  1. It's the cyclist that aren't being courteous by taking up multiple lanes with their "peleton" But yeah it is a first world problem.
  2. The only way to ensure that every child gets fed 3 nutritious meals a day would be to take away rights from parents. How do you ensure such a thing? Also I'm sure provinces and local school boards would reject a federally mandated nutrition program, they'd just want the money and do with it as they please.
  3. That, maybe, gets them a nutritious lunch or breakfast (assuming the child care includes food). Doesn't do anything about getting them a dinner. How often is food provided free of charge at public schools? And do you suggest a child has to be taken to child care by law? What about someone who's on the doll? they don't really need childcare?
  4. I wouldn't trust the Ontario government with the CPP. They'd spend the money planning on building and then cancelling windmills.
  5. No Bleep there's a suburb/urban conflict. People differ on ways once wants to live their life. Interestingly enough in rural environments bikes can be provide an annoyance too. This happens when large groups of people trying to re-enact the Tour de France on the weekend.
  6. I don't think anyone disagrees. I'm curious what you think the Federal Government needs to do to ensure that.
  7. Well they're already building the link from Union to Pearson, I would hope that's funded. If City council could actually decide something Scarborough should get some sort of new transit whether it be LRT or a Subway. That's funded. What Toronto needs is a Downtown relief line but taxes province-wide to pay for that is insane. Mississauga is slated to get an LRT going up to Highway 10. New transit is being built the government just wants a dedicated slush fund so they don't actually have to worry about being accountable about what they spend.
  8. By instituting another punitive gas tax? What government doesn't set a side money for in their budget for infrastructure spending? The GO-Train Lakeshore line service has doubled this year. It was done without a dedicated transit tax.
  9. You think absences of trolls that say offensive crap because they are A-holes affect a news websites revenue stream?
  10. You can write off travel expenses if you're self employed or you need your car for more than a simple commute
  11. You can still get anything delivered to your doorstep. You just should have to pay a premium for it. My fear with a "super box" is it'll be like my Hotmail inbox. I doubt I'll remember to check it frequently enough to clean out all the Spam, I mean direct marketing.
  12. You think people in the GTA would support this? Only people that would are people that already take transit. And I'm sure those people don't expect the increased cost of fuel to be reflected in fares.
  13. Perhaps it should be far more than that, as most forms of communication and financial transactions can be achieved without sending physical paper.
  14. We sure shouldn't be giving them more money. Parcel delivery is one thing but delivering bills and flyer to your door daily is becoming less needed by the day.
  15. When you see how the Government of Ontario wastes money it's not hard to see why some would want to starve governments. BTW what does all this have to do with Canada Post? The business model of Canada Post is completely faulty. Cuts most certainly should be made because few people mail letters anymore and the private sector does an excellent job at the business of moving parcels. I ordered some gifts on Amazon yesterday, I didn't even pay extra and the package showed up from UPS today.
  16. This isn't about who pays for what. It's about an inept government who have repeatedly proven they couldn't run a lemonade stand saying they've squandered the money given to them, so rhey need more, and are willing to stick it to average commuters across the province to pay for improved transit for people who already use transit. The big move won't reduce congestion. It'll help people who already take transit. Want to reduce congestion? Expand the 401? They've already made the collector lanes extend out to Mississauga without a gas tax increase.
  17. Baseball has a very healthy revenue sharing deal. And because they don't have a salary cap/floor, teams can make money by just pocketing the revenue sharing cheque (see the Marlins and Astros)
  18. Green Bay is one of the better run teams in the NFL. They're like the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the NFL. Locally owned and run. The NFL is such a popular league overall that it really doesn't matter if people show up to games or not for teams to be profitable. It's all about TV rights.
  19. In theory the money generated outside of the GTA will go to infrastructure there. But does anyone think this government could actually manage funds that way? I don't trust that this government can effectively run ANYTHING at this point let alone another massive influx of revenue.
  20. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2013/12/12/ontario_transit_panel_recommends_5centperlitre_gas_tax_hike.html Interesting that they backed off the HST hike which might be something people could stomach BUT the only "revenue tool" they decide to go with is the most punitive. Raising the price of gas raises the price of everything. And the Gas Tax isn't a sustainable way to raise funds. As vehicles become more fuel efficient the return is far less. Also if people actually do decide to use public transit the return is reduced. When will this plan go to the House? Will they try to ram it through and force the NDPs hand? I don't see how this happens unless the Liberals receive a mandate and policies like these have been proven to be political losers. Especially when you consider that it could only feasibly be done province-wide.
  21. The revelations from the OPG from the Auditor General are a complete embarrassment for this government. Yet another provincial agency full of scandals and corruption.
  22. They should reduce the number of days. These Super boxes are already a reality in many places. People must deal with them already. If a senior lives in an apartment building they have to deal with a Superbox set up.
  23. The sentiment described in the video is a lot of the reason why forums what people to "own" what they say online.
  24. But one could argue much of Canada Post's trouble is their pension, and its workforce is largely low skill. In Ontario yesterday we have an instance where the Auditor General took Ontario Power Generation to task over the lavish compensation for OPG staff and executives. Would you argue they deserve what they get simply because they are "higher skill"? http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/opg-fires-3-executives-after-auditor-general-s-report-1.2458723
  25. You say that in a thread where we're talking about people who run around putting paper in boxes?
