But this is not the free market. The government signed a contract forcing this on the people of Ontario. They have ignored their own environmental laws to allow wind mills to be built. If this was a private project it would have gone been shut down by the government. http://www.cela.ca/newsevents/fiche-d%E2%80%99information/overview-ontarios-green-energy-act Yes the contracts may have gotten cheaper but we are still selling the surplus at major loss. How is that good business? This "creating a job market" has helped chase more jobs, permanent jobs out of this province than create temporary jobs. The numbers were always as questionable as Hudak's million job plan. http://business.financialpost.com/2011/05/16/ontarios-power-trip-the-failure-of-the-green-energy-act/

The 35 cents/kWh is still 5 times what it costs for gas, nuclear or water. Even at its best it is still a rip off
-
Yeah.....They are going to have a real issue paying that off. Ontario pays almost that much every year in interest alone.

It took some digging but here is an article about saving money using smart meters by changing the time of use. http://www.electricityforum.com/news/apr04/smartmeter.html also http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/ontario-smart-meters-safe-no-firm-answers-yet-province-says-1.2730276 oops wrong one http://news.nationalpost.com/2015/01/14/kelly-mcparland-smart-meters-another-botched-program-on-ontarios-long-list-of-power-boondoggles/ Yes it is an editorial but it does show the facts of the terrible job the Ontario Liberals have done with hydro in this province
-
So your defense of this is "We will have to wait and see" Billions spent including cancelled gas plants on the hope that it will spark an industry while chasing away others. "So it was never meant to replace coal" "Smart meters was never about saving money" "It will create 500,000 jobs" If it was going so well than why did Ontario cut its plan the second it had the chance to? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ontario-cuts-back-on-green-energy-deal/article12718627/ Niagara Falls which is really cheap and clean is the first that gets shut down when we don't need the power. Wind and solar are 11-14.7 cents per kwh water 7 cents How does this benefit the people of this province. This is just another George Smitherman special that we will be paying for the rest of our lives
-
You got me good.....if I was saying we need coal back. I am saying that we the people of Ontario have spent billions on wind turbines and gas plants. These did not replace coal. They just kicked up the nuclear generators. This Green energy has been a mistake from the very beginning and instead of stopping it or holding off on new projects the government is increasing it. http://www.windontario.ca/
-
Yeah......and? They were replaced with gas plants because wind does not produce power when it is needed the most. Hot summer days when it is not windy. Solar does not produce enough to make that much of a difference so gas plants had to be built....and you know..not built
-
Did you read the part where more gas plants have to be built as a back up? Gas plants......... Wind and solar did not replace the coal generators, that would be the gas plants. Oh and Toronto's air is caused by traffic. Not going to be saved by wind farms beside the Gardner

The Liberal Energy plan has been a disaster for Ontario since it started It has done nothing for in environment and has hurt lower income families with the huge price hikes. http://business.financialpost.com/2013/05/01/ontarios-green-disaster/ Older article but it shows the issues
-
Yeah I don't see that coming to Canada. lol It is an interesting theory. Why should the students that apply themselves be handicapped by those that cause disruptions or do not care?
-
I agree. This original statement was much too wide of a category. With so many different kinds of private schools we can not compare a gifted children's school to a school for troubled kids. Even public schools have different issues. Some schools will have a much better chance of going on to university than others because of the areas they live in
-
Than why would Wynne risk a strike and cut teachers benefits and continue with a wage freeze? Why is there a strike vote for the public workers. I mean they are the ones being in strong unions that are the voice of the working man. Why would She run the risk of losing their votes since we have sooooooo much money? Is the 10 billion we spend in interest better spent on that or say health care and education. After those two the interest payments are the provinces biggest expense. Wynne know what she s doing so how come she does not know you can not offer somebody a job so they do not run in an election?
-
He has a valid point. If a higher percentage of graduates go to university than that is a better situation. But that being said I do believe that Private school students do miss out on some valuable life experiences. Both good and bad.
-
Alrighty than Please explain why than the Liberal Government is already fighting with the teachers unions? http://epiphanyday.com/tag/ontario-elementary-teachers-give-union-a-strike-mandate If Ontario has so much money. ( oh by the way nobody in the real world agrees with you on this including the Ontario Government) would Wynne be calling for a wage freeze? Oh and if you truly were a teacher you would know this..........

Teaching tolerance and living with it are two different things. Plus I believe 99% of racism is handed down from parents (can't back that up but I till think I am right) We can teach our kids that everybody is equal but if they are in a situation where everybody is treated equal it is a much better environment.
-
Private schools are going to have less economic differences I would think. Unlikely to see the lack of nutrition that teachers re seeing in the public schools. Less immigrants. Academics maybe better than a public school. Smaller classes means more time spent with the teachers,
-
I do not disagree that a good education is important but the social aspects of it are why we were looking forward to sending our kids to school. To learn how to interact with other kids with different ethnic backgrounds. I can teach my kids to read and write. I can teach them math but I cannot teach them how to get along with other people. I help with homework when it is not that dumb ass estimation crap. Yes the knowledge they are getting is important but just as important is the social skills.

The debt in Ontario is almost $22,000 per man, woman and child. The provinces credit rating has been downgraded to AA- http://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/agency-downgrades-ontarios-credit-rating Since coming to power the Ontario Liberals have almost tripled the long term debt to over 300 billion and this year alone will add 12.5 billion to the debt which is higher than all the other provinces. We spend over 10 billion a year just in interest payments alone. would that money not be better spent on health care, education, infrastructure? The Ontario Liberal have been in power since 2003. Raised taxes by a huge margin and still managed to increase the debt. Increased the cost of hydro for businesses, families across the board including lower income who are really feeling it. The Ontario Liberals were by no why responsible for the economic collapse and Ontario was very hard hit. But how they handled it was the issue I have with them. Companies do not want to pay high taxes, high utilities and deal with a ridicules number of regulations the Ontario Liberals have introduced. And been blaming Mike Harris the entire time.

I was very surprised the Liberals were even in the running in Sudbury. I do not understand how they won with a election fraud investigation going on and the tainted new Liberal MPP. I was completely shocked they would vote him in. Wynne quickly left the building running from reporters to avoid questions.
-
Many of the unions were complaining because they wanted a Liberal minority. I would like to see a poll on the last election how people would have voted if they knew it was going to go as it did. I know many NDP voters that voted Liberal out of fear. They cursed when the majority was gained.
-
The Liberal campaign strategy has been a scare tactic and it has worked well for them. The Ontario Liberals cannot campaign on their past record for it opens the gates to all the scandals and OPP investigations. Hudak said he planed to cut 100,000 jobs and the Liberals and unions jumped on it. Wynne is now cutting and has a public works strike vote going on. Hudak told the truth about the job cuts Wynne did not. Hudak's million job plan campaign was a disaster and as likely as Daltons Job creation plans. I hope the campaign leaders of the last PC provincial election have been shown the door. The Ontario Liberals will use Hudak,Harris and anybody else they can think of to win.

He missed the sighing deadline. Likely on purpose so it could not be spinned to look like he was going to run.
-
Despite what is said we do have a two tier health care system. The super rich go to the U.S. for care. Some because they don't want to wait and some because they have no choice. In a little town outside of Cambridge a lot of people and businesses donated money to send a young girl for a life saving operation that she could not get here and OHIP would not pay for. This is just one example where across Canadian people are running south for health care despite the cost.

Well JT has shown he is in the running for the George W Bush public speaking scholarship. Every time he opens his mouth the Conservatives get a bump in the polls
