Have you seen the news recently? I just watched an interview on BBC with a palestinian woman who said she'd "sacrifice her only son, her 5 daughters and herself for the resistance".

Union and Government jobs move a person up the seniority ladder in cases like maternity and WCB claims, but private employers don't (and shouldn't) have to guarantee anything other than your returning to your prior job posting and status. Therefore, when promotions and/or raises come around, a recently returning mother should not have any expectations, and shouldn't consider this discrimination in any way. P.S - If a man takes parental leave...same thing, so maybe that becomes a conversation about whose career is gonna be affected less when the baby arrives. Section 54 provides that an employer cannot terminate an employee or change a condition of employment without the employee's written consent as a result of a leave under this Part.

"It's a social problem that's worth contemplating and raising awareness about." If you think there's a problem, what should be done to rectify it?

Beer and Wine in the corner store? Yes or No
Hal 9000 replied to John Charlton's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
If you're really worried about the times that you can purchase alcohol, maybe you should be asking yourself some hard questions about where your life is heading. If you're that committed to drinking , have a case of two in the shed or closet. What a stupid issue -
So, who's to blame? And...What should we do about it?

BC Teachers Getting Screwed...Again
Hal 9000 replied to socialist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I just can't be offended by the gov giving us $40 per day, it shows that they really care about the young families. Those who are offended (like Jill Adamovich) should sign their cheques over to the first teacher they see in a show of support. -
He didn't prove anything, in fact it's an embarrassing article from some student who is trying to compare apples to oranges and clearly cherry picking careers. Mighty really shoulda read that article before posting something so shamelessly bias.

My favourite part of that article is where it suggests that men are oppressing women by keeping them in women roles such as teaching, nursing and social work. A nurse will work 4 days per week and make 100k A teacher will work 9months a year, get prime holidays and full pension for 75-80K A social worker (depending on their specialty) will make 70-100k. Foster parents (don't apply if your a man) can make 2-4k per month per child - no taxes. My sister had 6 foster kids for years and she's loaded. Foster work is all non taxable money BTW. Oh, the humanity! P.S - Nurses and Teachers are doing their best to keep men away from those jobs, and the social work world doesn't want men either - we're all pervs y'know.

That's actually pretty good!

That's a US Chart. We are in Canada are we not? However, there are a lot of factors than can skew the numbers 4 or 5%, such as the amount of people in those occupations. In fact, there are many factors not taken into consideration in that article.

Where? Find me a job where women and men do the same job and women (as a rule) get paid less. You wanna talk about 'ism's, ageism is way more prevalent than sexism.

Yes! As a start! If Israel agrees to anything, they have to know that the Palestinians aren't just gearing up for a bigger war. Jacee wants to give Hamas everything on their list with just a promise in return - laughable! I know, how about whenever anyone anywhere wants something, they merely lob some missiles at Israel and give a list of demands. If it works for Hamas, maybe Hezbollah and Isis can have a go to.
-
That's assinine! Maybe they weren't discovered because maybe Israel isn't watching them as closely as you all seem to believe. That would be the common sense reason.
-
You kinda make it sound like the primary purpose of the tunnels was for supplies and Hamas just sorta thought....Hey, we can use these for military purposes too! But, your not that naive...are you?
-
Admit they're all for military purposes - admit it!
-
I'll give you a mulligan on that statement.
-
Well duh! These Hamas guys care so much for the Palestinians that they've built at least 30 tunnels and fortified them with concrete and power so that they can risk their lives getting food and medicine. No chance they're using the tunnels to move weapons and missiles - no chance at all.
-
There will always be some opposition for every side. I'm sure there are Paletinians who disagree with Hamas (Do you have excerpts from them?). Nobody expected 100% support, but Im sure Netanyahu with his 80% approval rating (from Israelis) doesn't worry too much about a couple US jewish detractors.

Beer and Wine in the corner store? Yes or No
Hal 9000 replied to John Charlton's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I don't really think we need it. It's the slippery slope that I don't like. First we had beer and wine attached to a pub, then it's stretched to open sunday, then it becomes hard liquor, then we suddenly don't need it to be attached to pub etc etc - now we'll go to corner stores and gas stations, stretch that into 24hrs on and on. Oh yeah, I forgot department stores -
And what are Hamas prepared to give in return for their demands?
-
Well, I do know they're gonna need more concrete.
-
I don't know how you can keep posting this. Every single point was designed to better prepare Hamas for a bigger and better war 3-5 years down the road - you really can't see that? Really? There was nothing in there about peace, trade, economics, communication, disarmament (from Hamas), freedom of religion.
-
OK, so what is their plan now then? How do they win this? You've already alluded to it in an earlier post.
-
Why do they have to smuggle fuel, construction material, medicine or food (not that they are actually smuggling food or medicine). No, they are for smuggling terrorists, weapons and attacking Israelis.
