All sorts of rumours and falsehoods were started about Trudeau including his being a communist, gay, crook, etc. by his opponents. That's just what they were - falsehoods.

So Canadians have been turned of politics by the corporate me, me, me agenda emenating from the Liberals and the Conservatives. No kidding.. This next election should prove to be very different with perhaps some very surprising results. Summer barbecues are fine and dandy, but Martin and Harper can't seem to rustle up any supporters

Oil Tops $70 As Katrina Nears Louisiana If this is really as bad as the weather experts that track these hurricanes are forcasting this really could blow the lid off the price of oil.

Here is the direct link for Greg Morrow's website which is forcasting 150 seats for the Liberals at the present time. He also has an article on electoral reform. Link

Layton is requesting that Parliament be recalled so that Canadian politicians can deal with the this crisis for our softwood lumber fight with the US. I think this is an excellent idea so that Canada can develop a concrete plan to sort this out and also we need to discuss whether or not is is futile to remains in this trade agreements with the US. This definitely does not look good. Did you see the stream of traffic heading out of New orleans this evening? It must be terrible to have to leave your home like that, and not knowing what kind of condition it is going to be like upon your return. Canada with its huge land mass is quite fortunate that it has been spared a lot of the serious weather problems that regularly occurs around our planet. Hurricane Katrina

Experts expect Katrina to turn New Orleans into Atlantis, leaving up to 1 million homeless Sure am glad that I have already had an opportunity to visit the Big Easy - it may never be the same again! Apparently Canadian Red Cross workers are already there to assist.

The price of oil is already at $70.80 This is bound to start having some major effect on our economy. Oil Soars to Record as Hurricane Shuts U.S. Gulf Production

Is this going to be the week from hell as far as oil prices are concerned? It certainly looks omnious. Oil, Gas May Soar as Storm Shuts U.S. Gulf Production

I don't know how many of you have been following the hurricane Katrina forecast for the New Orleans area but their mayor has now ordered all citizens to evacuate the city. As well 25% of the US's oil supply is produced in that area which means that the price of oil might be skyrocketing shortly. We think prices are high now but perhaps we have not seen anything yet. This is certain to have some kind of impact on Canada's dolla. Hold onto your hat folks.

It's great that our kick-ass Conservative leader Stephen Harper is going to support Linda McQuaig's point of view. I suppose there is always a first for everything: Linda McQuaig says we should revert to use of global trade rules

I don't blame you. I don't think have ever heard such a pile of unadulterated crap in my entire life. It seems like all the Trudeau haters in the world sprung to life when this thread was started. You know August, bakunin, Argus, etc.

Alberta: We're Coming To Get Your Money
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If you are looking for sweat shop jobs, I hear Fox News has a few openings! -
Well we can certainly see from the previous article that listening to the Thomas d'Aquinos, the Canadian business community, is the worst possible thing that Canadians should do. I can see what with Martin & now Harper attacking the US Ambassador, that it is going to get very crowded on the left, at least until the election is over. Seriously though, it is a bit refreshing to see Harper take a shot at the US - he mst have chocked when his advisers told him to do it.

NAFTA is dead, if it ever lived Time to cut loose from the Yankee Mullahs and Sheiks Canadians need to once and for all stop being lead around on a string, to stop fighting amonst ourselves, and to realize who the real enemy to Canada and our economic well being really is.
-
Well, that's a switch. Harper's finally catching on to all the Liberal dirty tricks. You know, say a lot and walk with no stick! Politics as practiced today in Canada is all smoke and mirrors boys and girls. The most important talent for someone aspiring to become prime minister is to be an effective actor. Harper critical of U.S. ambassador's comments

Unless Alberta quickly decides to share their oil and gas revenues, the rest of Canada is going to force them to do so. This is going to lead to a lot of tension but we have weathered problems before, we will weather this one, and we will weather them in the future. Klein must share: expert

That comment surprises me as well. There is no mention of anything to that effect here:

Yup Doug Christie is just the kind of guy you wanna follow. What a healthy society he would create.

Will Federal Government react to People vs. Banks?
mirror replied to onlythetruth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I do. There used to be a provision that the Cdn chartered banks had to keep 10% on reserve but I believe even that was ended some time ago. There is a major rip off somewhere just don't remeber exactly where it is. I think Germany has or had a different kind of system of banking than we do but don't know all the details. Why do we need chartered banks for anyway? Because the business community says so. When did they ever tell the truth? Why don't we do all our banking through the government? I bet if the government hired a few sharp business people and said go out and compete with the chartered banks as we want to get rid of them and you have all the money you need to do it, the gov't could put them all out of business overnite. Personal credit should be phased out, it is just a curse that is destroying people who now think they can pay off their debts by going to the casinos. -
One of the myths about Mulroney is that he was a big supporter of fighting apartheid. That's a crock. Mulroney was involved with Peter Munk and Barrick Gold. When the South Africans gold mines were boycotted guess who benefitted? You got that right. Mulroney is on Barrick's BoD with George Bush Sr. Oh yea, I guess we had better not mention the airbus commissions.
