In my humble opinion they got busted making a ton of cash using their position to push towards companies they had interest in. That is immoral, unethical and may very well be illegal it all depends on how much influence they used. Oh and for the record I have always believed unions to be corrupt so this does not change my opinion at all.

You think the CEO's of the large grocery stores are not dancing with joy? This is a whole new market for them to sell too. Even if the profits are small the foot traffic it will bring in that might buy popcorn,chips,steaks,etc,etc It will be prime space for the snack food companies that will pay big o be in that same aisle. I promise you the plans are already being drawn up on where the beer will go, how it will be secured,etc,etc.

He does have a point. Some parents hire tutors and help with homework while others do not. How do you equal that out?

Wow, what a terribly cruel argument. Survival of the fittest it would seem. Can't argue your logic and I can't say I disagree with your points but the one thing I do have an issue with is the schools in lower income area's are suffering badly and I wonder how many good producers have been tossed aside or overlooked. How much more was spent on keeping these kids in those areas that end up in jail on their incarceration than was spent on their education. It is sad that criminals get more of the money than the students.

Fair enough. Any hope for the Olympics will be crushed by the traffic chaos that is the Pan Am Games. I do not fault anybody for that. GTA traffic is just a plague that is strangling the whole area

If baffles me the mentality of it. Lets build this billion dollar project so we can help ease congestion but still make it cheaper and convenient to take a cab if there is two or more of you. IF you want to get people to use transit there has to be a good side to it. Like the price or hassle. Metrolinx has been the ORNGE of the transit community and the Liberals are still singing their praises.

I could not agree more. But politicians loathe to give up power and our money. Those regulations that have strangled many businesses give the government bureaucrats the power they feel entitled too.

ugh......let it go. We are what we say we are. I have not made it a secret about my opinion with socialist not being a teacher but he does start some great debates. He even has started to make valid counter points. I don't agree with his gestapo like views on some subjects but let him be a teacher. It adds to the fun of this forum.

The excuse for that is the argument that not all students learn the same way. Claiming that standardized testing is not a good way to judge education. I get the argument and would agree everybody learns at a different pace but I feel that certain skills should be obtained by a certain point. As an example at the end of grade 3 be able to read at a certain level, math skills at a certain level,etc,etc........

The ratio of debt vs GDP is the issue right now. Debt is a constant but right now in Ontario alone we are paying 10 billion just in interest. If it was a ministry that would be the third biggest next to health care and education. You might not see it as an issue but every economist on earth would disagree with you. Water is wet but I am sure you disagree with that as well

In theory. Unions are just like a law firm,PR agency or a corporation. It has become a business just like a corporation. They have an agenda and a business plan. You pay them dues and they defend your job. But the big push right now is for more members for more dues. Members have a habit of voting down hikes in the union dues so they have started looking for ways to increase membership. I deal with a union everyday and many times not always but many times I have seen the employees curse the union and not the evil corporation because the union is calling for more hires and less hours for the part timers.

We were discussing the changes being worked on for the Math curriculum for 2016. I shared my views and concerns and she said that changes are coming for the 2016 school year. A few lines is a bit of an understatement but you have left certain factors out before haven't you.....tsk, tsk

Seriously though Chomsky is a brilliant man. This is common knowledge.I just believe his theories always ignore the human greed factor. Greed is not some big evil person. It is a human emotion that is a constant factor in everything. How many public sector strikes have been ended by buying the workers and the unions themselves. You can deny all you want but can anybody post a link where an NDP elected MP or MPP has turn down a raise or perk. It is usually the NDP that are pushing for bigger raises or expense accounts. Greed is constantly ignored when isms are concerned except capitalism which is just more honest about it.
