  1. Interesting to see the breakdown of party supporters here at MLW: Bloc Probably [ 0 ] [0.00%] Bloc Definitely [ 1 ] [5.00%] Conservative Probably [ 2 ] [10.00%] Conservative Definitely [ 6 ] [30.00%] Liberal Probably [ 0 ] [0.00%] Liberal Definitely [ 3 ] [15.00%] New Democrat Probably [ 1 ] [5.00%] New Democrat Definitely [ 4 ] [20.00%] Other Probably [ 2 ] [10.00%] Other Definitely [ 0 ] [0.00%] Not Canadian Citizen [ 0 ] [0.00%] Refusing To Vote [ 1 ] [5.00%] None Of The Above [ 0 ] [0.00%] Total [ 20 ] [100%] These results certainly seem to confirm my hunch that the Liberals are quite underrepresented here at MLW, and that the Conservatives are way over represented here, compared to Canada's reality according to the latest opinion polls.
  2. No democratic space is the only scientifically based one that I am aware of. That the Conservative support is in the crapper is not me manipulating anything. I am no Liberal supporter.
  3. lefthour Welcome to mapleleafweb You picked a good day to join us - Labour Day! Hope you enjoy it here and take what some of the extremists here say with a grain of salt.
  4. Simple actually. Democratic space forecast prior to yesterday's CROP poll: Lib -150 seats Con - 71 seats Bloc - 60 seats NDP - 27 seats Total - 308 seats Required for majority: 155 seats In Quebec the Liberals are up 6% in Quebec and they always have a hidden vote in Quebec of about 5%. The Conservative support in Quebec will fade away come election time.
  5. I don't care what your age is, move to Fort McMurray if you want work.
  6. Political fury grows at slow federal effort So there you have it more Americans disapprove of Bush's handling of the Katrina situation than approve. The Vacation President. And what did he do when he finally ended his vacation, but fly to California for a fund-raiser for the Republicans, and the next day Bush went and played golf. Quite the guy, our George.
  7. Actually from the same article it says that the Bush administration was more interested in paperwork that would cover their ass and be used to blame others rather than go about the task of helping people: I agree the Bush administration is disgusting!
  8. The American dream mythology looks like it is on its way down, down, down! U.S. wealth gap just keeps widening
  9. Latest results. Bloc definitely - 1 vote Con probably - 2 votes Con definitely - 5 votes Lib definitely - 3 votes or 19% NDP probably - 1 vote NDP definitely - 3 votes Refusing to vote - 1 vote Total - 16 votes And the Liberals are within majority government range according to the latest polls. Hummm..........
  10. Here is a good blog if you want to read some Americans point of view about Katrina: CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE AND KATRINA?
  11. I think the following two articles explain quite clearly the two fundamental problems for Bush, that the levees were not maintained by DC, and contrary to expectations that the US Administration had its act together following 9/11, the reality revealed absolute chaos at the top. So what Americans, and the whole world saw, was incompetence at the top. God help Americans if there is another natural disaster or another terrorist attack. Despite Warnings, Washington Failed to Fund Levee Projects Storm Exposed Disarray at the Top
  12. For Bush, Next Moves Are Key to Rest of Term Already today, close to 50% (44% actually) blame Bush for the Katrina catastrophe, and that is before any investigations takes place which will reveal his lack of urgency at the beginning, which has seriously compounded the Katrina problems. The Democrats must be smelling blood for the first time in a long, long, time. They must have someone in their leadership that could allow them to exploit this situation to the max, and put these US Admistration suckers out of their misery, once and for all. I may be wrong but I just don't think Hillary is going to be the one to cut it though, even though she is from the South.
  13. Well according to democratic space forecasting, prior to today's CROP national poll in Quebec the Liberals would win 150 seats. so I suppose this puts them over the top and into a majority government. This means that the Liberals may be itching for an election any time now. And because Conservatives have sunk like a stone, it also means that the only hope of stopping the Liberals from forming a majority government is to vote NDP. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, family pets, start your engines, the race is about to begin!!
  14. Here is the latest CROP/La Presse National Opinion Poll for Quebec released today: B - 45% L - 29% C - 13% N - 11% It is starting to get crowded in Quebec. I wonder what the previous results were for all the parties. Does this give the Liberals a majority government now?
  15. I very much doubt Bush will escape the fallout here. Falluja Floods the Superdome
  16. Bourque has some good pictures of a Canadian Search & Rescue Team on his website this AM. Vancouver Search & Rescue
  17. Ultimately this is a gigantic subsidy to the to car owners and are part of the true costs of operating a vehicle. That is why the accounting profession and economists are a farce as the real costs are never shown on balance sheets..
  18. Bush tries to quell political crisis This is beginning to look so bad for Bush that when the investigations are over Bush may wish that he had never been president. He has brought shame on America. New Orleans Left to the Dead and Dying Hurricane Katrina has demolished this administration's mask of confidence
  19. Aren't people getting tired of governments deceiving us, and running away from the problems we are facing? Reducing taxes is a fix that would delay us from confronting the underlying problem
  20. Alberta-bound: How to tap a province of riches Financially things just seem to keep getting better and better in Alberta.
  21. Finally the US is starting to clue in that we mean business: Growing chorus lists U.S. investment in Canadian energy sector and Alaska gas pipeline as leverage points in timber dispute
  22. Decima Research has just completed polling Canadians about the softwood lumber dispute. Canadians would prefer a negotiated settlement, however if that is not possible the higest support for retaliation is the Layton New Democrats proposal for an export tax on oil and gas exports, and the province with the highest support for this is Alberta. Canadians prefer negotiation, but support some forms of trade retaliation I also heard on the radio tonite that a major Canadian lumber company, Interfor I believe, is pulling out of the lumber alliance in BC. Their CEO said there is no need to be involved anymore as Canada has won the softwood lumber fight with the US. He said that NAFTA is the only legal body and the WTO decision is of no consequence. So it sounds like the US better belly up to the bar and pay up or NAFTA is done like dinner.
  23. MB All these diversions you keep trying to throw up when the issue is Bush's dismal failure are NOT going anywhere. You are whistlin' dDxie as they say. Unfortunately for you ,most of us here are not your fundamentalist religious nutbar types, that believes the garbage spewed out by Bush, Robertson and some of the other GOP trash. One of the biggest problems I see for the American people as we watch this tragedy unfold is that there is no way to immediately turf Bush from office. But by not being able to do so the Republicans are now stuck with this albatross around their neck. It looks good on them!
  24. MB That is what people have been asking, for Bush to take some responsibility for his actions, or his lack of action, in the case of the Katrina disaster. What was the name of that US president who coined the phrase?: "The buck stops here" Nuff said
