  1. I like that on the Fourth of July the Canadian Dollar has reached the highest above parity in Years. It's at $1.04
  2. There was a certain amount of Irony in that post. I was lightly following the game while partaking in large amounts of expensive beer downtown.
  3. The Argos won the Grey Cup the year they signed Ishmael did they not?
  4. It's either that or be a Ti-Cats fan. The Argo's had a clutch win on Friday. They were able to kick 2 FG's in less than 2 minutes because the CFL does not allow teams to run the clock down. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.
  5. Here's the thing about the CFL, it way to simplistic. When you shorten a drive to potentially 3 plays instead of 4 is limits what an offense can do. Draw Play, Pass. Pass, Pass. Where as in American Football, you get 4 plays to develop something and the defense has to match, it the greatest example of Chess on a sports field. Do they even do play-action passes in the CFL? Oh wait all the snaps are from the shotgun so NO! The 20-yard end-zone is almost comical too. As with the wider field. It's like they do things to make it harder for an offense to do what they want but by adding to every dimension of the field and allowing an extra player. And yes the Rouge is stupid, as is the fact they've never thought to move the goal posts to the back of the endzone, but I guess with a 20 yard end zone you wouldn't be able to score a FG unless you got within the 20. Also citing Great US College players that have flopped in Canada doesn't make the CFL better. Remember when Ricky Williams came up for a season. One of the best Tailbacks in recent NFL history didn't exactly destroy CFL records, but that's because he's a between the tackles runner and that's not the type of game the CFL is. I wouldn't be surprised if there are starting Offensive Linemen in the CFL that are under 250 lbs. One of the best CFL success stories in recent history is Cameron Wake coming from the CFL and playing in a Pro Bowl in his second season as an NFLer. Since there may NOT be a NFL season this year I'll attempt to watch a bit more CFL to get my fix. But it'll never be as good if you ask me. But as both an Argo and a Dolphin fan, I find watching Cleo Lemon very difficult.
  6. Another anti-Israel group plans to march in the "Dyke March" today. My link
  7. It's wildly ironic that a public transit user, who's fares are subsidized says drivers don't pay enough. Every year we pay $75 for a sticker, we pay insurance, we pay a gas tax then sales tax on top of that gas tax, Also if you're driving downtown you're paying for parking. Black Dog, you've never once said what's a reasonable price for drivers to pay, you just say it isn't enough. What pray tell is enough?
  8. So the City of Toronto would be mailing out bills to everyone and suspending licenses if people don't pay? Wonderful!
  9. And there's already a very expensive toll road that pretty much runs parallel to the 401. The 401, through Toronto is 16 lanes. You're basically saying anyone that wants to go from one end of Ontario to the other has to pay just for the privilege of entering the great city of Toronto. Total bullshit. If you want to toll it, it better be a provincial initiative and the profits should go to everyone in the province (or at least all the communities that use the 401) not just Hogtown.
  10. She certainly has nice boobs.
  11. I started the thread because I'm a fan of Coren. I like the way he doesn't play the PC game and the way he doesn't shy away from discussing faith issues. He also is one of the few people in the media that likes to address the hypocrisy of the way other treats the issue of Israel and Islam. I like how he told people on the Flotilla that if they really wanted to do good for humanity they should keep going a half an hour inland and protest the treatment of civilians in Syria. I'm sure he wants to make money, like anyone else does. He's got his hand in a lot of different stuff (TV, Radio, Newspaper, Books, Public Speaking) so I'm sure he makes a fairly comfortable living. I think it's a testament to his popularity that he's obtained a following largely because of a show on a Faith-based cable program. And if you watch his show he gets some very impressive guests. I'd argue better people go on his show on CTS than Sun News ever attracts.
  12. No I actually think quite the opposite, people who drive downtown for work probably can afford a modest toll. This issue all depends on what the goal of the toll is. A $1 or $2 toll per trip into the City would be a good revenue generation tool to contribute to the upkeep the 2 or 3 Toronto highway's (427 is debatable since it's the main way people get to the Airport in Mississsauga) But I've heard people say $5-$10 a trip is a reasonable toll. That would make driving downtown exceptionally expensive and GO would probably be the better alternative for most folks. But if you look at all the parking lots in each GO train station on the Lakeshore line in Mississauga, Oakville and Burlington it would be clear to most that GO can't absorb that many more commuters. BTW anyone proposing a toll on the 401 is an idiot.
  13. It's sorta like saying a band isn't supposed to try and sell their CD's and Merchandise at their concert. They are just there to sing.
  14. I doubt those people are contributing to the gridlock problem.
  15. Yes but not enough, it's never enough for left wingers than think anything a government spends money on is a good idea. It's true though, tolls and gas taxes are punitive to the poor. If you're low income it's likely you can't afford to live downtown. Then again if you work downtown and live outside it's safe to say you can afford a modest toll. If money was the issue you wouldn't have a car and you'd take the GO like our friend shwa.
  16. Paul Martin balanced the books in the late 90's early 2000's by cutting services. They both also benefited from a robust economy. They also downloaded services to the level of government below them. Why I'm bringing this up is that the kind of stuff that Harris did, are the kind of things we sort of need now. The province has a $19 billion deficit. Something's gotta give and considering the taxes we pay and the price we pay for hydro and gasoline I don't think we need to pay more taxes as a whole. How about you argue the issues with me instead of telling me I'm dumb.
  17. Wow an author trying to sell his books, what a concept!
  18. And contributing the economy by buying and maintaining cars. Drivers pay far more in taxes than any public transit commuter, how much more should they pay?
  19. I'll tell you, it's being expanded in the 905.
  20. I think those are subjective based on your political perspective. I think cost cutting and reining in public spending is essential. Workfare isn't offensive to me. BTW you didn't answer my question. What's the difference between the Common Sense Revolution and what Paul Martin did.
  21. What are the practical implications of putting toll roads on the Gardiner and the DVP? Putting a toll on the 401 is ridiculous because people use it to get places other than Toronto AND there is already a toll option in the 407. So let's say they put a $5 surcharge to get into the city. That's fair and not unreasonable. But what's to stop people from getting off the highway and taking a city street in? Just a thought.
  22. It's not that I don't have a clue. I wasn't politically engaged then, I was in high school much of the time Harris governed and I don't remember my education being horrible. That's like calling me an idiot because I wasn't politically engaged during Iran Contra. So give me some examples. Also what was different from what Harris did and what Paul Martin did on the Federal side during the exact same time?
  23. Or how about I just don't go to Toronto unless I somehow get Leafs tickets. Oh and the Gardiner doesn't have any Carpool lanes. If they built them there, then maybe you'd have a tangible way of dealing with the congestion. But you have a mayor like the last one that actually wanted to rip the Gardiner down. Left wing politicians don't want to reduce congestion, they want to make driving so unpleasant that you'd do anything to avoid driving downtown. Even use their crappy TTC and GO.
  24. My bad, I've never seen it, I've only heard from radio hosts with an agenda. But even it it was full of people on their bikes, there are other places to put bike lanes than on major arteries.
  25. Oh and regarding Toronto, replacing a lane on Jarvis and putting in a little used bike lane certainly didn't help the congestion problem did it?
