Immigration is meant to serve Canada not the other way round. I can see some people being admitted to Canada if they can prove that they will be persecuted in their home countries but opening the gate will be wrong. We must not allow certain culture or cultures dominate this country by more than a few percentage point as otherwise our democratic free way of life may be badly disturbed by a mass flow (considering that most of those persecuted are from certain region).

Another dumb comment. Israel maybe geographically located in middle east but most of its citizens are from Europe or their ancestors are. Though I can understand the sediments and the reasons for ban but Countries selected by Trump were stupid and chosen based on politics. Iran for example among the 7 countries chosen has the most pro-American population and is the least religious in middle east, whereas Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and Egypt and UAE NOT among the 7 countries have the most anti-American and most religious fanatics. In fact the 2001 World Trade Center attack (and terrorist attacks thereafter) was carried out by nationals of those countries. There has been no terrorist attack by any Iranian against US targets. The countries were selected not as a safety measure but based on politics. If their government was friendly to US then they escape a ban and if the government was unfriendly than a ban was imposed and we all know in those dictatorships governments don't represent the people. No they have no right to do so because Republican party under Trump was elected democratically with all these clear agenda in a democratic manner. They said they are going to do all these if they are elected and the American people elected them in a fair manner knowing clearly what they are going to do. I don't understand what the fuss s all about. Trump was democratically elected by the American people as the President of the United States of America. So why all these demonstrations them!!!!!! So why there is an election if its results is going to be undermined? He said what he stands for clearly and he was elected so any demonstration is against the democracy.

I am interested to see Trump's foreign policies and in particular how he addresses issues in Middle East Whether he addresses the source of all the problems militarily and root out the cancer cells or like Obama he sleeps with the enemy. Remains to be seen if he is all talks or a man of action.

Russia has been a bloodthirsty country exploiting the whole world even being brutal to its own people in all its black (or I should say red) history. They deserve what is coming to them. Though I agree (as I said clearly before) that many aspects of prostitution when exploitation and pimping is involved should remain illegal with even harsher penalties as they destroy lives however I beg to differ on some aspects of pay for sex when sex is consensual between adults (no one is forced or pimped or coerced) just because some material benefit is involved and I see it no differently than what the remaining 90-95% of men do in general (like talking a girlfriend to dinner or buying drinks in a bar for strangers or buying wives/girlfriends expensive gifts and many other examples). The law enforcement should use its limited resources in combating those aspects of prostitution where lives are destroyed rather than arresting people who engage in consensual sex and tie up our court systems. That is what I am saying. Many sex workers are in this profession by CHOICE and regard themselves as professional workers who pay for their living or education some on temporary basis and they deserve equal protection as any other workers with equal rights and criminalization of their profession only makes it dangerous for them and takes away their rights to protection and insurances others enjoy. They also become tax payers as like others. It is not for us to decide for them what it correct or incorrect. As for better alternatives sex workers are advocating strongly the New Zealand model however Harper was blinded by religious fanaticism to hear them out and they were shut out of consultation as it was usual with Harper regime. The new laws are called Pickton's laws for good reason.

You asked the question!!!!! Another FALSE statement. Please educate yourself before making statements. I don't know about drugs but prostitution laws are much more severe now in Canada than US and UK thanks to Harper regime who against all expert advice pushed it through parliament and made it law. In addition to laws in US and UK (public solicitation, being found in a bawdy house....) in Canada thousands of people who engage in consensual sex with adults are now charged criminally (since December 2014) and send to courts for criminal prosecution.

You are back to making FALSE statements as before. In most countries prostitution is decriminalized. Yes there are laws against pimping, violence, exploitation, minors as there must be but paying for sex to engage in consensual sex with adults is decriminalized in most of countries or it is illegal only on paper(like Thailand and Russia where you only pay fines so courts will not be tied up). Only in a third of countries it is criminalized and Canada is one of them thanks to Harper and people like you and religious fanatics.

Trafficking drugs or selling to minors must be illegal. Prostitution too when it involves exploitation (by Johns or pimps) or violence against sex workers or underage workers must also be illegal and hardly punishable. I am all for it. However, when it comes to consensual sex between adults where material benefits may be involved then that aspect of sex work should be decriminalized in a civilized manner as in majority of countries in the world (except may be middle east and English speaking countries and Nordic ones) who have come to this realization that the old profession will never go away and hence they have to deal with it in the best way they could to protect the workers. It is in criminal code of Canada and the reason that the law enforcement in TWO cites only have declared that they will not enforce it (in Vancouver and Montreal and you are not telling the truth when you claim most don't enforce it) is because the new laws are stupid and very backward unsuitable in a democracy so they enforce it only when there is a harm to someone like pimping or underage or forced prostitution (in other words the good old laws) as they have NO TIME to enforce Harper's stupid laws in those two cities though Ontario premier has said Ontario WILL enforce it. In addition the two cities are not the entire country. In many other cities many people have been charged for consensual sex since the former injustice minister pushed it through parliament in spite of many concerns and expert advice against the bill under Harper's order.

Likely no because statistics in your link is only available up to the end of 2013 whereas the new ridiculous bill which became law in a manipulative manner by former Harper regime became law in December 2014 after which no data is yet available and certainly NOT in your link. The bill criminalized purchase of sex which was legal in Canada before that and hence many thousands who might have engaged in that activity and arrested are waiting for their court day as it is criminal since above date. In addition to many other related acts became criminal. What I am referring is the criminalization of sex between consenting adults as even before forced prostitution and underage and pimping was illegal so no new laws were needed. Also the link that YOU have added has this article in it if you had read it. For police, Bill C-36 may put further strains on their resources and budgets. Yes when I read about this last week I was disgusted that something like this could happen in Canada. But I partially blamed Harper and his injustice minister Peter MacKay who brought in stupid laws based on their own religious beliefs and hence tied up the courts with stupid cases with non-criminals while real criminals getting away with murder and rape. Damn Harper regime for which we will be paying heavy prices for years. Stupid laws like bill C36 who criminalizes and jails those engaging in consensual sex with adults up to 5 years (or at least those people charged will have to line up for courts) as one example which was introduced in 2014 against all expert advice in a manipulative manner based on personal beliefs and Trudeau government is too acting too cowardly to repeal this stupid bill at least so.far.

As per title of this thread religious fanaticism is not a new concept in Canada. Harper who was elected to becoming a Prime Minister of Canada many times was a religious fanatic himself and as an evidence (and many other similar actions) he criminalized consensual sex between adults whenever money was exchanged in a manipulative dictatorial manner in 2014 in spite of expert advice against the bill (C36) and many assertions that it would jeopardize workers' lives and well being but as it is common for religious fanatics to impose their beliefs upon others he pushed it through and made it a law. So my point is that OP's attempts on this forum to represent that middle east or Muslims have a monopoly on religious fanaticism or being a threat t Canada and its values (threat to democracy is from within by people like Harper and his supporters and I am sure Muslims are not among them) or it being unCanadian is not correct and is a misrepresentation. Also Being a Muslim does not necessarily mean being a religious fanatic since some likely most of these people at least come here so that they get away from fanaticism and lack of freedom especially those who come from oil rich countries they have no economic reason to immigrate other than getting away from religious oppression.
