  1. I dont mint trolls who want to add to a topic - even when it's an agitation. Agitating brings out deeper thought, brings people out of their comfort area and forces them to explore a deeper side of themselves. Drive by trolls are quite annoying and frankly...desperate.
  2. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Who knows. And...for the record, I'm not even saying he's right or wrong - simply that his point comes from a certain amount of experience and he should be heard. But that's just me, I listen to what people say whether i agree or not because there is value and learning experiences to be had. What this board is missing is the ability to listen and ask why someone believes what they believe. Everything we talk about requires a "cite", we can't speak as people normally do.
  3. Mail online: The revered scientist told the BBC: 'I have fallen in love with people in the lab and people in the lab have fallen in love with me and it's very disruptive to the science because it's terribly important that in a lab people are on a level playing field. 'It's terribly important that you can criticise people's ideas without criticising them and if they burst into tears, it means that you tend to hold back from getting at the absolute truth. 'Science is about nothing but getting at the truth and anything that gets in the way of that diminishes, in my experience, the science.' He added: 'What was intended as a light-hearted, ironic comment apparently was interpreted deadly seriously by my audience. 'I'm really, really sorry I caused any offence, that's awful. I just meant to be honest, actually.' Sir Tim, a Cambridge graduate, became a fellow of the Royal Society in 1991. Ten years later he was awarded the Nobel prize for physiology or medicine alongside Lee Hartwell and Paul Nurse for their discoveries of 'key regulators of the cell cycle'. You people can hate him all you want - drive him out of a job, but there is certain validity or at reasons why he has come to his opinions.
  4. it is weird, but then again you did set a certain standard with that whole "slavery" thingy. So....
  5. Should I compare myself to the blacks in southern USA back in the sixties every time I pass a women only gym? No, it's shameful and ignorant to even suggest that.
  6. My bad! I imagine that blacks would still be somewhat offended by the comparison. It does show a certain amount of ignorance on your part.
  7. You're talking about reserves that are basically on the outskirts of Victoria, Nanaimo, Duncan, Campbell River etc etc. Sure if you build a shopping centre featuring Walmart, Canadian tire, superstore, shell, a bank, starbucks - the people will come. These aren't FN success stories, this is FN's selling (or leasing) land to white corporations who in turn do everything from preparing ground to cutting the grand opening banners. The FN's do nothing but sign off on it. Now, what about the other 95% of reserves that don't shoulder on a major centre. Oh yeah, and all those stupid little rules and regulations the white people want are environmental concerns (Bird sanctuaries, wetlands, rivers etc.), but why should that get in the way of FN's selling land to Walmart.
  8. This dude has been in labs for what 70 years and it's his opinion that emotions in the lab compromises the science. But, you didn't catch any of that. Ever think of asking him to explain his thoughts? No, you don't care. The dynamics of a men only and co-ed crew is drastic. BTW - Do you have any idea how offensive it is to compare this incident to the stoning of women or black slavery - as Kimmey did. For heavens sakes, have some perspective. You women will cheer on sick fucks like sharon osbourne and the rest of "the Talk" or "the view" as they laugh uncontrollably about a guy getting his dick chopped off, but god forbid a nobel prize scientist states that women are too emotional in the lab. Where's osbourne's resignation?
  9. The FN people stay on the reserves because they're given money to do so. They are manipulated by their own bands and chiefs to stay. If they all decided to leave the reserve, the band/chiefs would get no money, and the FN's people would have to work. It's a sick cycle. The white man isn't holding them back, their own people are.
  10. He was clearly making a comment on his own relationship with his wife - also a scientist and co-worker. It was actually a self-deprecating joke. He did state that science needs to have total impartiality and that's hard to do when relationships get in the way. That's all, it was no big deal! He's resigned anyway, so...another win for censorship.
  11. C'mon, you really think it's a no brainer? That's as naive as saying world peace is a no brainer or global warming.
  12. What would you, Jacee and the rest do if Stephen Harper or Christy Clark announced they were sending in someone to manage the FN reserves and their money?
  13. I'd love to change the world But I don't know what to do So I'll leave it up to you by Alvin Lee
  14. Well, it sounds like you have some ideas; lets hear'm.
  15. What's happening right now is closer to genocide. You're obviously an idealist, but i don't think you've been to a reserve before - or seen the effects of what that environment does to children generation after generation.
  16. They don't want white men interfering, they want the money and in turn say they'll take care of whatever issue. We can't hold them accountable, once we do, we have people like you and Jacee calling us racists. I remember a story a couple years back (no cite) about a reserve that refused to let the white man build a clean water resevoir on their reserve, we gave them $6mill to handle the problem themselves. A year later the TV cameras went back to the reserve and found one FN dude pouring bleach into the water reserves, nothing fixed and no money left or accounted for. Oh yeah, the creek was filled with empty bleach bottles.
  17. That's actually a really good point. You don't see any FN culture in the remote reserves, you only see it in bigger communities.
  18. Usually, you and I disagree on social issues - but that is just differing perspectives. In this case, you couldn't be more wrong, embarrassingly naive even.
  19. Except Dre couldn't be more wrong. It would likely take me 3 guesses to figure out the "success story" he's talking about, but either way you have to know that other than maybe 4-5 families that capitalized from "selling" out to corporations, the rest of the First Nations in that community are just as poor as they were 5, 10, 20 or 50 years ago. Besides, he's talking about a reserve in a community of 35-40,000+ people (mostly anglos). Much different than reserves in Klemtu, Kyouquot, Kitamaat etc.
  20. You obviously don't know the context behind what or why he made those comments.
  21. Reserves are a cesspool of dysfunction and abuse. Spousal abuse, child abuse, drug abuse, sexual abuse, alcoholism, FAS, incest, poverty, animal abuse, abuse of gov't (taxpayers) money, single (teenage) pregnancy, poor education, theft, health issues...good grief, you name it. The idea of keeping people on the outside of society is doing nothing except hurting them. Close the reserves and bring them into modern day society.
  22. How many times are you gonna try and bait me with this? Look, I see your posts and (like most others here) couldn't give a shit what you say or think.
  23. Oh, I guess I shoulda known! I usually need WCR to show up and tell us how shitty men are before knowing for sure.
  24. I do, I just don't know why we care!
