  1. The moral stigma will change with every passing generation until it's the norm to have much more free time than work time. To the point when a part time job is considered full time. We can already see this change in the amount of hours worked going from 60 to an average of 40 over the last 100 years. People from the 1800's would presumably consider anyone who worked a 40 hour work week as being lazy. When machines take over more and more mainstream jobs we will begin to need more specialists to mostly run diagnostics and maintenance on these machines. Lower management positions will be done away with and eventually a 20-30 hour work week will be the norm. People will hopefully get paid more, work less and have more free time to do whatever entertains them. With more people working less, it will create more jobs for everyone else. Most places will operate 24/7, 365 to make up for that fact. Which only increases production. Think about it.. automated machines never need a day off, do not need mandatory vacation time, won't call in sick, won't be on maternal or paternal leave, they don't sleep, don't have to use the washroom and don't need breaks or lunch's and best of all you don't have to pay them. They are the perfect worker and as long as capitalism is the prevailing economic driver of the land, corporations will continue to do what is best for the bottom line. Automation will take over, it's just a matter of when at this point. This is my theory anyways, so long as the remaining workers are able to keep wages higher against the corporations, which shouldn't be a problem with the extra money going around, the world will continue to turn.
  2. The machines are taking over. First it was the workplace, now the roads. I wonder how long it will be until the majority of the world becomes automated and how differently society will function. I suppose some may fear this change, I embrace it.
  3. Dubby is also in a contract year. He's making $800,000 this year I suspect if Minny intends on keeping him he's going to be getting a significant raise, especially if they manage to go deep in the playoffs. If he wins a cup, he'll be making $4 mil bare minimum next season.
  4. Just like eyeball said. It should be either one or the other. Automated machines have been proven time and time again to be safer than humans, first in the work place and now on the road as well. Baring an internal system failure there is really no reason to be more afraid of having your car driven for you. Google has already shown through data collected from it's self-driving vehicles that they can maintain better road safety standards than the average human. Even with the possibility of system failure the odds are still stacked against human drivers. I suspect that once we really start seeing the mass scale roll out of affordable electric cars, the next step will be automated driving vehicles. Though it may take some time before we see affordable ones. The auto-industry compared to the technology available moves at an incredibly slow pace, this could have more to do with safety standards than anything else though.
  5. This. ^ I'd rather have two players like Stafford and Frolik than have a single one dimensional player like Kessel on the Jets and at the same cost. It's far better to have 3 lines that can play sound-defensive hockey than 1 line that just scores. It's even better to have one line that scores and can play sound defensive hockey, Kessel cannot provide that, not right now. I'm sure next season Phil will be in a new city and if it happens to be a better team and he still plays the exact same we will be able to lay this discussion to rest.
  6. They don't have to provide the bulk of the defence, but any defence at all would sure help them out. Again cheating the defensive zone will lead to a lot of offensive chances but it opens you up just as much if not more the other way. Playing defence first and being able to play a simple transition game and then setting up in the offensive zone will always win you more games. Easier on your goaltender too. I'm not sure who allows Kessel and JVR to play this way or if they take it upon themselves but they need a defence first coach in Toronto soon, the rest will fall into place.
  7. Most of those teams top lines haven't changed enough to warrant that theory. The problem is they're spending Toews money on a Kessel like player. Which is the whole point of this entire argument that everyone is presenting. He makes far to much money for what he does on the ice. Better late than never. Kessels been doing it for 9. so I guess if he doesn't change the way he plays by next year, by your own standards, we can then criticize his play? Makes sense.... In other words you fully understand it and can't explain why it doesn't make sense. Got it. hahahahaha that's the single dumbest thing anyone has ever said. No the most successful coaches aren't just people who have never played at a higher level Quenneville, Pat Quinn, Sutter, Wilson, Babcock, Trotz, PMo, Vigneault. All great current and former coaches who have all had a playing career of some sort or another. So no the most successful coaches do not tend to be guys who have never played. It's easy to take a handful of coaches at the bottom of the pile who were ex-players without looking at whose on the top. Last season there was 32 players within 2 goals of 30 or higher. Toronto had 2 of these players. If it's all about scoring goals, why then, with two 30 goals scorers was Toronto still a terrible team? And why now with a possible 2 30-goal scorers is Toronto still a terrible team? I'll tell you why, because neither of those 30 goal scorers plays a two-way game, Hell this is damn near the first thing they teach you at 5 years old in learn to play. It should be drilled into his head by now.
  8. Of course the teams have changed, because their star players have its not a hard concept to understand. Of course their better, their star players now play more than one zone. No that's incredibly wrong. Most of the teams that have won cups in the last ten years build around two-way forwards: Toews, Kopitar, Getzlaf, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Staal, Crosby and Bergeron and this year Ovechkin. Its how you win, building around players like Kessel is how you win high draft picks. He might not get paid to do it, but he does it anyways. That's the difference. I don't know whats so hard to understand about that sentence? Arm chair athelete= someone who thinks they know everything about a sport but have very little experience actually playing it at a competitive level.
  9. Yea but the difference is all of them have changed the way they play their games and are still scoring while playing responsibly and their teams are all doing better because of it. Being a 3-zone player is always going to trump being a one-dimensional player like Kessel and until he changes, he's going to be a liability while he's on the ice. Salaries don't matter for some teams like Toronto and even Washington for that matter but for the bottom 16 revenue teams in the league, salaries matter. so basically for an extra $1.5 million I can get a player who can score goals, hit and play 3-zone hockey compared to someone who can only score goals and not even near as many? Sign me up, I'll take 2. Kessel is overrated, he can stay in Toronto. Guess all your experience being an armchair athlete hasn't proved you know jack about hockey.
  10. Kessel is another player that I would not want on my team. He's a goal scorer nothing more and for $10 mil a season I'd much rather have a competent two-way goal scorer like Rick Nash or Corey Perry who will end up costing less money and being more effective. Or an Ovechkin who also costs $10 mil a season and is shaping up to be a good two-way goal scorer this season. Guys like Kessel cheat the defensive zone and open up the ice for your opponents. He's a liability and until he decides he wants to play a two-way game I'd rather not have him. When he scores one goal for every two that are scored while he's on the ice, he is not very effective.
  11. Well I can guarantee that I've played at a higher level than you have, so more of an expert than yourself. Trust me the locker room doesn't change much over the years, just the players that are in it and their age. It's a hierarchy and when you think you're above that hierarchy you won't make many friends. There's no reason experience should not equal maturity? That's your problem right there, you're an enabler. Fans that absolutely love Buff. So again the race card does not work here, nice try though. Obviously not all 22 members of the roster threw his track suit in the shower. It was one player. So punishing the other 21 players by not showing up is disrespectful. You'd make a great coach. "Hey guys I don't care if you get along, just score me some goals." hahaha you'd be a perennial first overall drafter though so I guess there's that, ask Edmonton how that's worked out for them.
  12. I have a Provincial Championship ring for High School football as a Wide Receiver. I won a Provincial and National Championship on the way to the Little League World Series in Taylor, Michigan where we did not win a championship. I continued to play Midget AAA baseball into my late teens and early 20's where I won two Provincial championships. Though in my later years we were downgraded to a Midget AA team as the city I'm from suffered a dip in baseball players so we could only make one team. I played hockey up to the Bantam level where I was drafted in the later rounds of the WHL entry draft by the Red Deer Rebels but after a short 4 game stint I was never called back. (I wasn't that good) Aside from that I don't want to give up to much of my personal identity based on where and when I played. haha well good luck with that theory. We'll see how it works for Kane and Buffalo. These 2 things SHOULD go hand in hand, they haven't with Kane. Which is the point all of us have been trying to make to you. Kane punishment will be being traded from a playoff team to a bottom of the barrel team that will have to wait until the rest of it's core matures enough to make the playoffs. That could be anywhere from 2-5 years down the road. Hard to say how Kane will play when he gets back from his surgery. Kane couldn't find chemistry with any other player, I don't have much faith in his lone wolf style of play changing with anyone else. haha yeah he's the target of another black player. Nice try with the race card there. Don't make excuses for the boy. The only blame was on himself. If he going to whine because he has a wet track suit and then not show up for a game because of it. That shows lack of respect for the rest if the players not involved in the incident. If someone throws your clothes in the shower you have it out with them, you don't take it out on the entire team. He's a cry baby and buffalo will see that mentality the moment he hits the ice.
  13. As far as recent Stanley Cup winners they typically have 4 things in common. A top line that can play a good two-way game and enough depth to have some 4th line heroes, an elite defencemen that can play ridiculous minutes and an elite goaltender that can stand on their head. The Kings, Hawks and Red Wings have this in spades in recent years. As far as the west goes I think; Nashville: Nashville has an incredibly deep team and possibly one of the best defensive cores in the league, coupled with a goaltender that can steal a game on any given night. They are a force. They aren't an overly physical team though so the playoffs may prove to be to much for them. It's hard to say weather or not their speed and skill can overcome some of the more physical teams they may face on their way to the finals. St. Louis: St.Louis is fast and physical team. They also have some of the best scoring depth in the entire league with numerous guys that can finish. Elliot and Allen are a good tandem but it's tough to say weather they are deep playoffs calibre goaltenders yet. Chicago: Chicago stands just as good a chance as ever to win another cup, though with Kane not coming back to later rounds everyone will have to step up a little more, they definitely still have the brass to get it done and added some depth at the deadline. They are all in this year. Anaheim: Anaheim has added some depth in their roster and have two good goalies that are now healthy to really give them a strong playoff push, what they lack in physicality they make up for in speed and scoring. I can safely say that a team like Winnipeg could easily wear them down in a playoff series but with their better scoring and goaltending it's a tough call. Vancouver: Vancity is a hard call at this point. They won't have Miller back until the playoff begins, I believe. It all depends on whether Lack and Markstrom can play well enough to keep them where they are. They have a lot of playoff veterans that know how to win a series coupled with a lot of young guys who can play good hockey. It's hard to say whether this could be a cinderella story so to speak. Calgary: I wouldn't count out Calgary just yet, not until we see a few games without Giordano. They are still going to be one of the best 3rd period scoring teams in the league. The loss of Gio who is a huge presence on the blueline and a major contributor to their goal scoring ability could have devastating effects. But they can still get it done offensively so I'm not sure where they stand. It may still be a dogfight between them and LA for the last spot in the pacific. Winnipeg: The Jets have an incredibly physical team, one that is built to play fast and aggressive playoff hockey but their bottom 6 scoring is lacking and they're goaltending is incredibly unpredictable. Hutchinson has played great but I seriously doubt his ability to stick out a 7 game series at this point and Pavelec is one of the worst goaltenders at the NHL level in my opinion. They added a bit of depth though but we'll have to see how they fair over the next couple of games. Minnesota: Minny is very deep team that has been on a tear lately and with Dubnyk playing like a boss they could continue that tear well into the playoffs. It's hard to say whether Dubnyk will come back down to earth or remain in orbit but he's been pretty lights out since being traded to the Wild and after their deadline moves they actually scare me a lot. Glad Winnipeg won't be facing them in the 1st round this year. LA: These guys actually look like they are tired. Though they are famous for turning it on when it matters. I really don't know what to say about the Kings this year. They lack heart, which could end up costing them a trip to the playoffs at all. San Jose: I don't think SJ has the ability to get into the playoffs this year. I am counting them out at this point. I don't know much about the East except that Montreal kind of reminds me of Nashville with their depth and incredible goaltending. Washington is looking like a crazy good team this year too and Detroit has just as much a shot as any other year they make the playoffs. I'm really hoping Boston gets taken out of their WC spot by Florida. I despise Boston. If I had to call it right now I'd say it's going to be a Nashville vs. Montreal SC final.
  14. I have a few rings from championships in a few sports. None as prestigious as a Super Bowl, World Series or Stanley Cup. But I have won championships and I know what it takes to do so. It takes a team that can work together. No, you just proved my point. Individuals don't win championships. Team players that respect one another win championships. True but they both go hand in hand to make an experienced player. Which is why Evander Kane is not the type of player 18, 19, 20 year olds should be looking up to in a locker room. He will be 24 by the time he suits up in Buffalo and will more than likely be considered a team leader whether we wears a letter or not. He may spoil a few young players over there as well with his attitude if they don't correct him before its to late. haha no. There is no fallacy here. This is exactly what happened ergo he wouldn't have not shown up to the game in Vancouver like a little baby ergo they wouldn't have traded him. I've presented the evidence a few pages ago in this thread that detailed Kane's attitudes along with things he said and did while in Winnipeg to the press, to team mates and fans. You're grasping at straws on that one bud.
  15. That's laughable I know many teachers who couldn't give a crap in this country. Why is it then that U.K students rank higher on the U.N. education Index over Canada's students? You are failing our children and you work harder and are more dedicated? Somethings not right. Work smarter not harder that's what I always say. You should obviously stop trying so hard, you may get better results.
  16. Well you must not have won many championships with that attitude. Again I honestly don't think you've ever played competitive sports, and I don't mean your weekend softball league. Watching and playing are two different things. It's blatantly obvious you are a spectator. Yes it is. When you're building or playing on a team you'd know, To the common fan, then yes, they want the Phil Kessel's. Me I'll take an Andrew Ladd any day. They'll take an Evander Kane, I'll take a Drew Stafford. We will see who wins more championships or comes closer to it. Experience in professional sports is not measured in age, it's measured in games played. And we will remain so. I'm sure a time will come soon enough when Buffalo will tire of Kane too. Yes, the players do and they were sick of his bullshit as evident by the events that transpired. He can rot in Buffalo now, while we take a shot at the playoffs.
  17. And what makes teaching harder in Canada?
  18. It's obvious by that statement you haven't played many competative team sports. When I played hockey and football, we had team rules for example dressing up for game days. Anyone that didn't had to suffer the consequences which was often ridicule from your teammates and having to do a little extra around the locker room and during practice. It showed that you respect your team mates. When you act like a baby after that ridicule, it was certain you would be sitting out for a game. If you didn't show up for a game after, it was certain you didn't have a spot on the team anymore. When you don't care about simple team rules, it means you don't care about your team. Based on Kanes statements about playing for the Jets that had been fairly evident already. So he should go. Should it? Do you want a guy who never shows up to practice, has an over inflated ego, doesn't care about his team mates and couldn't give a crap about the organization but plays great. Or would you want someone who is mediocre but brings a lot more to team chemistry, the locker room and teams image? I bet you the latter wins you more Championships. He's 23 years old with 6 years of NHL experience. You don't think younger players looked up to other players of Kane's calibre or higher calibre players like Toews, Ovi, or Crosby at 23? It's not when you consider we were the Atlanta Thrashers over 4 seasons ago and they were the Buffalo Sabres that made the playoffs. We are making better decisions. The trading of Kane will be is one of them.
  19. Why would Canadians seek abortions in the US?
  20. If newbies want to learn what antisemitism is there are pages upon pages in numerous threads that have discussed that very topic. Don't give them the benefit of beating a dead horse for their own amusement. It's not worth it.
  21. Far different era. We are dealing with athletes that make guys from that era look like they were pulled out of a beer league today.
  22. Yes important rules like wearing a suit to a team meeting. Not a practice. If a player doesn't give a crap about that, what will they give a crap about? These people are professional athletes that are expected to do what is asked of them. If they fail to do a simple task then they are a poison. Kane is a player younger guys look up to, when they see someone act like they are to good for team rules they may have that mentality. We don't want that in Winnipeg. Buffalo can have him and his ego. We'll see who has the better season next year.
