  1. It's obviously tongue and cheek. The meat industry does create a lot of greenhouse gases. But any attempt by a government to reduce the amount of Red Meat we should consume would also be considered Economy Destroying Socialism.
  2. Up until recently, China imported all of the West's plastic. They have since refused to accept Plastic Imports so it's been sent to other South Asian countries, making the problem worse. Just because plastic is recyclable, doesn't mean it always get recycled. You have to have a robust collection program. Glass and Cardboard present a convenient alternative to a lot of the Single-Use plastic waste, that's much easier to recycle.
  3. The proof could also be Portugal where decriminalization and treating drug addiction as a Health Issue and not a crime is somewhere else you can look. If someone is hopelessly addicted to an illegal drug, how does throwing them in prison help them?
  4. This mentality is why the US has the incarceration problem it has.
  5. Most people don't think about Shipping, but they think about Gas prices and their own personal transportation. Also EVs are a reality in personal transport, not yet for shipping. If Nuclear is good for Aircraft Carriers and Submarines, They should be good for International Shipping. But you'll need way more security. Can't be any Captain Phillips moments with Nuclear Shipping. Hydrogen could also be an alternative for Shipping. https://www.csis.org/analysis/hydrogen-key-decarbonizing-global-shipping-industry
  6. Lots of things aren't good. But should it land you in prison?
  7. The laws on the books for illicit drugs are a prohibition. That simply doesn't work. Also note that the prohibition on handguns, we have here, have made them an illicit product in that can bring in a tidy profit for those willing to smuggle it in. Sound familiar?
  8. I'm shocked there isn't more outrage about this by you lot. https://bc.ctvnews.ca/canada-s-single-use-plastic-ban-sales-of-bags-takeout-containers-cutlery-set-to-end-1.5955423#:~:text=As of December 2023%2C the,be prohibited at that time. I can't get too worked up about this one. Plastic waste is one of those things that everyone can see. Grocery Bags are a cheap source of Garbage bags, but actually buying garbage bags is not a huge inconvenience. I already have to buy those compostable bags for the green bin. In Canada, we're blessed with the infrastructure to "recycle". But unlike with glass, aluminum and paper products, the finances around recycling plastic is less appealing. It just so much cheaper to make new plastic. This is the type of thing Government needs to step in to assist with. It will actually save tax money in having to sort through all the plastic waste. It's mind boggling that a case of Bottled water goes for $3 and most grocery stores. That's something we should stop offering unless you live in a community with water safety issues.
  9. Same Toxic metals found in the phone in your pocket. Are you advocating for a more plant-based diet? Bio-Waste from livestock can obviously be used to generate electricity.
  10. Cite where I said "immediately". Governments influence the economy all the time. See Interest rates being set by a Central Bank. It's not my fault your extreme libertarian slant is extreme.
  11. You're not really debating at all. You just go ad hominem when you can't come up with a reasonable response.
  12. Ontario hasn't been with Coal for over a decade. Is the economy Trashed? Coal only accounts for 7% of Canada's Grid.
  13. The ones that think Coal is fine and we shouldn't transition away from Fossil Fuel usages.
  14. Criminalizing use of illicit drugs doesn't not solve the problem.
  15. It's just boring rhetoric. Doesn't do anything for discourse.
  16. You feel the same about taxes on tobacco, I assume? Why should the price of pollution be free? You can always elect governments that share your Libertarian views.
  17. Why bother with a post like this. It has no substance. No argument. It's just labelling me as a tool of the left. Quite tiresome.
  18. China owning the battery manufacturing industry is an example of them seeing the long game while we quibble on short term problems. A subsidy for an EV and a Carbon Tax is meant to change behaviour. They do the same thing with Excise taxes on Tobacco.
  19. Heating Bill is still quite manageable. Price of Gas would be a concern if I didn't invest in an EV. But again, the Carbon taxes are only a small percentage of the price of gas we see now. The vast majority is profit taking from Oil Companies. You'll see prices slowly go down now because the prices have likely curtailed consumption.
  20. I think we're seeing an orderly transition into cleaner forms of electricity and fuel. Natural Gas is a a great transitional fuel, so is Nuclear. I don't see anyone saying we need EVs and Solar Panels tomorrow. But haven't you noticed more Teslas on the road lately?
  21. Well Doug Ford was recently re-elected with new seats in Northern Ontario because he's pledged to mine for some of these rare Earth Minerals. China is dealing with this problem of dragging people out of poverty. But yes, their policies and emissions are a problem. But it's a useful idiot mentality to state that they need to stop building coal before we move past our reliance on Fossil Fuels. It's an excuse just to stay stay status quo.
  22. Well since this is an EV thread. China is dominating the Battery manufacturing market. They are doing way more to force adoption to EVs as well. We have members like Nationalist belly-aching about Energy independence regarding Oil. How about some independence regarding the manufacturing and development of Lithium Io Batteries. Sitting on your hands because China still uses Coal for energy independence is typical Useful Idiot mentality. Moving away from Fossil Fuels is the ultimate investment in our future.
  23. Looks like the Convoy Terrorists want to come back to Ottawa. Doesn't this violate many of their bail conditions?

And the rider should have known that when brushing by pedestrians!!!

You would have a point if the rider was brand new, but these guys practice riot control all the time, and charging through a crowd of people this is going to happen. The rider knew that going into this. But then again she posed a threat to National security and needed to be dealt with. It was like using a sledgehammer to beat in a small nail.

  24. F1 knows these concerns. A lot of the races are grouped together to reduce transport costs. I think F1 has also pledged to use 100% renewable fuels in the near future.
