Should Women/Men Pay Different Rates for the CPP?

No, in fact the frustrating part is that I'm not sure you ever even understood the initial point of the topic. -

"Look, I've got no issue with women using the medical system more, they do have "girly" issues." "Women use the medical system 3 times that of men, I have never said that's bad or wrong or abusive!" Dude, I think you're fighting the wrong person...or the wrong issue. -

Should Women/Men Pay Different Rates for the CPP?

Yes, and people go to the hospital to have haemorrhoids lanced too...I'm not about to spew off a silly cliche over it. Women use the medical system 3 times that of men, I have never said that's bad or wrong or abusive! But c'mon, birthing is a drop in the bucket...if that. -

I agree! I didn't bring it up, Shady did and OGFT resurrected the sentiment. BTW - If we are gonna discuss the abuse of our medical system, it starts with the doctors themselves. -

Look, I've got no issue with women using the medical system more, they do have "girly" issues. But, the whole "women bear the next generation" rhetoric is a little silly. P.S - With that said, women do seem to take in their kids to the doctor way too often. -

In all honesty, Ive never even given this topic one ounce of thought until I read this thread. And, I know rates will never be more for women - no matter what. I have no dog in the fight, I'm sort of being devils advocate here but I think it's a topic worth giving some real thought to. -
Should Women/Men Pay Different Rates for the CPP?
Hal 9000 replied to August1991's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
As I said, find me a situation...any situation where a woman working side by side with a man doing the same job get's paid 70% of the man and I'll boycott and protest that company with you. Look, I always put you a step above the other feminists (cyber, jacee, Bc chick etc), but if you can't see the intended manipulation in that article, maybe i'm wrong about you. -

Claims adjusters, appraisers, examiners, and investigators - Women’s earnings as percentage of men’s: 69.3% Are we talking about private or gov't because I know it doesn't work that way in ICBC, Rev Canada, Access centres or WCB? If anyone gets paid more than anyone else it's strictly based on job title. Inspectors, testers, sorters, samplers and weighers - Women’s earnings as percentage of men’s: 69.2% This is a favourite of mine! Is this site really comparing a worker making 15$ hr. checking the integrity of underwear and plastic drink bottles with someone who is in IT checking software? This is clearly a "pump up" (or down) the stats. How about we compare textile inspectors with textile inspectors and IT people with IT people? We all know IT people are generally men and IT people generally (obviously) make more than textile inspectors - apples and oranges. Security, commodities, and financial services sales agents Women’s earnings as percentage of men’s: 69.1% "This field spans a variety of occupations, from sales agents who sell credit cards and banking products to investment bankers who guide companies through the issuance of stocks or bonds." Here it is again, people who sell credit cards Vs. Investment bankers, really? So, we're Ok lumping the teenage girl who gives me steak knives for getting a Canadian Tire CC with bank managers - this doesn't even pass the giggle test! Even if we compare investment bankers with investment bankers, there is still a certain amount of commissions and performance bonuses that are equally attainable by both men and women. Marketing and sales managers Again, 2 different jobs. Sales managers I would say are usually men and work either partially or fully commissioned, while marketing managers are generally salaried or contractor/BFS. Women’s earnings as percentage of men’s: 67.7% Physicians and surgeons Women’s earnings as percentage of men’s: 67.6% What is it, Physicians or Surgeons? Physicians make what they make from the gov't and everything after that is based on their clientele/patients and what their practice can support. Surgeons make the biggest money - and guess what? Most surgeons are men - likely 75-80%. This is why this article groups physicians and surgeons together - more stat manipulation. Let's try to compare equal jobs...please. Education administrators Women’s earnings as percentage of men’s: 67.2% Education administrators work at all levels of education, from preschool to postsecondary. OK, I know that school administrators in BC make roughly the same amount (within 5%). But, lets toss pre-school (day care) in for extra effect - right! We're comparing a high school principle with a day care "administrator"! WoW! My wife was a day-care/per-school administrator - hundreds...maybe thousands of people are - and there is no money in it for most people. Go tell a school administrator or even teacher that pre-school administrators should be paid the same as them and see what happens. Personal financial advisers Women’s earnings as percentage of men’s: 66.3% Again, commission and self employed - no male conspiracy here. Real-estate brokers and sales agents Women’s earnings as percentage of men’s: 66.0% I thought this was also commission based, but if you find out that a man and a woman each sold a house for the same value and the woman only got 65-70% of what the man got, I'll stand shoulder to shoulder with you in protest. Retail salespersons Women’s earnings as percentage of men’s: 64.3% Retail salespeople can work in a variety of different settings, from clothing stores to auto parts shops. Another of my favourites! We are again comparing someone who works at the Gap with a person who has had to take courses to learn about the auto parts and industrial equipment they are selling. As a topper, they throw in commission based auto sales. If a Gap employee ever makes what a car salesman makes, I'm applying at the Gap. Insurance agents Women’s earnings as percentage of men’s: 62.5% More of the same...commision, clientele, BFS. This whole article is meant to generate feminist hysteria, and it seems to work. All I find is that when people are made to actually earn their money, by commission or providing services, men are better at it. The rest is simply comparing a list of jobs that should never be spoken in the same sentence as the others. Here's an example; Men who work in hospitals make less than 70% of what the women do. -

Your claim is based on those who actually make it to 65 years of life, how about the people that pay into CPP and die before ever collecting a penny? -

Look, when I personally hear Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and all the other Dems in congress mock and belittle every single republican who warns them against lending practices of FMae and FMac, and then insist to the repubs that there is nothing wrong with the system, then yeah, I'll believe what I've seen. It's not perspective, it's directly from C-span - unedited and in all their own words.

If I get 1000$ per month and live 9 years, I'll collect 108,000$ from CPP If a woman get's 70% of a man, and collects $700 per month and lives for 16 years after retirement, she'll collect $135,000 from CPP If that woman makes the same income as me, she'll collect $192,000 from CPP P.S - ...and what about survivors pension that'll you'll collect after i'm long buried? -
Should Women/Men Pay Different Rates for the CPP?
Hal 9000 replied to August1991's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Clearly! Look even if my monthly CPP cheque is 40% more than yours, you'll still collect more than me by time we're both dead. If I work for 40 years paying what I pay and collect what I'll collect, and you work 40 years making 71% of what I make, you'll get more than me both money wise and by percentage of money paid into system - simply by outliving me by 5 or 6 years. Now, If you work at the same job as me, you'll obviously make exactly what I make and pay exactly what I pay and in the end you'll easily collect double from the CPP system as I will. -

...and longer life expectancy = larger claim on CPP. We're not talking about monthly payments here, we're talking about the total amount of draw from the pension fund. -

...and your claiming I'm making hypotheticals and straw men? WoW! We all have to deal with and pay according to what we earn, you should use your 71% argument elsewhere. If any woman makes only 71% of men, that's completely on her. -

Canada.com - On average, women in Canada have a life expectancy at birth of 81 years, while men have a life expectancy at birth of 75 years. Stats Canada - 1960 to 1962 68 74 1970 to 1972 69 76 1980 to 1982 72 79 1990 to 1992 75 81 2000 to 2002 77 82 Huffington Post - Women are also living longer than men in the Great White North. Males born in 2012 have a life expectancy of 80 years, while for females it's 84 years. According to stats Canada, Those men born in the early 70's will get just 4 years of benefits which is just 36% of the 11 expected golden years that women will enjoy. Even percentage wise, those born today will be closer together, but men will still get only 75% of years that a woman gets after retirement. -

You used a chart showing a projection of what % of people (of either sex) will live to what age. I posted the average life expectancy because I believe it's a more relevant way of establishing how much CPP will likely be paid out to each sex. I'm not ignoring it, I just don't think it tells the complete story. Even if it did, women still live and collect pensions longer than men. I challenge anyone to check out a nursing home and tell me there's as many men as there are women. -
Should Women/Men Pay Different Rates for the CPP?
Hal 9000 replied to August1991's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Oh my, I didn't think I'd have to explain the math but...If a man lives to 74 (which they currently do), that gives him 9 years (after 65) to collect CPP. If a woman lives to 81 (which they currently do) , that gives her 16 years to collect CPP. That means that a man only lives 56% as long as a woman after retirement age of 65. -

Hal 9000 replied to August1991's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Of course were talking about life expectancy. If we both start collecting CPP at 65 (assuming the monthly amounts are equal), you will collect twice as much as me by time we're both dead. -
Should Women/Men Pay Different Rates for the CPP?
Hal 9000 replied to August1991's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
CBC News - In Canada, average life expectancy for males born in 2012 is 80 and for females 84, the agency said in Thursday’s report, World Health Statistics 2014. In comparison, males born in Canada in 1990 could expect to live to 74 and females to 81 on average. According to this, females will on average live nearly 50% more longer men, therefore will actually collect significantly more pension money than men. Now, as the argument goes, if companies like ICBC charge more for men because they collect more than women in auto claims, then maybe it's not so crazy to consider that women should pay a higher premium than men for CPP. Like I said though, the issue will never ever be even suggested by any politician.
