Well I think I heard that suicide bombers in the Middle East switched to females to avoid detection. I have also heard stories about black people living in Scarborough who can't even go out for an exercise run without being stopped by the police. I think we have tro be very careful; about giving the police any more powers than they already have.

I read recently that airport security might have pay passengers $100. if they subjected them to a search and discovered nothing wrong. Perhaps we could implement the same sort of strategy for the police in Toronto. I would like the police officers to have to pay part of the money out of their own pocket though, to ensure there will be proper accountability.

Is canada In Danger Of Becoming A Police State?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Slain Terror Suspect Didn't Flee Police, Report Says (Update2) I know this isn't per say, a Canadian news story, however there are important messages here for Canada. We can't have the heads of our police deceiving the public no matter how serious a situation we are facing. We need for our police chiefs to be honest and reliable with us. All this does is undermine our confidence in our police, and undermines their credibility in the eyes of the public. What a mess this is now that is going to have to be sorted out. -
Ban "THELIBERAL" from posting topics
mirror replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
tolerance???? Aren't you the poster who slandered me (dickhead was the term you used wasn't it?) when I called Mad Mikey on his pomposity and whinging? Ohhh, I get it. You fall back on the stereotype for conservatives as intolerant but don't actually have to be tolerant yourself. Why don't you and THELIB just play your little attack Harper games on threads nobody cares about???? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Banning people because you disagree with their political point of view is FASCISM Just because this website orginates from Alberta does NOT mean only right wingers can post here. Maybe you haven't quite grasped that concept yet, eh! -
Ban "THELIBERAL" from posting topics

No actually I am not happy about that proposal. We are different folks here and we not the same in political persuasion, intelligence, vocabulary, command of the English language, logical argumentation, education, sophistication, etc. But one thing we need to have is tolerance for others particularly when we disagree with each other. Otherwise mapleleafweb will become a cult, resulting in no more than propaganda or brainwashing. Don't we already have enough of that in Canada's MSM? Just ignore anyone who bothers you. Instead of trying to ban him why not dialogue with him and ask him to accommodate us better. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar which I'm sure you know. -
Plese provide a link to this story.

Nonsense. You and Aug are both right wingers. Let us know when you want to ban a right winger. This is so typical of the Cons. -

Harper. Fait moi pas rire! Qui parle pour le Quebec? Charest? C'est question est bizarre, n'est pas? -

Is canada In Danger Of Becoming A Police State?

One thing I have never understood is those police funerals where there are those massive dispalys of police presence. It is like the police are trying to say a police death is more important than any other citizen's death which is absolute nonsense. We are all equal here and a policeman's death is no more, and no less, important than that of any other citizen of Canada! -

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Do you have a point, or do you just like posting nonsense? You let me know when someone in Canada is being persecuted (imprisoned or otherwise beaten, tortured or murdered) for their beliefs and it is condoned by our government. Otherwise, don't insult those out there that have emigrated to this country to get away from such horrible things. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ever hear of Mahar Arar? -
There are a couple of Cons that would do a better job than Harper IMO. Bernard Lord and John Tory. But Conservatives in their wisdom will keep Harper until he loses the next election, and then the Liberals will proably be looking at acquiring a new leader as well.

This is beginning to look really bad for the police. Too bad! What a tragedy for all concerned.

Excellent post - I agree with every point you raise. I thought we believed in Freedom of Speech. Some here only believe in Freedom of Speech when people agree with them. Those people are the ones that should leave. I am very tired of the fascist mentality that permeates this place much too often. -
Actually it looks like England needs to focus on training their police. Call to jail police over Tube train shooting

Quite a remarkable achievement when one thinks about it. Layton has only been in the House of Commons for one year and he sure is making quite a positve impact on Canadians. If I remember correctly I think it took Broadbent three elections before he reached his zenith back in the late eighties.

Top Canada post nominee declares loyalty to nation It is incredible to listen to the paranoia of some of the posters on this issue. Just because one is a Conservative, and one dislikes the PM, is no reason to put down one of Canada's most respected journalists because one disagrees with her opinions. There have been occasions when I have not enjoyed Hebert's opinions and that is understandable. To attempt to discredit her with garbage accusations because one dislikes her opinions is over the top though, and should have no place in political debates. -
Layton Proposes Export Tax on Oil to US
mirror replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Enough Talk, It’s Time To Move Lumber It's good to see at least one opposition party has their fingers on the pulse of this nation. No wonder Layton has surpassed Harper as second most popular leader in this country. -
Layton Overtakes Harper Second Most Popular Leader

Gotta love your right wing ideology with no substance to back up your arguments. What utter rubbish! -
I agree. You seem to be a very bitter person. Your statement is absolutely ridiculous. No, the rich don't ALWAYS get rich on the "backs" of the poor. There are plenty of ways to become wealthy. Mostly through talent and hard work. I'm not sure where you get your information from, I mean, other then marxists/communists. I really wish you would. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yea, and I suppose Hitler is your God! Get a life!
-
It's over guys. You can lose the paranoia and give it a rest. Even the Monarchy League supports her. You lose again!

Interesting stats on the oil industry. Chart Canada produces 3.14 million barrels a day. Canada consumes 2.3 million barrels a day. So I presume Canada exports 0.84 million barrels a day. -
Actually there are socities in the world that are very egualitarian and they don't have any poverty. That is what Canada needs to be pursuing with government policies, and not the sick policies which lead to extreme poverty such as in the USA. Of course the rich always get rich on the backs of the poor. There is no other way for them to do it. They rig the governments, they rig the tax structures, they rig the laws. At least be honest about it.

Article PM Martin is laughing all the way to the bank on this one, and now even the Monarchist League of Canada supports Jean's appointment.
