I agree they are so many other bills and examples that Harper regime undermined or ignored the Supreme Court that the prostitution laws is just one but the one which was in a most devious deceptive manner manipulated and forcefully implemented and it endangers the lives of some citizens (the most vulnerable/marginalized, the sex workers). Now maybe to you their lives don't matter to you and those of your kind because of their profession but it does to me and a great majority of good citizens of this country. I am always obsessed when the most marginalized like the poor, the elderly, the sick, the minorities, the natives are affected adversely by stupid laws. What is a dictatorship? It is like what we had up to last fall. A government who undermines the constitution and imposed laws based on their stupid ideology. A government who based on its stupid religious ideology decides how the nation should live their lives. We are gradually coming out of it now. It started with new laws coming for doctor assisted suicide. The government don't decide for us when we can end own own lives when we are terminally ill and in severe pain. We do. This is the start for a democratic system.

The Supreme Court of Canada is the vanguard of right and democracy in Canada. Its important function is to rule whether or not certain law or legislation violates the Charter of Rights and Freedom. It was very sad 9 years that this important symbol of democracy and freedom was purposely and deliberately undermined by the former dictatorship (Harper regime). I applaud the work of the court and deplore those dictators like Harper and his injustice minister Peter MacKay who undermined the court.

Very true. For the same reasons Israel has been seeking for decades to destroy Iran. However, as like in Iraq and Afghanistan they want someone else like US and us (Canada, Nato) to do their dirty work for them and suffer the human and economic consequences. They don't care about Canadian and US women and men drafted and dying or massive loss of civilian lives on Iran as long as they get what they want. That is to secure the state of Israel at any cost. They are aware that the Arab states will be easily defeated in any future conflict with Israel as they have been so because of their corrupt leaders, lack of unity and lack of skills and education and under developed cultures however Iran is the only country who stands a good chance to stand up against Israeli aggression if attacked and possibly win it too both economically and militarily in near future if it continues its path and establish close relations with the west.. Its highly developed industries and rich natural resources and highly educated and advanced human resources makes Iran a stand alone regional superpower and a rival to Israel. So they wish t destroy this chance and eliminate any possible risk to themselves and while doing so sacrifice many Canadian and US lives as they couldn't care less. This is a great post and I agree with many statements made in the post completely. What I can add is that there is a distinction between Iran which posters keep on referring to and the religious islamic government in power in Iran who clearly do not have the support or backing of a great majority of its people based on recent presidential and parliamentary results. Iran is an ancient country and a great civilization which now has the most progressive and educated people in the world and who possesses the largest gas reserves and fourth largest oil reserves and whose industries are well developed and rooted and has the largest car making industry in the middle east, not to mention the petro industries and steel industries and the fact that unlike its neighbors who are heavily relying on imports of military hardware Iran is manufacturing most of its own military needs thanks to the 8 year imposed war with Iraq and decades of western inspired economic sanctions many of its industries are self sufficient. Iran has been demonized purposely by Israel and the US in the past few decades. Once being a good guy of the middle east when ruled by the Shah suddenly became (or painted by Mossad and CIA) as evil and terrorist nation overnight after its revolution and standing up for its rights. If full democracy is established in Iran this will be a very positive development for the whole world in many ways and indeed this is a fact that Iran is a power and key player in both middle eastern and world affairs now and will remain so forever. It is best to try to establish a democracy in Iran rather than seeking anonymity and war since the latter has only strengthen the hard line elements within Iran government and made its economy stronger and independent but the former would bring back powerful Iran to the world scene in a positive way as the moderate elements heavily backed by a great majority of its population will gradually come to the top and take over.

It was released today and I am very glad that we are moving towards freedom of choice and a true democracy where citizens can decide for themselves how to live their lives (for which more steps have to be taken in future) or when to end their lives under certain circumstances if they choose to do so. Today is a good day for all citizens in a significant way. Now that the nation voted overwhelmingly to rid of the former ideological dictatorship (Harper regime) every day we take true steps towards real democracy in this country. I don't know much about politics in these regions but the innocent civilian casualties on Afghans may have played a role in this sad event. It looks like in the air raids many thousands of Afghan civilians have been mistakenly killed. Well all these people have relatives to avenge their deaths. Also religion runs deeply in Afghans' blood. So many of these defectors may feel closer to Taliban than Americans. Not to mention that 15 years is now past the Taliban so maybe many of their brutalities and atrocities committed by Taliban have been forgotten or not even seen by younger Afghan soldiers so they maybe fooled by their propaganda and see them as fighters for independence?

I wonder if they can ever restore their Empire (Persian Empire) and again take over half the civilized world. Likely not as the time for taking over territories and annexation is long gone but it amazes me how the pre-islamic nation who brought in the very first charter of human rights is now fighting for democracy.

The deficit is exaggerated. In 30 years time the 600 or 800 billion dollar deficit will be a very small portion of our GDP. As the economy is expanding (Even with modest After inflation growth of 2 to 3 percent) the impact of cumulative deficit dollars will be reduced. What may have been a huge deficit in 1983 (we had near 30 billion dollar deficit) is not so huge now because our economy has expanded 2.5 times since to 1800 billion dollars. In 30 years time our economy will likely be close to 5000 billion and the cumulative deficit at that time of 600 billion or even 1000 billion will not be such a burden for our children to pay (or keep it just prevent it from expanding).

Trudeau is the son the a prime minister not a farmer and born in Ottawa not some remote village to be a village idiot (and this shows your nature and hate and discredit you for everything else that you had said or will say) and we were in recession last six months of Harper and will be again if no action taken. The falling oil has been devastating for Canadian economy. He is investing for Canada's children by low interest money like when you borrow money to buy a house. Great budget. A nice change from the cut and burn budget we experienced many years under Harperism. Harperism also created a $50+ billion plus deficit when the economy needed it and then they cut and burned many years to keep their promise of balanced budget by 2015 (which they missed anyways) no matter who or how many they hurt they went ahead stubbornly. This liberal budget is a compassionate budget which starts with 30 billion deficit (almost HALF the deficit that Conservatives created and started in 2008-2009) and will very gradually reduce the deficit without hurting millions of citizens (contrary to what the conservatives did). Well now that it is clear the comments on 300,000 refugees was falsely made (which if it was deliberate then it was a big lie by anti-immigrant crowd of few and we all know who they are). That said I believe that we need to slow down a bit on immigration for a while (between 150,000 to 200,000 max) and select our new comers based on skills and education and wealth. Those wealthy immigrants must prove that they would create jobs for Canadians and be followed up after arrival on their commitments and those with skills and education must secure jobs before coming and more importantly screening out those who don't share our values which include equality of gender and race, freedom of religion (or no religion) and respect for individuals and caring for neighbors and sick and elderly and the needy. The liberals never said they would do such thing.

This is only a 7.4% increase in the number of new immigrants from the previous conservative government. Now I personally believe that the number needs to be cut in half and adaptability should carry a lot more weight.

It is not a story but a factual event that I happened to witness myself with my own eyes and ears. And there are many hims in UK and Europe and even Canada. We don't wish our peaceful country t become like some European countries where young colored immigrants are randomly being picked upon or attacked by gang of skinheads (losers who blame their failure on easy to pick targets). Steps needs to be taken to prevent that. Be selective on immigrants allowed in this country and reduce the numbers. A country of 30 million should be admitting about 150,000 a year not twice that much. Give priority to adopted immigrants and skill and education and make adaptability a big factor in selection.

Canada is indeed a multicultural country (unless you still live in the past, like 70 years ago) and there is no need to give them the impression because IT IS A FACT that their culture and language and religion are equal to all others and this is written in our Charter of rights and freedom that citizens regardless of race, religion, origin, language, orientation have equal rights. As for the rest of your post: You are picking a few cases you have HEARD and then much worse you try GENERALIZING it to ALL immigrants and then you conclude that all immigrants or most of them are refusing to assimilate or they insult Canadians. Like the restaurant that I had my dinner a few weeks ago was a foreign owned restaurant, And guess what I counted at least TWO Canadian born (you may call them white or Caucasian Canadians) who were employed there by this owner whom you may regard as foreigner. Not to mention many foreign born (some recent immigrant) professors I encountered who are involved in teaching our kids to make a life for themselves after graduation or many others who create jobs in Canada by investing or others who bring their skills and education and take care of our sick or help to build roads and bridges and I can go on forever.. Btw, immigrants do NOT owe you anything. If you feel (which I think you do) that because they have come here now they owe you something for life then you are wrong. And respect too is mutual. I say this because I was in (UK) and that region is fairly racist (this was a couple of decades ago). I decided to go to a foreign restaurant advised by my hotel manager. So I was having my dinner and I heard some altercation near where I was sitting. I heard the white big English guy (with shaved head) who have eaten as much as a horse (I saw a few empty plates on his table) but refusing to pay saying that those people are allowed to come into his country and now he is entitled to a free dinner because he is now unemployed because of them!!!!!!!.
