  1. I suppose your post implies that your patriotism cannot be question because you 'served' in the military. Being a soldier doesn't make you above criticism. And yeah, I absolutely question the patriotism of people who support Trump and his fascist BS - hiring family, firing anyone who disagrees with him, sending lies by Twitter, attacking the press and his allies, cozying up to dictators - while they simultaneously criticize Trudeau for his hair or his teaching career or saying anything remotely nice about China and Fidel Castro. These folks accept any degree of corruption from Trump, and act like the world is coming to an end if Trudeau says "Peoplekind", and expect him to bend over and spread his ass-cheeks for Trump and on behalf of Canada. I don't know if this describes you, but you certainly seem pro-Trump and anti-Trudeau so ...
  2. I don't need to refer to Google or anywhere else to rebut the worst of Christian belief, Betsy. Mere common sense and compassion for all humans is enough.
  3. I agree, and I am glad that from now on, you will be doing just that.
  4. Finally, after all these years, you are beginning to catch on!
  5. Be honest people - how many pairs of shoes have you smuggled back from the States?

The duties for US goods brought across the border into Canada by Canadians are, as far as I know, identical to the US duty on Canadian goods brought across the border by Americans.

Americans have a much higher duty free level at the border....$800 IIRC.   Plus some products are simply not available in Canada, at any price.

When I was younger and we shuffled off to Buffalo for some shopping we did smuggle shoes in.  Always wore a pair of throwaways coming back with a new pair on  and a new pair we had worn over the weekend.   Shoes were cheaper and a better selection.   We've been going south for the winter for years now and I have a closet full of shoes I've brought back although we were never specifically asked if we had shoes, just how much in total.    One can never have too too many shoes.

  6. Where did I slag Isrealis? Show me the exact quote, please, or admit you are wrong.
  7. True enough, but Harper also didn't jave a Trump loudly trumpetting their intention to deport immigrants. I don't think it's fair of Liberals to hold it against Harper for running deficits, despite promises to the contrary, because of world affairs at the time. By the same token, holding today's Liberals responsible for the US refugee problem now seems equally infair. But of course, if one simply wants to hate on the other side, it makes perfect sense.
  8. Perhaps if the previous Conservative government had addressed homelessness\addiction we wouldn't have such a huge problem and you all would be able to criticized Liberals withiut appearing hypocritical. Conservative's "tough on crime" and spending money on the building of "super-max" prisons while reducing resources for sicial service agencies simply make the problem worse. I have no problem agreeing that this government can and should do more to address these issues, among others, but I object strongly to the claim that this is a "Liberal" problem alone. Conservatives need to stand up and take responsibility and stop playing the victim card all the time.
  9. Yeah, I think politicians should have consequence for knowingly telling a lie. On the other hand situations can and do change and new information can come to light, necessitating a change of direction. Thats not lying, but people like to pretend the side they don't like simply lies instead of acknowledging that life is dynamic rather than static, and so governance must also be.
  10. This article is written to inflame. Inflammatory languange in any article is a signal that its short on facts and seeks to mislead rather than inform. If you have a credible source that provides facts instead of manufactured outrage, please share. Otherwise, continue being seen as gullible tool of someone else's agenda.
  11. What, exactly, have you had to change in your every day life because of "accommodation"? Accommodating newcomers/immigrants/refugees certainly hasn't removed anything from my Iife; I can say Merry Christmas if I want to, despite the desperate attempts of victim-prone conservatives to claim I can't. I can celebrate all the same religious festivals I celebrated as a child, plus some extras. I can vote for my preferred candidate, worship my preferred God - or none at all. I can work, or stay home. I can dress how I want and in some places, I don't have to dress at all. I have enough to eat and I have shelter and can live in safety and security, relative to many other parts of the world - including the US. In addition, in my lifetime, I have seen freedom and equality extended to even more people - women, blacks, gays - than was available to them when I was born. So please, tell me - exactly how have you suffered due to accommodation? How exactly, are Canadians not "first"? How does giving some homeless schmuck, with no job and no money, a place to stay make Canadians who have houses, jobs and money "second"? And, please note that the arguments from the conservatives go like this: "Why should we help immigrants when our own citizens are homeless, hungry etc? Shouldn't our tax dollars go to helping our people first", and then when ideas are raised that require tax money to help the homeless/hungry/etc, the argument becomes "Well, why aren't they working and finding their own house? Why didn't they save for retirement? Why should my tax dollars be used to help people who are simply parasites". And then they add, for good measure, "We rich people pay the majority of taxes as punishment for doing so well. The poor people, most of whom simply chose that through the decisions they make, pay hardly anything. So why should we have to pay so much to help them? As a matter of fact, the poorer people in our society shouldn't even have as much voting power as we who pay more taxes". You see how that goes? The Conservative Capitalist doesn't want to spend money on immigrants, or even (poor) Canadian citizens. They want to keep as much of the pie for themselves as they can, and you are taking up their cause for them. Certainly, we can always do better - solving issues of homelessness, poverty among single parents and seniors, addiction, better treatment of veterans, prisoners and even domestic and food animals. But that has nothing to do with *immigrants*; those are problems we would have even if we banned all immigration. Homelessness, poverty, addiction, crime - those are social issues that require political will to solve, not money. If you think that eliminating immigration or refugee programs because then that money would go to 'Canadian Citizens', you would be very disappointed. The government might give a few crumbs to those programs, but the bulk of money saved would go to tax breaks for the people who need it the least - those who think the poor are poor because they refuse to work, that the seniors are poor because they were too irresponsible to save, that anyone can make scads of money, and that it's unfair that people who make six figures should have to pay "such high" taxes and support all these n'er-do-wells.
  12. Oops, I didn't read the article --- apparently, this is for indigenous people, and it is only your Conservative paranoia victim-mantle seeking that made it into the "OMG, REFUGEE". Still, even if your delusion were true -- if the refugees weren't housed, they'd be homeless ... so what's the problem?
  13. Seriously? Is that how you operate your life? Do you slack at work because other people do and you won't quit till they do? Do you lie, steal, cheat and are only willing to quit when other people do? Can't you stand on your own two feet and take responsibility for your own behavior? And if you do, do you really think countries should do any less? This kind of BS is why the claim that Conservatives believe in "Personal Responsibility" is so laughable. They only believe in personal responsibility when it comes to the other guy, not themselves.
  14. The bottom 90% of all earners live on a fraction of the net income of the top 1% of earners. Does that change your mind? Didn't think so.
  15. Did I say or even imply Canada was the only nation? And why does that matter? The plaint "But Ma, everyone else does it!" didn't work when my kids were 10 and it doesn't work any better now from you. Damn right Canada should take responsibility for their past actions, good and bad, though I understand taling responsibility for the "bad" is not part of Conservative ideology.
  16. You must be very proud of Canada's history of refusing Jewish refugees.
  17. I wonder why you keep saying this. It seems to mean a great deal to you that Trump "matters more" on the world stahe and you seem to think we should care. But. of course Trump "matters more" and that is kinda the point; having a simple-minded, ego-driven nepotist as the head of government of what is still, arguably, one of the most powerful countries in the world "matters". He's what .. A year and a half in and he has essentially alienated democratic allies around the world and is currying favor with despots. And don't try on that bullshit about "your PM met with bad guys too" because the key difference here is that our PMs have not turned on and backstabbed allies the way that Trump has. Also, your dumb, but *very important* president has clearly made one of the worst deals ever; outwitted by "rocket man".
  18. Oh look, another diatribe against women who have had the gall to move beyond the kitchen, nursery and bedroom.
  19. "Police to march officially" is likely the salient point you are happy to ignore in your eagerness to claim victimization by the progressive/left/SJW. Police doing crowd control in their official capacity, out-of-uniform police as gay participants and as gay-friendly attendees are not unwelcome. As I pointed out previously, how would anyone know unless the individual advertised his/her religious/political stance or their occupation? http://lfpress.com/news/local-news/pride-to-london-police-you-can-march-with-us-but-no-uniforms
  20. Was wondering where you were just the other day.
  21. How would they know you were a conservative, unless you wore a tshirt? If you are wearing a tshirt proclaiming your conservatism, perhaps avoid ones like this or this . Even cops and military people could show up, if they wore tshirts like this one or maybe even this one. Why are so many conservatives so eager to grab the mantle of victimhood?
  22. Trump will matter less and less as he continues to alienate himself and his country.
  23. Of course you are; please do so to your heart's content. Was there something in "we can agree to disagree" that suggested you shouldn't? I'm just explaining why I'm not rebutting in return.
  24. I believe we've covered this before pretty often, so we'll just have to agree to disagree.
  25. Boggles the mind that Trump can insult anyone and everyone and no problem for Trumpsters - he's "negotiating" or ... something.  But let a leader of any other country, especially Canada, be even slightly critical of Trump/US policy and the character assassination begins.   Trump can harass, grope, assault women, break his vows and promises, lie, cheat, hire his family to important positions in the Government, fire anyone who opposes him, surround himself with yes-men, admire dictators, alienate allies, weigh-in on legal cases, offer pardons to cronies - Trumpsters are wet with admiration.

    Just mind-boggling.
