Of course they are saying that. They don’t want to get roughed up again. Silence at all costs is the victim’s least worst strategy here. Are you Carr’s attorney or something? Have you never ever watched a mafia movie? Take that very charitable version of events up with the likes of Ted Cruz. And don’t leave the house without talking to me first. It’s a wild world out there.

China’s trade surplus is a serious geopolitical problem for everybody but instead of focusing on that Trump has alienated friendly nations across the world and gone into this scrap very poorly prepared. Now even his mega-donors don’t take him seriously. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/sep/19/republican-mega-donor-trump-china

In terms of merit, the same could be said of many German generals in WWII with considerably more justification but most of us reserve a little praise only for someone who saw the error of his ways before the end. Lee was an enthusiastic personal supporter of an abominable institution and fought to defend it. He also betrayed his country and sought to destroy it. The Confederate high command were lucky to escape execution.

The Bill Maher cancellation was particularly stupid. Job one in any fight is to know your enemy. The 9/11 attack was ingenious and well executed by people clearly willing to give their lives for the cause but the key point was that this enemy didn’t even have its own planes and could never pose a strategic threat to America. It ended up being a massive distraction from the real long-term challenge to the West - the PRC.

Here’s a Republican with a spine: https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5498446-thomas-massie-donald-trump-charlie-kirk-utah-shooting/ https://www.newsbreak.com/raw-story-2096750/4238540756002-rebel-republican-rips-gop-bid-to-charge-teens-as-adults-while-ignoring-epstein-abusers https://www.miamiherald.com/article312146310.html Looking at the descriptions of these people, I’d say we could guess some of the names already:

Whatever about the merits of the reason for doing so, there’s no question Trump already wanted to end Kimmel’s show. He said it himself. From Russia to Egypt to India the pattern is clear - authoritarians hate comedians. Libertarians on the right are being tested. Do they stay loyal to their party or their core beliefs?

Cartels Are Being Dismantled
SpankyMcFarland replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
If demand stays strong, so will the cartels. Bosses and labels may come and go but supply will meet demand. -
No man's land; the advent of drone warfare
SpankyMcFarland replied to paxamericana's topic in The Rest of the World
I don’t care what people like Trump claim to think or want us to say or how many poles our world has. Russia invaded Ukraine, mate. Them’s the objective facts. -
So many of us hoped that a capitalist China would follow America’s democratic example but the opposite looks more likely as the strategies of Orban and Erdoğan are being implemented stateside with impressive alacrity. America’s media is moving into the hands of Trump-friendly oligarchs like Larry Ellison to whom we are so many zeroes and ones. The message could not be clearer: please the leader or you will be purged.

Well it’s cancel culture with a salient difference - it’s coming from the head of government, not from righteous nitwits online. That’s a sinister turn in any country claiming to value free speech. This malignant clown already threatened a country this week, an ally of course, after a journalist asked him about his family’s rampant corruption so who knows whom he will go after next? Staying quiet is no guarantee of safety.

Trump says foreign workers are welcome
SpankyMcFarland replied to TreeBeard's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
No, I am not saying that. Biden clearly suffered much more age-reacted cognitive decline than Trump has done. What I am saying is that age should be a factor in how we assess the fitness of leaders. In most functioning parliamentary democracies a person as old as these guys wouldn’t be considered for the top post. It’s just asking for trouble. In Canada we haven’t let a person in their Seventies take up this job since the 19th century which shows good judgement I think. BTW why does an enemy of our country get such love here? -
Trump's Epstein note is Real

But if he knows the document is false he would be vindicated. -
Trump says foreign workers are welcome
SpankyMcFarland replied to TreeBeard's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Both were too old for the job. Biden became clearly unfit. Trump’s inability to get through a day without making egregious factual errors makes him unfit too. As I explained already, in Trump’s case two factors appear to be at play - the natural decline one often sees in somebody that old and a personality disorder that restricts his ability to distinguish truth from fiction, leading to ridiculous mistruths on a constant basis. . -
Trump's Epstein note is Real
SpankyMcFarland replied to Boges's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Mr. Trump knows how to sue people if nothing else. Why doesn't he sue the Epstein estate for claiming the infamous document is his? Kash Patel claimed he would open an investigation into how such a forgery got in there. Let’s see how far that goes.
