewan. Let's see what happens when Trudeau tries to IMPOSE a carbon tax on Ontario while trying to win Ontario's votes. And make no mistake, Ford will make it clear that's what Trudeau will try to do. In my opinion, that's the elephant in the room - either way, Trudeau will lose a lot of seats in Ontario if Ford gets in. If Trudeau imposes the tax, he'll lose. If he tries to walk away from it, his track record of lies will bite him. Interesting indeed. -
When you recklessly pander for ethnic votes, sometimes it comes back to bite you. Liberals and the NDP have been finding that out.

It popped into my mind the other day but Lorrie Goldstein summed it up nicely in today's Sun. Kathleen Wynne clearly stated that because Ford was cancelling the Carbon Tax, 40,000 government jobs were at risk. She made a direct connection that her carbon tax is going to pay for public sector salaries - not for "investments" in the environment. But then - we all knew that, right? http://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/h-wynne-spills-the-beans-on-carbon-pricing -
Stanley verdict not to be appealed

Just sayin........assimilation (or killing and slavery) was good enough for pre-European Native Americans as they fought among themselves. The dominant tribes were only too happy to side with the French or British to continue their battles. The argument that if we just left them alone they'd all be happy little troopers is ludicrous. The term Warrior didn't evolve from planting corn. As I said - don't judge history through today's moral "standards". Although there are still residential survivors (SOME who actually benefitted from that time) , we're not talking about a single generation. The vast majority of First Nations people have been born after 1970, comprising more than almost three generations who had no knowledge of the Residential School System. Stop the victimhood and find your own path to joining the rest of us - we're not all white. Pick a colour - you'll find it. If people escaping war-torn countries and discrimination can find their way - often starting from nothing.......why can't our own indiginous brothers and sisters so the same? The path is there - it needs people willing to take the necessary steps - and leadership that wants to finally start to make things better. -

Stop the victimhood. If indiginous peoples went back to the "old ways", chances are pretty good that our 600 "nations" would revert to fighting among themselves - and demonstrate the "racist" attitudes that they insist are so prevalent today. Before the arrival of Europeans, Indian wars were commonplace - and Native American peoples all across North America had their own customs for dealing with captives. Depending on the cultural region, captives could be killed, kept alive and assimilated into the tribe, or enslaved. Keep that in mind when judging history by today's moral "standards". -

Polls show that he was the most unpopular/polarizing choice for Ontarians......but he has unique voter distribution advantages. Ford Nation may very well deliver several/many GTA seats - an area where PCs have not done well recently.......and the PCs are traditionally strong in rural areas. From that perspective, he may be the best choice. As for his polarizing image, he has been so disparaged and maligned by his critics that there's a big upside if he can shave off a few rough edges. -
Looks like Trudeau has alienated yet another country by refusing to meet with the King and Queen from Belgium: Link: https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2018/03/12/trudeau-skips-meeting-belgian-royalty-business-delegation.html OTTAWA—Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is raising diplomatic eyebrows for not meeting with Belgian royalty and business leaders during their week-long visit to Canada. Trudeau has no plans to meet with the Belgian royal couple, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, or their delegation of 150 business leaders, academics and political leaders, who arrived Sunday.

I doubt you watched the videos. Your obvious extreme bias prevents you from acknowledging that these repeated "deer in the headlights" reactions clearly indicate his inability to grasp issues. Never has a leader been so "scripted" - mind numbing talking points and reading prepared spin comments. Paul Martin, Jean Chretien, Stephen Harper - heck, even Stephan Dion were able to speak "off the cuff" to reporters.

Maybe reading this over will give you a better idea of things.......30 shots of alcohol and an SUV matching the one that was stolen. https://www.thespec.com/news-story/8105875-witness-in-stanley-trial-admits-truck-stolen-maintains-farm-visit-was-for-tire-help/ -
I was skeptical when he was running but quite frankly, I never thought he would be so challenged to communicate. He's very slow on his feet because he truly just does not grasp any of the issues in a substantive way. Here are four good examples that cumulatively make it clear that he's not fit for any type of leadership position: Here's our PM speaking to reporters about Trump's tariffs - incoherent: https://www.spencerfernando.com/.../train-wreck-watch.../ Here he zones out for a while discussing Korea: https://www.spencerfernando.com/.../watch-trudeau-goes.../ How about watching him answer Rosie Barton's question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15-5O4UPM0U Or how about Canada being only 100 years old - after spending a half billion dollars on 150th celebrations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1QQsQe6oDc

An interesting scenario is the Carbon Tax. If the PCs in Ontario reject the Carbon Tax and win the June election - especially with a strong majority......and then Trudeau tries to "impose" the tax in some manner - then he will do so at his peril and run the risk of losing a bunch of Ontario seats. A second scenario involves the Alberta election in May 2019. If Jason Kenney wins,, he will be a very credible and formidable foe for Trudeau. On the surface one might think Big Deal - Liberals gave few opportunities to grow (screw the West, we'll take the rest)....BUT....Kenny is a very influential character - opposed to the Carbon Tax and very eloquent in his reasoning.
