  1. Neighbours in rural N.S. town shocked by shooting death of man, 70, by police I am not suggesting anthing about this particular incident as the details are not yet known, however it seems there has been a rising number of police incidents involving inappropriate behaviour by the police. Think of the missing women in Vancouver's East side for example. Do you think we are admitting the wrong type of person into our police forces? Are we falling down somehow with our screening process when people apply for a policeperson's job?
  2. RCMP will not launch criminal investigation into Grewal tapes I watched here and elsewhere as Liberals hung an innocent MP out to dry before the jury was in. I think all those Liberals who wanted to be judge, jury and executioner before the trial should get down on their knees and beg Grewal's forgiveness. It was a disgusting display of lynch mob mentality. Thank goodness in Canada you are innocent until proven otherwise.
  3. Recently I have been working on a project for Terasen Gas. I also remember reading in the press that some giant US pipeline company was going to buy Terasen. Why in the world would Canada allow a sale like this to proceed? U.S. company buying Terasen Gas

  6. There is not one other poll that is showing what Environics is showing so I will be prudent and wait for the next series of polls to confirm or disprove what the other polls are showing - that the Liberals are getting close to forming a majority government. The fact that Harper has to pay people $5. each to come and talk with him is NOT a very good sign to say the least.
  7. Just found confirmation of what I heard on the radio this AM. Go Canada Go! Loonie keeps climbing The price of oil is really beginning to take off as well, currently around $66. I remember many of the economic experts saying if the price of oil goes up it is going to destroy our economy. Hogwash! It has gone up and the economy is thrieving.
  8. Canada records another surplus despite our strong dollar so that augers well for a robust Canadian economy. It is obvious though that we seriously need to diversify our trading partners. It is never good to put all one's eggs in one basket. Canada posts record trade surplus
  9. I heard on the news this morning that Canada's dollar once again is starting to climb towards par with the US dollar. It has been a long time since that occured and there are a lot of us who would consider traveling to the US again if that were to happen. Anyway this is another strong encouraging sign that our Canadian economy is in great shape and we can look forward to a fabulous future.
  10. Hmmm, Michael I'm a little confused. Over on the "Should Harper Be Replaced?" thread you said "Harper is making me homesick for Preston. Anyone who can make Preston look attractive to an urban intellectual from Toronto, really is a poor electoral choice." So does Harper make Preston look attractive to you or are they the 'same game'? You also didn't answer the earlier question. As a self-proclaimed "urban intellectual from Toronto" do you work at Chapters or Starbucks? Mirror, what is the source for your news story? Might help answer your question about the Environics poll being an outlier. (If that is indeed what you meant. Never heard the term rogue poll before...) You gotta understand how a story like that, which isn't in any mainstream news outlets I have been able to find, and a poster who uses stuff from rabble makes you wonder about the source. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually you might want to check today's National Post for the quote - but I suppose that paper is not right wing enough for you. You really are a lightweight, that's obvious. The reality is that it has been a disasterous year politically for the Cons so I see no reason to suspect they would be doing well in the polls although I do respect Environics more than a lot of the other polling firms that seem to be connected to one political party or another.
  11. Are things that bad for Harper that he has to resort to bribing people to make it appear there is some interest in what he has to say? The latest Environics poll showed the Cons closing the gap on the Liberals but now I am beginning to wonder if it actually was a rogue poll.
  12. Actually Chretien was pushing for it. Of couse governments can guarantee whatever they want. Look at how Bush has guaranteed the US cattle and lumber interests that the US is going to screw over Canada. And look they are doing it! I doubt the NDP would make it part of their iteniary now as they are probably too worried about the number the MSM might do on them if they don't toe the corporate line. They could do do what all political parties do, not talk about it before the election, and implement whenever they get elected.
  13. Impressive arguments. Such substantative comments. Come on now, you have both never been at a loss for something to say so spit it out. Let's hear your brilliant suggestions, because right now you have both provided didley squat to this thread!
  14. Wait and see the results when the non corporate TV network starts broadcasting in 2007. I think it's impact will be huge. People are desperate to get away from the corporate BS.
  15. I agree. We should be able to live and get along with the people from BC.
  16. Stephen Harper vs. Canada This NCC organization sounds like it is a scam. Funded by corporations with actually few or no members. Devoid of democratic principles. Organizations like this one, the Fraser Institute, and others of a similiar vein should be closed down, as they are not in the public interest.
  17. With the rising commodity prices Canada's economy will probably be the best in the world over the next 10-25 years. Today oil hit its highest price ever - $65. Some Canadians just moan and groan. Some Canadians don't realize how fortunate we are.
  18. Maybe if the US had entered the second world war with the rest of us more lives would probably have been saved, but they were too busy making money off the war effort.
  19. Spoken like a true a freak dominion poster. Hey pal, the friggin' cold war is over. Don't you get it. Unfortuantely Bush & Co are driving the US towards fascism but hey, who cares about that, eh! Wake up, and start using some common sense instead of that drivel above.
  20. Martin's positive move on unity This GG appointment by PM Martin is a brilliant move which will bring votes to the federalist cause in Quebec.
  21. Jean speaks 5 languages and is a French citizen. What a fantastic role model for our young Canadians! Governor general a French citizen
  22. You act as if you are in some unique situation. Most people work hard for their money so what does that have to do with anything. Grow up. You need to be forced to share it, and that is why we have governments, to take some of what you have and give it to others. and that is the way it is in our social democracy. Taxes, we all gotta love them . We have a progressive rate of tax so theoritically the more you earn the more you pay. If you earn $200,000 say, you might be left with $100,000 but if you earn earn $25,000. you will need it all and should not be taxed one cent. The rich guy still would have $75,000 more, so where's the prob;lem with that - a rhetorical question as there is no problem. It's called FAIRNESS>
  23. Discredited by who - the rich! You are too full of greed. That's why we need governments to take some of your money and spread it around to others. We will be having an inheritance tax soon enough. You do your children a disservice by leaving them too much - they will become parasites if they don't learn to value their own abilities to earn a living. And where you are going it would be pointless for you to try and take it with you. It will all burn up. And that' why Canada's most popular recent prime minister was seriously exploring GAI. It is coming soon enough.
  24. Can't we move on from SSM. now? The dirty deal is done, the debate is over. Once again Canada shows Americans what real Christianity is all about. Most of the mainstream churches will support SSM within a short perrios of time. Lutherans are addressing the issue, the United Church, the Unitarian Church and the Anglican churches have already dealt with the issue, and quite frankly who cares what RCs think any more. They have become the laughing stock of the nation.
  25. Beverly McLachlin is Alberta-born, but her legal career was in BC. It appears to me that there are currently 3 Supreme Court judges Quebec, 3 from Ontario, 1 from BC, one Maritimer, and Major is from the prairies. If regional balance is a consideration, then Major's replacement would likely come from the prairies as well. Martin will no doubt have his crew of legal experts out scouring the prairies for the gayest, most liberal judge he can find. Or better yet, he could search the Territories to find an Inuit judge! That would be way cool! -k <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks and
