The glass used to be 95% empty, and the partisans were happy. Now it is 85% full, and the partisans are unhappy.

Then perhaps we are not teaching the proper basics. It is a good thing our Health and Physical Education curriculum has been updated to teach these basics. I know you are enamored with pedophilia and enthusiastic consent, but please lets focus on the curriculum.

Do you have any statistics to back that up? Last year there were 2,543,715 tourists visiting Canada from Europe.

Well even a broken clock is right twice a day. Hey, can we teach kids to duck under their desks again? -
True that, I read the curriculum. I have yet to get anyone pointing out what is wrong with the curriculum, only repeating trash from radical activists.

Generally I am ok with long posts that do not include long quotes. When someone tries to make a simple point, then quote half a novel it is ridiculous.- 1,890 replies

police shootings in US and Obama's comments

Yes, which goes to prove that white offenders are racist. Black offenders choose black victims 40.9%, white victims 38.6%, and others 20.4%. Racist white offenders choose white victims 82.4%, black victims 3.6%, and other 14.2%. This is about racist whites. -
I understand what you are getting at, but it is not outside the scope of the word. Merit is about deserving or being entitled to something. I understand that we commonly associate it we something earned by your deeds, but that is not an exclusive definition. Not only people merit something, it can be applied to inanimate objects or concepts as well. I agree however it is a poor choice of wording. I suggest they should have used terms like "preference", or "special consideration", etc.

Your point was about the school system teaching, ask you call it, Ontario's Radical Sex Ed Curriculum. I was trying to focus on the point, not go postal like the Evangelical right wing propaganda squad that somehow translates teaching body parts (head, shoulders, knees, and toes - and yes, what is between the shoulders and knees as well) into encouraging kids to have anal sex with farm animals. Are you not focused on the school curriculum? If not, then I really don't understand your point.

True, they are now grounded in reality instead of interplanetary space. The original claims were completely ridiculous, like the curriculum is about values which it clearly is not. I pointed out the curriculum was not even part of the original claim, just the wild rantings of people like McVety. Once we steered to the curriculum the original claims could no longer be supported.

Still Going to Buy the F-35, Really?
?Impact replied to Hoser360's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The super cruise engines on the F-22 reduce the IR signature far more than the F-35 with afterburners. Yes, the electronics on the F-35 are newer and faster, but what does that have to do with electronic emissions? -

Wrong, it does have a smaller radar cross section when viewed in one direction but that does not make it "stealthier". That is like saying I am stealthier when wearing camo green, but put me in a desert and suddenly I stick out like a sore thumb. There are still many factors that favour the F-22. -
I suggest you read the Criminal Code of Canada. It is a valid defense for your 14 year old daughter to have sex with my 13 year old son if he consented to the act. If she was 16 however it would not be a valid defense. Nothing is about encouraging kids to have sex, just acknowledging reality.
-
Sorry Betsy, but this is the real world. Only two (murder & theft) of the 10 commandments apply here, and age was never a factor in the one you are thinking of anyway. In the real world 13 year olds do engage in sex (including home run, which you never answered). We can encourage them not to, but reality is reality and not your puritan dream world. What is your suggestion if your 14 year old daughter has sex with my 13 year old son, even though they both agreed to? Do you want to throw her in prison for 30 years with adults who will more than likely abuse her?

The costs and wastes of official bilingualism
?Impact replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I guess you haven`t been to the US. Spanish is spoken by 55 million people (45 million as a first language, the majority of which are natural born American citizens). You can get by very easily in English in Montreal, but venture outside of the tourist traps in Quebec city and you will have a hard time. -
What is 'sex!'? first base, home run? Are you Amish, kids can't even hold hands?
-
The Criminal Code of Canada still applies to youth sentenced under the Youth Criminal Justices Act, unless there is specific clauses in the JCJA that supersede it. I believe for sexual offences the Criminal Code still applies. That being said, the Criminal Code does make some very specific statements about the age of the complainant, the age of the offender, and the difference between their ages along with any position of authority that the offender may hold. The application of consent also is considered given the difference in ages.
-
If you took sex education, you would learn the difference.

The implication is that the 12 year old has a choice to say no. This is the real world, not some make believe world where kids are 'pure' until they are old and married. It is your made up world that caused the many childhood pregnancies we used to see. There are still over 7 million young teen births in developing countries a year because of people like you who will not allow our kids to learn about sex and empower them to say no.

I give the official sources, and get back Dr. Charles Dingbat McVety — president of Canada Christian College of Nut cases and Crackpots The curriculum, if you care to actually read it, addresses consent in Grades 6 & 8 (ie. not 6,7 & 8 year olds but 11-13 year olds). The main point they are trying to get across is the consent has to be actively given - only yes means yes and only for defined activities, no means no and a non-answer or anything other than an explicit yes means no. Stop listening to nut cases like McVety.

Satire is always dangerous. Many of us appreciate it, but unfortunately it is often misunderstood. While language barriers of on-line forums is a big problem, even here where most of us have English as either a mother tongue or at least a fairly good command of the language there are still cultural and other biases that tend to get in the way. This is best illustrated by reading the comments section of a major media publication when there is a satire piece, one that has even blatantly been labelled as such, and still the commenters will be upset.- 1,890 replies

Instead of trading barbs from the Huffington Post, Toronto Sun, CTV, and campaign for crackpots, lets get back to the one and only source that counts, the Ontario Health and Physical education curriculum for Elementary and Secondary schools. Debating what the idiots in the press and nutcases have for an agenda is meaningless.
