  1. Yet the Bible is written by man and it could be a history, or it could be fiction. More than likely it is fiction based on some historical facts, something we are very familiar with in modern movies. In your own words, the Bible is inspired by God and written by man. The Quran is the word of God, recorded by a man. Both of those require faith in something that cannot be proven. I choose to question both of them, but accept there are people who have the faith on either side and I regard their faith equally. Certainly there are parts of Sharia that are compatible with western society. There are many other parts that are incompatible, and certainly those are the parts that many focus on. This also gets back to my earlier question back at the start of this thread dealing with Sharia being the law one chooses to govern ones own life versus the law that some people choose to enforce on others.
  2. So does that mean there is a third place you can go? Once you enter the system, are you compelled to stay?
  3. Does that mean I need to go out and buy one of those new Nike sports hijabs?
  4. It's called free will. The video game is not really that interesting if you use he cheat code.
  5. The why does he forsake them. I believe it was one of his disciples that had to create a loophole, but certainly one that is not consistently used by all Christians. I don't think Mennonite children are baptized until they are almost adults.
  6. There you go, you have taken the first step. Now seek out the Quran and learn about his message.
  7. So abortion, or killing children too young to reason is fine because they are damned anyway?
  8. What, did you seriously just type that? Maybe in a few generations you might get away with that, but now you sound like a holocaust denier.
  9. Yes, that one was priceless. We have healthy people paying for sick people - duh!
  10. Often physicians have a wide range of options to prescribe for any condition. It is not perfect, but sometimes they will choose a more effective option or one that is easier to administer*. Would having a limited number of drugs on the list cause them to focus on those drugs and not what in their opinion is a better option? --- *tangent There are a lot of examples of different forms of administering a drug having significant cost consequences, but probably the most common of these is the Epipen. Those can cost up to $500 or more, and of course have an expiry date so you end up throwing them out in a few months. An ampule of epinephrine and a small bore syringe might cost you $20 (or even much less in quantity). Of course the Epipen is over the counter, and the epinephrine is prescription thanks to marketing. Certainly those who have known severe allergic reactions should carry around an Epipen, and hopefully they have an insurance plan that covers it (although that raises the cost for all group plans) but nobody is going to equip their first aid kit with Epipens that will most likely be tossed out at several hundred dollars per year. It is a concern to those of us who lead multi-day wilderness trips, and usually on a volunteer basis.
  11. That was my excuse when I put only one bullet in the six shooter, spun the barrel, and gave it to my friend when we played Russian roulette. Now he did accept the rules of the game, he would be the only player to put the gun to his head so it was consensual. What would the judge rule in my manslaughter trial?
  12. A jihad is simply a struggle to attain something. The common Arabic understanding of jihad is the personal struggle to achieve a life without sin. The common non-Arabic understanding of jihad is war or terrorism.
  13. Yes, there are some that take that narrow view. Suicide occurs daily across he entire spectrum (age, sex, health, religious/non-religious, etc.) and there are some that exploit that with a lottery ticket.
  14. Two wrongs don't make a right. The whole IP mess needs to be cleaned up. Get the vested monied interests out of influencing our government with these stupid notions. Monsanto sues farmers when their viral seed infects the farmers land, it should be the other way around. Yes, they both did attend Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf which was run by the Jesuits but that might have more to do with it being the most prestigious private schools in Quebec. These well off families wanted the best education for their children and the networking that comes from attending these elite schools. Note that Justin did go to public school during his elementary years as his mother saw the benefits of being "normal". The high school did become secular during Justin's time there. Do you have any evidence that the Jesuits demanded the young students to take this oath you claim? Supporting male genital mutilation would be trying to capture the Jewish voting bloc, not Islamist. Easy, just click the '+' sign next to the Quote button. Anyone who relies on a condom is asking to be a dad, they are only 85% effective. They should be used in casual sex to help prevent transmission of disease but they need to be combined with another method of birth control to prevent pregnancy. It is your responsibility as a man to know that, they are not a free pass.
  15. That is all we need, one demented cult traded for another. The loving Jesus who will send you into the eternal fires of hell unless you supplicate yourself to him. At least if I submit to Allah I get 72 virgins are a reward in eternity instead of some gay place with angles and harps up in the clouds.
  16. Stop it with the O.T. denounce it now or accept that Christians are guided by the same vile laws as other religions. Jesus says many times that he did not come to abolish the old laws but to fulfil them. You brought up Jeremiah & Deuteronomy In the meantime please explain: But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. - Luke 19:27 I thought that was clear when I replied to your admiration of the inspired word of God.
  17. I have heard that excuse frequently as well. Will you denounce the Old Testament as being filled with many vile things?
  18. I would say any expressed hatred towards Muslims in general. I don't consider calling out specific acts by individuals as Islamophobic. No, if you want to call out say Female Genital Mutilation and say it is carried out by many Muslims. It originates from Africa, and is also practiced in some parts of Asia and the Middle East. Many of the countries are Muslim majority, although this cultural practice predates Islam. There is no mention of it in the Quran, although Muhammad is said to have viewed it as noble but not required. Many senior Islamic scholars and councils have made statements that it has no basis in Islamic law. You are quite right to call it out, and those who practice it and use religion to justify it. I denounce Muhammad for supporting it (and for many other reasons, but that is a different issue). None of that is Islamophobic.
  19. Your daughters are your chattel. And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do. If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her. And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters. If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish. And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free without money. - Exodus 21:7-11 Abortion is bad, but not as bad as murder. If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life. - Exodus 21:22-23 Beat your slaves to keep them in line, but don't kill them. And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money. - Exodus 21:20-21
  20. France has the highest international tourist traffic, about 12% higher than the US which is second. There was growth in 2015, but I haven't been able to find overall 2016 numbers yet. There was a decrease in Paris in the first half of 2016 and I haven't see the figures for the rest of the year, but it is important to note that there are many destinations in France for international tourists and while Paris is a major one it is also avoided by many as well. I visited France a couple of dozen times, and only once did I go to Paris. The French Riviera attracts a huge international crowd, and certainly on my wish list that I haven't made yet. Don't forget that 54 million is not international traffic, but yes Chicago is a major tourist destination. It is also on my wish list. Other than spending too many hours at O'Hare, the closest I've gotten to Chicago is the I-294 (perhaps once on the I-90 during off-peak hours).
  21. 1-((1-.992)*(1-.92)*(1-85)*(1-.71)*(1-.73))= 99.99925% Fairly close, not quite as effective as total abstention but getting there. Of course with all those methods combined it would certainly kill the mood. Note that the Copper IUD is the reason for the above high total, the other 4 combined are 99.91% effective. In practice the rhythm method is only 75% effective.
  22. What is your idea of proper protection? Do you realize that most forms of birth control are far from perfect. Yes they are many times better than leaving it to chance, but failure of birth control is very common. Top that with the massive campaign against birth control, including from very powerful institutions like the Catholic Church, and it is not surprising that there are many unwanted pregnancies. The Church is adamant that birth control to prevent pregnancies is forbidden, although they have opened the door ever so slightly to using condoms to prevent the spread of disease.
  23. That would be an interesting take. I support freedom of religion because of the history of trying to ban it. Is condemning religion incompatible with freedom of religion? Perhaps it is time to treat religion officially like alcohol.
