  1. Gotta love these personal insults rather than trying to attack the issue under debate. Your arguments must be so weak that you have to resort to this kind of nonsense. Canada has so much - timber, minerals, oil & gas, fish, agricultural products. I could go on and on. Let's start to share our resources with everyone else on the planet. Or do you get your jollies from watching people starve to death?
  2. Major was born in Ontario but is from the West. He was on the Alberta Court of Appeal before being appointed to the Supreme Court. Quebeckers has by far the most astute electorate in the country. What Quebec wants, Quebec usually gets. Being a minority Quebeckers have learnt how to play the game.
  3. Charest lauds court decision on health care Matybe this idiotic ruling on health care allowing private services, by the supreme court, is a good thing. As a result it has guaranteed that health care will be the major issue of the coming federal election campaign. One thing for sure is that Dosanjh has turned out to be a dud as a federal health minister, just as he was a dud in provincial politics in BC.
  4. Livable Income For Everyone We have an abundance of all material things in Canada so it is now time for us to share the wealth with all other Canadians and eventually all of those who live on our planet. Canada needs to once again be the leaders in this revolution. Goodness knows our fragile planet is looking for some new ideas instead of the same old, same old, boring, sterile ideas from the administrations South of the border.
  5. Here is a wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guaranteed_minimum_income Note the following: Portugal's experience demonstrates two things: 1) it is incredibly expensive; 2) providing a 'livable' minimum income would encourage many people to not work at all and thereby place an every increasing burden on the system. No strings attached social welfare the worst kind of social welfare. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're talking through your hat. Take Finland for example. When you go on enemployment isurance it lasts until you are employed again, or you stay on EI for life. Believe it or not most people want to work. I am a lot more concerned about corporate executives ripping off their employee pension funds than I am about the very few people in society who are going to abuse a GAI. With the money we spend on government bureaucracies, which would be substantially reduced, we can easily afford a GAI at no additional cost to the taxpayers. We need to shift our attention away from sick and degenerate societies like the US and do what we in Canada believe is best for Canadians and the rest of the people we share the planet with. Americans are brain dead. They think that we can destroy this planet and they will build a colony in outer space to replace planet earth. They are absolutely nuts, and the further Canada moves away from the US with their insane policies, the better off all Canadians will be. Parrish is so right with her outbursts!
  6. Major to retire from Supreme Court Supreme Court Justice John Major to retire at Christmas Mr Dithers talked a lot about the democratic deficit before he was elected. So far he has produced zilch. Will he put his words into action here? I seriously have my doubts. Major I believe is from the West. When was there last a supreme court justice from BC?
  7. What then do you feel is a fair level of taxation? Do you have one? Or do you just favour 'high' taxes in general? Uhhh, it is possible to form opinions on one's own without listening to Fox News. No, I don't think I am nuts. I do think that blanket support of "high taxes" is pretty weak. I would think it fair to say most Canadians wouldn't support the statement: "It is essential that we have high taxes ." But thanks for the blanket personal attacks without any justification. How long until this 'forthcoming' National Childcare Program is enacted? Ken Dryden, Hall of Fame goalie, pretty weak as a minister so far. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What is this obsession with material greed or possesssions. How many houses, cars, boats, money in the bank does one person need? Taxes are what fund our social services without which people would literally die on the streets. Is that what you want, as your ideas sure sounds like it. And cut the crap about my wanting to live off the system. I earn good money, I work damm hard for it, but I would never begrudge our duly elected governments taking their 50% to provide services and support to those less fortunate than myself. This is what Canada needs: GAI
  8. This is a joke right? Is is "essential" that Canada has high taxes. "As long as Canada keeps high taxes we will be fine." Are you advocated an increase in Canadian tax rates? Tax freedom day for 2005 was on June 26th. So the average Canadian had to work half the year to cover their tax bill. How is it equitable to ask somebody to work half the year to fund "a fair and equitable society"? How many people cut back on the amount they work because of the heavy burden of taxation? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The freedom day by the right wing fraser institute has been totally debunked and discredited. It's all based on garbage figures that they just pulled out of the air with no solid scientific evidence to back up their research. The US has one of the sickest societies in the world and you want Canadians to follow that degerate society. Are you nuts? Try to do a little thinking for yourself instead of listening to fox news or whatever it is that you watch. Sorry but most Canadians aren't into the ME ME ME lifestyle you advocate. Canadians need to put into effect the GAI that Chretien proposed but never implemented. But it's coming soon.
  9. CRTC probing 'shameful' comments about Jean I hope they throw the book at this guy. Disgusting behaviour. Thank goodness for the CRTC to ensure that we still have some decency standards in Canada.
  10. Politically this was brilliant strategy on PM Martin's part. For the first time in a long time he is getting positive press in Quebec over Jean's appointment. What percentage of Quebeckers are allophones? Think about it!
  11. You don't seem to get it. It is essential that we have high taxes so that we will have a fair and equitable society and solid social programs like the new child care program which is coming, etc. These are the reasons why Toyota is investing and creating jobs in Canada. As long as Canada keeps high taxes we will be fine.
  12. In Finland's Footsteps We are so programmed in North America to believe that the US competitive approach, survival of the fittest, winner take all approach is the way to go. The only reason we believe this is that the powerful elites in North America control the media and to a large extend brainwash us into thinking we have the best system in the world. Sure it works for the rich, but not for the middle or poor classes. Actually when you compare the US system to Finland, the US system leaves a lot to be desired. It is time Canadians put their thinking caps on and learn about other societies on our planet that are way ahead of anything the US has to offer. The sooner we cut loose from the US value system the better.
  13. This article is dedicated to Shady and all the others who accuse people of supporting terrorism when they don't kiss the president's butt and believe all his lies. You know, for all the people who believe the tripe in the MSM instead of doing a little thinking for themselves. Why 'War on Terror' Was Re-Branded
  14. Cables Cut Away From Russian Mini-Sub That must be one heck of a terrible feeling to be trapped under water and running out of air. Hopefully the Brits got there soon enough and the Russian sailors will be saved.
  15. I am going to have to brush up on my Cuban missle crisis history. Eureka You are probably right - what has pissed the Danes off is Graham drank their bottle of whisky. Wait for General Hellier to call those Danes dirty scumbags and then we'll send in Canada's version of the US marines except our troops will be arriving in kayaks accompanied by Luna our friendly killer whale, that has been hanging around the BC coast for the past couple of years.
  16. Well the Danes planted a flag and burried a bottle of whisky the last time they were there. I bet Bill Graham took their missing flag during his recent trip. Too bad Mckenna wasn't a bit more like Brain Tobin - he knew how to kick ass!
  17. Lord will probably the next leader of the Conservatives or whatever they will be calling themselves after their next election fiasco.
  18. Pressure getting to Novak? So Bob Novak got up and walked out of a live CNN broadcast. What kind of professional decorum is that? I suppose that the Special Counsel's investigation into the leaked info about Plame, a covert CIA agent, is creating a lot of stress for several right wingers in the US, and they are starting to crack under pressure. If one were one of the targets of a grand jury investigation, erratic behaviour is quite understandable.
  19. London bombs 'set off by mobiles' So are they saying here these guys were not suicide bombers or what, eh! Bizarre that the NYPD are releasing details about the London bombings. Isn't there some kind of protocol for these kind of things? Or is this another case of Yankees jumping the gun, before all the details are proven beyond a shadow of a doubt?
  20. McKenna, another guy like Hellier by-the-way, who has too big a mouth, and our useless US Ambassador, will capitulate and kiss that yankee ass over Devil's Lake. Too bad for Manitoba!
  21. Perhaps General Norman Schwarzkopf, er Rick Hellier should go up to Hans Island rather than Afghanistan as I hear the Danes are sending their Navy in. How come we haven't yet heard our general's pronouncements on Hans Island, eh!
  22. We all know about John Raulston Saul, Adrienne Clarkson's husband but who knows anything about Michelle Jean's husband? (hint: think Quebec) My goodness Canada's is going to have a sexy GG. Who'd ever thought!
  23. Michaelle Jean - a great Canadian and a great choice IMO. And gotta love that CBC connection. I wonder what she thinks of Canada's involvement in Haiti. Not too much I would gather .
  24. Shady It sounds like you are completely brainwashed. My major problem with this whole Iraq invasion by Bush & Blair is, if they were so sure they were doing the right thing, why did they lie about the reasons for going to war? It seems to me if you have legitimate reasons for doing things, you just need to tell the truth, which they didn't. So who is going to believe anything they say after that? And why would anyone?
  25. What was it Drapeau said: "The Olympics could no sooner have deficit than a man could have a baby". The next day in the paper Aislin, the Montreal based cartoonist, had a picture of a pregnant Drapeau. They really must be nuts to consider doing it again after what happened last time. Give it a break!
