  1. I'm no optimist. If anything, your posts make me extremely pessimistic about the state of our education system, the attitudes of young men today and the future of our society as a whole. If you're the future, we're all screwed. How many times do I have to tell you: stick to the issues. You seem fixated on personal insults and attacks, which I suppose speaks for your ability to make a sound, relevant argument.
  2. Wow. A totally original insight. First: have you ever actually been to the U.S.A? Brother, they got flags. So, on the one hand, Canadians are always getting shit on for not being patriotic enough (what was "Stand Up For Canada", but a blatant plea for nationalism?). Then, on the other, we get shit for having the wrong kind of patriotism (like-gasp!- flags on our luggage! How ostentasious!). What the hell is it you want? I don't think "the world" really gives a sghit, which is what really drives right wingers round here absolutely bonkers. Talk about inferiority complexes. I've been to the USA dozens upon dozens of times. Canada's nauseating "we are great" mentality makes USA look modest. And the rest of your blather seems completely unrelated to what I have said. But go hard if it makes you feel better dude.
  3. You have something against Jewish bankers now?
  4. Is it just me, or is it about time we, as Canadians, got OVER the USA. It seems Canadians (especially the lefties) have this big time inferiority complex about living next to the USA. Even "the Rant" (that molson commercial with Joe Canadian) basically identifies Being Canadian as something that is NOT american in various ways. Can't Canadians come up with something better than "we're NOT them?" And the nauseating flag waving that goes on in this country is SHAMELESS. I thought Americans were bad. During woodstock 1999 (2000?) for example when the Trag. Hip played the audience was speckled with Canadian Flags, but no other band was so obviously nationalist. I remember I met a young woman visiting from France several years ago. I asked her what she thought of Canadians and she said "oh yes - nice people...but what eez with all of those flags all over your luggage whenever you people travel to europe???". lol Time we got some self respect, Canada. Let's stop acting like a bunch of teenagers with an inferiority complex. We're becoming the joke of the world.
  5. Because there's a distinction between a fetus as a living thing and a real person. It's a necessary one for balancing individual rights. It's also necessary for women to hide behind that ivory tower bullshit so that women can run around having unprotected sex with no consequences.
  6. It's like comparing Regina and Saskatoon. What little difference their is is not noticeable to the outsider. Calgarians are better at promoting their city and "thinking" that it's better. But generally: Weather: Calgary slightly warmer in winter but very windy - Edmonton slightly warmer in summer Population: Edmonton slightly larger (both are about a million but edmonton has more metro cities) Economic Growth: Edmonton slightly more (contrary to popular belief - think fort mcmurray gateway). Location: Calgary 1 hour drive to rockies - Edmonton 3 hours Convenience: Calgary has more direct flights to elsewhere Image: Calgary definitely better image - I think they indoctrinate peoplefrom newborn stage to believe Calgary has no faults and spread the word - it's like a cult, seriously. Think of a cult with red vests and white cowboy hats. Sports: Both have pro NHL & CFL teams Politics: Calgary is true blue tory, Edmonton is a mix of ND, Tory & yes, even Libs. Cost of Living: Edmonton is less expensive for housing.
  7. The WIND - you said it. Calgary weather is decieving. Look on the weather channel and it says "10C"...go outside and get blown sideways by a bitterly cold wind. Chicago has nuttin on Calgary - the "windy city" of the north.
  8. Women are good at school because they're more conformist and good at following rules. Ever seen guys line dance? lol. University is a great place to go if you want to end up in decent, limiting job. But it certainly isn't the prerequisite for success. I work in a brokerage firm. The firm is chalk full of university grads (bachelors) including myself - mostly business degrees. Strange trend, though: the women University grads are mostly assistants and associates and the boys are all mostly stockbrokers. hmmmmm. Is this because of some unfair hiring policiy? Hardly. Being an assistant requires great skill and thought - but in a much more structured, rules and non-entrepreneurial sense; something girls are good at - fitting in and not taking risk. Brokers require confidence, balls and ego and a sense of "taking on the world" - something boys are good at. The often less-educate male brokers end up making a killing and the university educated girls end up working for them. As far as how this dynamic in the workplace affects relationships, part of this is stuff hardwired in us from caveman days. Lets face it. When a 20-something woman walks into a job interview, the first thing the interviewer sees is "maternity leave". Why? because chances are she's going to end up getting married and having kids. Why are women, even better educated oned, less successful in the workplace? Try taking a big 15 year chunk of your career asidde to raise childeren and see if you measure up to the colleague who don't. The president of Harvard said the same thing about a year ago and got lambasted for telling it like it is. 'nuff said.
  9. Yup. I also know there's no definitive interpretation of it anymore than there is of the Bible, which can alos be used to justify some crazy crap. Anyway, please cite the part of the Qu'ran where it says that islamists shall take over the west. All I'm reporting is what Usama bin Laden has already said. Again, there are probably a number of different interpretations of the islamist worldview. I'm going with that expressed by Al Qaeda's Big Cheese. Well, questions about the veracity of that particular tape aside, to a radical Islamist, every none Muslim (and even soem Muslims) are infidels. That doesn't really prove anything. How about the Toronto muslim leader who said "the protests will not stop until the west obeys islamic law". Dude eveidence of muslims trying to impose their views upon through violence and intimidation is on the nightly news. What I'm asking you for is evidence to the contrary.
  10. no-as long as choice remains entirely the woman's decision she should be responsible. btw I'm a single bachelor no kids dude. only path to happiness
  11. And you're basing this one....what? 'cause it sure looks like you pulled it out of your ass. See, I hear a lot about re-establishing the Caliphate: they don't want to colonize Oshawa: they want their old empire back. ummm.. the KORAN. heard of it? also - if you'd watch the documentary on the passionate eye you'd see hidden camera fooqtage of many different cells of al qaeda all over europe talking about how France is "conquered terriroty" or their goals to establish sharia and muslim states in wetsren democracies. These are REAL muslim militants talking about this, not some left wing pundit like yourself assuring us all that this isn't the case and wishing - as always - that you could do your reflex finger pointing at Washington. Watch the website footage of Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi beheading Nick Berg - the website is entitled "Zarawi slaughters and INFIDEL". note it does not say he slaughters and AMERICAN or a WESTERNER.
  12. Ahem: If you disagree with Pape, try to attack the argument. Balls. Bin Laden himself has painted a picture of Islam in a defensive war against "Western/Zionist imperialism". Are you familiar with Michael Scheuer? He was he Chief of the bin Laden Unit at the CIA's Counterterrorist Center from 1996 to 1999. He's most definitely no "lefty" and even he sayss the islamists are not driven by hatred of ur freedoms but by very specific grievences such as support of Israel, support of tryannical ("apostate") Muslim regimes and support of countries that oppress Muslims (like Russia). All in all, it's a hell of a lot more credible than "they hate us for our freedoms". Wrong. Muslims militants don't just want the west out of the middle east - they want to spread the word and establish muslim states in western countries - ie IMPERIALISM.
  13. Thanks Jerry. But then you say: The woman has the bulk of the responsibility, financial and emotional. The man certainly does not pay 50% of the real cost of raising a child. My ex pays $350 for one of his kids. Does this mean it costs only $700 a month to raise the child? Apparently daycare alone costs $750 per month. Double what my ex pays. LOL When my ex was with the young one (and he already had the first 3 kids) I said "Watch out -- she's young, she's gonna want a baby". "oh no, she's not like that, she's on the pill" he said. They split up and sure enough, she was pregnant. In my case -- the condom fell off -- they do that (fall off) you know. No one's fault -- not my fault, not his fault. Every now and then he gets really po'd about having to pay me the $100, but then later apologizes when he thinks about the fact that I had the judge lower his support payments. BTW, he got a vasectomy That's one anectdote. I know a very good friend of mine who pays $2000/month in child support (two kids) to an ex wife who drives a mercedes (remarried). No lie. Perhaps I should tweak my position: why should me have ANY obligation for a child they didn't want or never see.
  14. Well there isn't a link. The best chance you'll find would be the fact that there are some American's teaching at the U of C where Harper went to school. There isn't a real connection though. My goodness. bout time some of these lefties woke up from the trance the Liberals have put them under.
  15. Black Dog: Watch this http://www.cbc.ca/passionateeyesunday/feature_270403.html and educate yourself. Drop your illusions of how you wish things were - ie. everything is America's fault. This documentary gives first hand accounts with hidden cameras of EXACTLY what Al Qaeda wants and is about - and trust me, American foreign policy as very little or NOTHING to do with it.
  16. Start here. Neither do most Muslim terrorists (link)but that doesn't stop you from demanding that all Muslims dance to your tune. Actualy, Steyn, in his usual smarmy way, make sit pretty apparent he doesn't think there are such creatures. He more or less states that moderate Muslims are the creation of media commentators. Don't post BS links about how terrorism is the west's fault. We all know that's a lefty commentator CBC rip job by now. Come up with something a little more credible buddy.
  17. Bang on. Put on a uniform and show your face to your enemy soldiers instead if hiding behind masks and caves...then MAYBE we'll talk about geneva.
  18. Exactly. And it can create a backlash..."why is s/he in that position? are they qualified or is it because of their race?"
  19. Uh huh. And what about the social conditions of religious conservativism that allowed the Taliban to gain popular support and persists today? Or the precedence of tribal loyalty over national identity? Or the fact that the bigest chunk of Afghanistan's economy rests on the heroin trade? And that's just for starters. Hmmm. Maybe this ain't so simple. It's not going to be over next year. Expect responsible western countries to have a military presence in the middle east for the next decade. This will make the cold war look like nothing. We need to keep the pressure on until they get it.
  20. Doesn't take a rocket scientist. The mission is simple. Kick Taliban ass, protect the people from the vicious rule of the Taliban and provide the conditions for peace.
  21. Show me evidence of this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but McVeigh didn't bomb in the name of his Christian god. Seriously. You're way off the point. Steyn's main point is that there ARE moderate muslims but they aquiesce (sp?) to the militants out of fear. Same as the germans in Nazi germany - most were just afraid to speak out.
  22. good on ya, Drea - u'r a credit you mothers and women everywhere
  23. Well thats certainly an interesting hobby you got, I personally like playing hockey and other outdoor sports, but hey whatever floats your boat. My point would be however that when you say Natives have a compasionate culture you are not degrading anyone elses culture, you are not saying natives have a more compasionate culture. -------------- now my opinions on afirmative action, If you can find a group that has been discriminated against in the past, you will generally find that the effects of this continue on generations after the discrimination has ended. Because if you discriminate against hiring women, 30 years down the road, the upper chain of command will be disproportionately a bunch of white old farts, not because they were neccasarily the best candidates, but because the competition was cut short, from an early age by discrimination. In my opinion affirmative action can help get the ball rolling but should only be a temporary measure, until we build a foundation upoun witch to work. In other words affirmative action should not be about getting a black, or a female, or black female CEO, but affirmative action should be used to bring up the number of "minorities" in lower level positions so that they can gain expirence neccasary to advance their career, affirmative action should act as the tool to get them in the door and to keep them inside that door until we have ended the generational lag of discrimination that affects people well after discrimination has ended. Unfortunately for us politicians have a way of screwing up even the most simplistic things, but it is not reverse discrimination but rather an answer to a serious problem, a generational lag of lingering discrimination. To solve this it may very well mean that we have to slow down the promotion of non-minority people within the ranks to ensure that effects of discrimination does not perpetuate itself over and over again generation after generation. Unfortunately with our teams of walking dinosaurs this process has become contencoius because it is delaying an inevitable generational change that should hopefully lead to a better equality in the work place, oh and in the sake of being politicaly correct my apologies to the dinosaurs. Nope. Most businesses are meritocracies. All AA does is spead up an inevitable process for optics. WOmen, minorties et al will naturally move up the ranks over time if their performance merits it.
  24. Totally! I love Canadians - go to war then worry about whats gonna happen to the enemy. That's almost as brilliant as appointing a separatist citizen of france to the highest office in the land.
  25. Hamas' "roadmap to peace": Liquidate the jewish state.
