  1. It's ridiculous to argue about which human tragedy is 'worse' and I'm sorry I took jbg's bait and got into it. /thread drift
  2. It was unclear, but I am referring to sovereignty of Nations of people - First Nations people - and they have never surrendered their sovereignty as peoples. I think some of what you believe to be true is still not established in law in Canada. Keep in mind that Canadian law includes Aboriginal Law as well as French Civil Code and British Common Law. Also keep in mind that a "purchase" never paid for is not a purchase at all. And if you say it is, then I'd like to "purchase" your house and I'll give you a spiffy document to that effect in French (or any language you don't understand) after you deliver your keys to me.
  3. Sorry, I have to wash my hair. Are your reading skills weak or is it motivation you lack? My recollection is ... we are definitely getting better. The drive for improvement began with students who are now in their late thirties. Canada selects the random sample as per instructions. There' pressure for all countries to do the same. Some of the highest scoring countries may have systems organized in a manner that skew samples. We are doing very well, both genders too. You will find your answers in the report, which is produced by the Canadian Ministers of Education according to international guidelines , overseen by OECD Organization for Economic and Cooperative Development, I believe. You might also want to look at the TIMSS ... something International Mathematics and Science Survey, similar results, perhaps different grades. I do somewhat agree with your point that people without appropriate information shouldn't be asked for opinion/decision, but I think the experts could provide the information - various scenarios - to them in layperson's language.
  4. I believe the reference is to sovereign Indigenous Nations, having always been so throughout history and never having surrendered to anyone, it remains. Territories ... different issue but similar: territories never "ceded to or purchased by" the Crown, following the law as laid out in the Royal Proclamation, retain Aboriginal title. "Territories" include all lands in Aboriginal possession at 'contact', except any subsequently legally "ceded to or purchased by" the Crown. (Not just the 'reserves' we know today.
  5. FACTCHECK: Neither Canada nor it's borders existed at the time of the Royal Proclamation. So ... no.
  6. Look back a couple of pages in the thread, or google it.I was surmising that he must have said something to annoy the Israeli soldier holding him at gunpoint, but perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps he said nothing and got shot anyway.
  7. Our multi-million dollar representatives could negotiate in good faith, without any "sharp dealing" tactics, according to the Supreme Court rulings - ie, according to the law. For starters, they could get their asses back to the table with a reasonable offer for at least the simplest (of 28) specific claims. I don't believe there currently is anything for Six Nations to deliberate, though there may be a lawsuit in process. And I would have to say ... was and IS double dealing and deception by our rep$.
  8. Ya so we need dumber racehorses with thicker skulls and a high tolerance for Oxycontin/heroin.It's not the equipment: It's the hits. FU DON CHERRY!
  9. Considering that it's taken us 200 years and a blockade to even begin to address their concerns - and that we've currently walked away from the table - I think they are entitled to time for deliberation.
  10. No country surrenders any sovereignty to the UN. However, we do sign public agreements to uphold UN conventions and respect international law.We are voluntarily subject to the influence of the UN, and I gotta say ... when you've listened to a UN official "rant, rave and scream" at you about Canada's complicity in assisting our mining companies in committing atrocities (forcible displacement, murders, etc.) against Indigenous Peoples in other countries, you begin to comprehend Canada's current loss of status at the UN. In our most recent Universal Periodic Review, Canada was openly and loudly scorned in the strongest diplomatic terms for submitting a report on progress on Aboriginal issues WITHOUT ANY CONSULTATION WHATSOEVER WITH ABORIGINAL PEOPLE.
  11. We do not have poor outcomes in Mathematics and Science internationally. http://cdnsba.org/all/education-in-canada/pisa-results-canadian-students-score-high-in-performance-canadian-education-system-scores-high-in-equity Please see p 31 and 32 of the pdf report for graphic display of results for Canadian students: ”Measuring up: Canadian Results of the OECD PISA Study” 2009
  12. Are you implying that 9/11 somehow justifies Israel's actions against Gaza? How so? (And I would remind you that there were no children in the twin towers.)
  13. I do. I wouldn't say 'evil' but misguided. Its my observation that they are driven by greed for money and power (the winners, the rich and superrich) or fear of the greedy and powerful (the losers, the money-shovellers, the non-unionized workers). It's all Type A anxiety based neurosis.
  14. Just another broken down racehorse, likely pumped with oxycontin and soon to be found wandering the mean streets slobbering on corners for loonies for his next fix. Yay Canada
  15. Beats counting beans with you mouth on the butt of the master!
  16. Atta boy! Good slave! Here's a doggie treat.
  17. I do.SEPTEMBER 17, BAY ST (and Wall st, and globally) ROCK THE TSX!! Let's see how the money-shovelling rats like wading through our ranks to get to their slave jobs sucking the socks of the mega-rich sociopaths who manipulate us for money and sadistic pleasure.
  18. Could someone please clarify to what extent these protests in Israel involve Arab-Israelis and/or Jewish citizens? Thanks.
  19. Which is created by the financial sector to benefit themselves and mega investors - ie, the superrich - to suck more money into their pockets and out of the fast disappearing middle class. Puleeeez ... put the artificially created debt-bogeyman to rest. It is and always was a scam. Next thing the financiers will be creating another world war to contain the 'masses' and shovel even more money into the offshore-bound trunks of the megarich. Can't the money shovellers raise their heads for a moment and see that they are just the house slaves?
  20. Interesting because my understanding of research on the relationship between happiness and wealth is that lower and middle income people express more happiness than upper income people. Those with more experience in surviv al and making do are more inclined to recognize and count their blessings , while those with huge income and assets are driven by constant fear and anxiety of losing them.
  21. I truly hope Palestine can get the votes needed to override the US veto. It' to their credit that they have stepped outside the morass of recriminations and violence to seek a solution. Obviously the US is politically hogtied by its Israeli ties so this is the most hopeful strategy for peace yet. Peace over ideology, states that can relate as equals. Seems a much firmer ground from which to create safety and security for both They say a successful compromise is one that fully satisfies neither side. This is a start. .
  22. It's been interesting reading this thread ... and quite frightening. The only solution is more of the same greed and exploitation that got us here ... and let's suck some more out of the middle class, until there isn't one anymore. Then what? Clearly there must be some solutions you aren't mentioning because they'll upset someone's applecart perhaps? It seems to me that there is a need for much broader input into the finance system than has been the case to date, a more broadly based discussion of how the finance system can work for everyone, not just the superrich. It would seem a good time to revisit our purposes as a human society. Forget the trickle down and float every boat crapola. Be creative.Think outside the box. Suggest something wild and new ... and humane.
  23. Let's face it, your problem is you seem to think the rich t ook your wealth rather than earning theirs. Most of the wealth in the Western world was earned. If you want to steal it, then just come out and say it rather than playing the victim. This post has been edited by CPCFTW No, we want the superrichest top 1 percent, holders of 40 percent of the WEALTH to give it back. Great discussion btw
