Are Ontario teachers really going to Strike?
Ash74 replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
But just a few short months ago you were praising Wynne and how we were all going to be living in a social program utopia? Myself and the people from Ontario on this thread told you this was going to happen but you chose to bury your head in the sand. Wynne has decided that infrastructure is more important than anything else right now http://rabble.ca/blogs/bloggers/behind-numbers/2015/04/ontario-budget-2015-throwing-everything-infrastructure-under-b She is getting ready to rake in huge money from a cap and trade scheme, hydro rates are about to go up yet again and the provincial pension I am sure will find its way into the general revenue or perhaps invested in transit. How did you think education would remain untouched? -
My Brother lives outside the country but works for a Canadian firm. When he came home for a visit he had a nice big fat tax bill waiting for him. Than had to pay for an MRI because OHIP would not cover the costs due to him not being in the country for over a year. My thoughts were "Why the hell is he paying taxes than?"

Very true. While Justin is claiming the middle class are either rich or in dire need of the state taking their funds and making sure that we all are equally poor. Can't tell the NDP from the Liberals anymore except the NDP have the courage to admit the country should be a nanny state

Wow. Can't argue with that amazing post. Guess we all should give up now. hernanday just countered everybody's point of view with an unflappable logic. When in doubt. Call somebody a liar and make a racist post. That trumps all -
Liberals selling off 60% of Hydro One
Ash74 replied to Topaz's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The Liberals I have no doubt are resting easy. After all the worst case scenario is the OPP will investigate and we will have all died of old age(or freezing to death because we could not afford to heat our homes) by the time anything is figured out. -

Do you honestly think the Wynne has anybody around that could do this task. We are talking about government and that is worth about two strikes against it. You add the Ontario Liberal factor and there is no chance a school board could be controlled. -
And the HST will create 500,000 jobs, Green energy act will create 250,000 jobs, A jet pack for every Liberal voter........ I wonder how many more investigations will open up from the transit contracts

I have no faith that a government could decide what is fair. When placing taxes they call anybody that makes over $90,000 rich but when paying themselves they cry poor or stress that anything over $100,000 is really not a lot of money (I actually agree but that is the sunshine list thread). Show me a government of any stripe that you would trust too implement such a law. At what point do we start to look after ourselves and not expect government too do it all for us. -

I agree. The issue is if bus drivers are making more than the teachers than I have to say that the bus drivers are being over paid. -

What is more likely there sparky is the union wants arbitration Will get a better deal than bargaining. This is all just huffing and puffing so the next contract talks is even stronger. -

the tactics that The Ontario Government is displaying right now? But Wynne will pull through for you right? Bob Rea Mike Harris Ernie Eves Dalton Mcguinty and now Kathleen Wynne. Three parties and very different people with very very different points of view. Yet they all have had the same battle with the same people...... -

Ash74 replied to Topaz's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Wow. As much as I respect ya I didn't think you would take a side against Wynne. But I really doubt and would be very surprised if the Liberals did the right thing and keep hydro one "under the umbrella" I will admit as much as I am for free enterprise I feel that the ever increasing price of hydro is hurting too many people. Even a right wing nut like me will admit that sometimes a little help is needed. -

Ash74 replied to Topaz's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
They really hate us working folk that have the nerve to complain when we cannot afford the hydro or spending revenues needed for their latest brain child. Right now this is just smoke and mirrors. The Ontario Liberals have a proven track record of breaking promises so I am wondering what this money is really for -

This makes me nervous about the Hydro One sale. Makes me think this is the reason our fearless leader is willing too part with it http://www.torontosun.com/2015/04/19/hydro-one-sale-means-loss-of-ombud-oversight (I do apologize for the source but could not find it anywhere else) I know some of you would throw yourselves under a bus than admit Premier Wynne is not the wonderful soul that the Liberals claim her to be. But with the endless issues with Hydro one billing practices. I now believe that this might be a chance for her to hide an issue that has been giving her a black eye. -

It was the unions that were defending obscene spending on repairs that take away money from the schools. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2013/01/04/province_renews_tdsb_contract_with_expensive_maintenance_and_trades_workers.html And when the school board complained. Wynne ordered them to sign back up with the trade workers. Not for the students but for her own politics. -

Which will all be forgiven if the teachers are given raises. -

Ash74 replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
According to Justin Trudeau I already am part of the 1%. I disagree and am far from rich and do not make as much as a senior teacher. Nor am I any longer a union member. I was a elected union steward 6 times and witnessed first hand the protection of the lazy and the unfair treatment of workers with talent. Not too mention the disregard for the truth when it suited the union. The fight was for more workers not the wages or hours of the members. this is where I saw the business model that was being used for the unions gain. (Least they were not embezzling it. Hello OPPA) The unions are just like any other business. They need good press and paying customers. The teachers are not asking for a smaller class size or complaining because they have too many hours. The complaint is wages and the unions know that they cannot sell this to the public. -

Wynne needs to look strong in this. If She gives in than all the other unions will be lined up looking to cash in. -

This strike has nothing to do with class sizes. It is all about pay. Your argument does not match what the teachers gestapo is preaching -

I wonder what happened to the franchise fee's that The Beer Store was in for? Perhaps the beer monopoly made out alright after all. -

Same place they got the last 30 billion from. Fleecing the tax payers.Likely with the new pension scheme Dwight Duncan was so proud to say that 30 billion was spent on the Ontario power system. The Ontario Liberals have raised taxes over and over again with little to no regard to how it was spent. Maybe they could start paying attention. Or if you would like me to give examples... Cancelled gas plants was a billion that could have gone to upgrading 1.9 billion on smart meters would have been better spent. -
Ontario Liberals introduce cap and trade
Ash74 replied to Argus's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Your right. The Ontario spending spree has left the province in deep debt and the Liberals who at best are not very friendly with the truth do not want to say the word tax and cannot afford not to impose one. Unless they actually started controlling themselves but that is crazy talk. Wynne and her bunch need a new tax and the people of this province have heard the term revenue neutral before with the HST. That and it was going to create 500,000 jobs and everybody was going to have a jet pack. -

Have you seen these 4? They are all clowns. People of talent and ability do not run for office. We are just stuck with the valedictorians of summer school. -

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/federal-liberals-poised-to-make-great-election-gains-in-ontario-poll-finds/article23892369/ Right now the two parties are pretty close in Ontario, The Liberals have a slight lead but after the carbon taxes kick in this should just about make Wynne the Conservatives Best campaign manager. -

Ash74 replied to Argus's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The good news is that there will be a backlash. Just in time for the Federal Election the new carbon tax will be hitting people so the rage vote will keep JT out of the Prime Ministers chair. Harper will likely keep a majority. Ontario as a rule does not like the same parties running the Federal Government and the Provincial one. When all the Harper bashers are crying let u remember this moment
