  1. Don't matter who the leader of the NDP is. They are only aloud to support what the grassroots tells them and are not aloud to have ideas of their own. If Harper was leader of the NDP they'd have the same policies. Now of course I'm not a Dipper but that's what I've come to understand thanks to this forum.
  2. I don't think it's really that odd that a social conservative, someone who wants the state to be involved with moral issues, would also have the view that the state should play a greater role in the economy. Rick Santorum had been criticized for not being fiscally conservative and being in favour of big government social programs.
  3. There have been social conservatives within the Liberal Party, so they would likely have a more left-wing economic view (if that's what you mean by fiscal liberal).

  5. $776 million surplus for this past year $258 decifit this year. Debt to grow to $8.4 billion.
  6. Maybe the PCs should look at negotiating with them then.

  8. "natural governing ideology" what's that mean?
  9. And what has happened to both of them? Unless something is done between the BC Consevatives and BC Liberals over the next year neither will likely have enough support to win an election.
  10. An interesting read, and there are other similar articles. http://m.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/british-columbia/bc-politics/shakeup-urged-for-lost-cause-bc-liberals/article2409937/?service=mobile
  11. Maybe Christy Clark will legislate in electoral reform, it would be her only way of not destroying the Liberals and keeping the NDP from power.
  12. BC needs a "Saskatchewan Party" that can merge the Liberals and Conservatives soon.
  13. The election is off. If there had been one I think McGuinty was in a strong position, even if he's behind a bit in polling. Hudak was set for a majority government heading into the last election and McGuinty just missed a third majority, despite his unpopularity. There was talk last summer that the Ontario Liberals would be in third place after the election.
  14. The Globe and Mail endorsed Redford and the PC Party, they're the party of change.
  15. In October Nanos had support for the Liberals two points higher and the PCs underestimated by two, and were spot on with the NDP and Greens.
  16. It was not him, it was a provincial leader who got 76% and resigned. I had heard of the name before but can't remember what it was or what province they were in.
  17. The Ontario Liberals are supposedly the most ready to go the polls so I don't know why the NDP or PCs would want to defeat them yet, it could lead to the Ignatieff-effect.
  18. You make an excellent point, Campbell got 80% and was turfed from the party. I can't remember what leader it was but I saw a tweet saying that a leader resigned because they only got a 76% approval. When you consider that Hudak's expectations compared to Horwath's was much bigger the fact she did worse then him in a leadership review is significant in my opinion.
  19. Polling has shown that Liberals and NDP are pretty equal in heir support for the idea. Besides Chretien I haven't heard any high-profile Liberals say the parties should merge, and as Chretien said he's only a small town lawyer trying to earn a living.
  20. They should also be concerned that after their best election result since Bob Rae's time as leader 25% of the party don't want Andrea Horwath to continue as leader.
  21. New Brunswick only pays for medically necessary abortions and PEI doesn't pay.
  22. The Alberta government does not have to fund abortions though. Danielle Smith says her government would not delist funding for abortions but a citizen led referendum could.
  23. For someone who was so sure of themselves Traveller's predictions aren't going so well with only one week left.
  24. They don't intend to delist abortions. They've said a citizen led referendum could happen on the issue but they won't legislate on it themselves. I don't agree with delisting abortions but I don't really have an issue with their policy.
